What would be the proper dress for a early dinner at The California Grill at the Contemporary Resort? The CM I spoke with suggested "khaki shorts and a polo/golf shirt for the gentlemen and khaki shorts/capris and a blouse for the ladies." Opinions, please!

I have dined here several times and found "business casual" to be anything from dressy clothes to just coming in from the parks in tee shirt and shorts. DH always wears a collared shirt. Last week it was so hot that he wore khaki shorts and sandals. In the winter he wore khaki pants and a shirt and tied with loafers. I wore capri pants and a nice shirt with sandals last week. In the winter I wore a comfy skirt and top with comfy shoes. The whole thing is, they aren't going to turn away business, so I guess that's why you see jeans and tee shirts on some people. It is a lovely place and the food is to die for!

Casual is fine. When I called, they just said "no tank tops". My daughter wore one with a skirt and she was fine. Comfortable works too! Enjoy it - it was great.

We dine here a lot....we had the pleasure of dining here in May.....we sat at the bar for a drink while waiting for our table and the woman next to me had on a swimsuit with a tshirt, soccer shorts and FLOPS on - her companoin was dressed better.....once we were seated the couple next to us - the guy had on a tshirt, shorts and flops....I did ask the waiter about the dress code and we got into an interesting conversation about what has happened lately at CG....I'll address it in my TR don't want to leave it out here...but pretty much there has been a definite decline in attire.

lynninpa: I'd suggest tho that you that you attempt to dress as the CM suggested. While it's all too clear that the dress code is rarely enforced, you just might run into a maverick manager /podium greeter who decides YOU are they one they'll pounce on if not dressed "business casual".

I was pretty disappointed with the other diners! We didn't dress UP up, but the girls had on fancy dresses, DH wore dress slacks and a button down shirt (no tie), and I wore dressy capris with a nice blouse that had a shell underneath. So many other people wore tee shirts, jeans, cutoff shorts, etc.

I'm not the biggest dress up fanatic in the world, but once in a while it's nice to be in a dressy place. It was just disappointing.

My work environment is pretty casual so I welcome the chance to put on some of my better clothes....I tell ya, sitting at the bar - right next to this woman made me feel overdressed even though I shouldn't have. All she was missing was the water droplets!

I guess just me personally....living at the beach and wearing a swim suit all summer - I have a hard time going in the 7-11 dressed as she was...I know I would have felt so uncomfortable....it was actually a very funny sight, they shared a nice bottle of wine and a HUGE sushi platter - it just really didn't go with the outfit. (the presentation) But to each their own....;)

Artist Point did turn away business and boy, were some people mad! :teeth: I've posted in a couple of different threads about this but when DH and I dined there last week they were strictly enforcing the dress code. No Collared Shirt = No Food For You!

That being said, they did have "loner" dress shirts one could borrow to dine there...

WOW! I wonder if that goes for suits with non collard shirts. :confused3 My DH was planning on wearing one to CG this summer. Maybe he should go with shorts and a polo shirt instead, if the collar is the issue.

It does seem that Disney is fixated on that "collar".
Why, I'm not sure.
But that's a whole other issue--
lynninpa: Appears that at Artist Point there is that "maverick manager" I mentioned. So better be safe than sorry.

My DH has a silk knit tee he wears under a sports coat and has never had a problem with a "collar required" place at WDW or other wise dressed like that. Of course if it was a place that was more formal than business casual he would wear a traditional suit.

liilygator, it is funny how different two experiences can be.

We dine there every trip which is 3 sometimes 4 times a year. This May, I thought the crowd was dressed the best I had ever noticed. I did see two guys at different tables with plain black Tshirts. One of these had one of those collars like Tiger Woods wears. Both looked nice and neat. Anyway, most people were dressed in nice resort wear.

I asked our waiter if he had seen a change in what people were wearing and he said no. :confused3 So even our servers differed.

I did see one woman walk out of Kona at breakfast with a see through swimsuit coverup that only came to the bottom of her suit. Yuck!
