California Grill for Special Occasion

Hi!

This is my first trip to WDW - my husband has been several times as a child. We're planning one night out for our anniversary and are leaving the kids with a sitter!

The Unofficial Guide rated the Ca Grill well - does anyone with actual real life experience agree or not?

Like to hear either way.

oh yes! it is fabulous. i celebrated my b-day there in december and we received a wonderful piece of chocolate cake. the service is some of the best and the food is among some of the best onproperty. be sure to mention you all are celebrating your annivesary and request a window table on the MK side of the restaurant. you will not be disappointed. happy anniversary!!

Stephanie - my only hesitation is that the California Grill is one of the louder full-service restaurants. I.e., it's nothing like a character buffet with lots of excited kids and grownups, but it's not a quiet, romantic type place either. Having said that, the food is AWESOME, service has been outstanding on my two trips, and the view is gorgeous. So as long as a bit of a din doesn't bother you, go for it!

Places I've been with good food and service (IMO) without the noise issue are Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge), Citrico's (Grand Floridian), and Palio (Swan or Dolphin - I always forget ). Then there's Victoria & Alberts, IMHO the ultimate "special occasion" restaurant on property, if your budget can take the rather sizeable dent!

We loved California Grill. We loved the food, service was great, and you can't beat the view...and we were not even there for the fireworks @ MK. We will be dinning there again in March and can't wait.

We have learned that the Unofficial Guide dosn't really like any meal you can get at WDW. It has lots of great info, but trashses just about every place to eat. We live in Chicago (really "in Chicago" not the 'burbs) and we dine out a ton(too much) and we really enjoy good meals.

On that note, I would say Califoria Grill is a must for us. We didn't get to go last trip, and really missed it.

We held our rehearsal dinner (we were married at Disney, obviously) at Ca Grill, had our 1st anniversary dinner there, and have PS's for our second anniversary dinner there this Saturday. I adore Ca Grill - the food is phenomenal, we have always had excellent service, and the wine selection is fabulous. It is a little loud, but that's a small price to pay. There is nothing like being at CG during the MK fireworks - they dim the lights and pipe in the music - you will have a front-row seat.

A little OT - We had our wedding reception in the private room at Victoria and Albert's - the food was amazing, but the maitre d' made a very rude comment to me (he told me [the bride... in veil, gown, and all] that we had better be sure to be out of the room at the scheduled time, as it was Super Bowl Sunday - um, WHAT???? - and they were booked solid), and our waitress was exceptionally rude to 2 of our guests. When I wrote them a lengthy letter explaining what had happened and how unhappy we were that these things happened at our wedding dinner, we got no response. We vowed never to go back. Due to the wonderful treatment we've always had at Ca Grill, we haven't missed V & A's at all.

Outstanding restaurant! This is my must-eat-at-every-trip restaurant

It is loud. However, short of Vic and Al's I don't think there is a quiet restaurant on property! And the food more than makes up for it! *Not to mention the fireworks......and I've never been a big fan or all that impressed by fireworks!*

When you make your PS , ask for a table in the wine room. It is in the back, totally enclosed, QUIET, and there are only about 5-8 tables in there.
