You're spending way too much time on this your efforts would be better served helping those affected in any way you personally feel you can that isn't about what you're making it about.
As for keeping up on what's been happening nationwide, I doubt that. Many people are focused on what happens in their own area as it affects them when it comes to weather or natural disasters. As far as evacuations go, A state that has almost 3 million people along with a state that has over 6 million essentially closed down for days, they couldn't evacuate anywhere because they were stuck, if you lost power in your home (and tens of thousands did) good luck getting out with 12-18+inches in a blizzard warning with sub zero temps (wind chill -5 to -15). I've never in my life seen all major highways along with local highways in my entire state shutdown and yet they did and not all of them are even open yet. But even as massive of a impact as it is I wouldn't expect people in Sacramento much less world wide to cover all the details much less complain multiple times on the internet that people on CNN aren't abuzz about it.
Please go donate where you can and don't worry about world/not world news.
