I can just barely tolerate RNRC at WDW and I am worried about California Screaming. It seems like a loooonnnng ride. It seems like it would be worse since you can see where you're going.

Has anyone been on both and be willing to compare the two for me?

Others can give you the blow by blow, but I've been on R&RC and they are nothing at all alike - except for the slightly similar "sit and wait for it" 0-60 launch. Even then, what happens after the launch is nothing similar.

You can see the entirety of Screamin before you set foot on the ride. It weaves around and over the Paradise Pier section of the park - above the "boardwalk" and it's attractions.

R&RC has no drops - only the 2 inversions and the corkscrew and all those funky neon signs to confuse you. Screamin has several drops - including 1 immediately after the 0-60 (R&RC goes straight into the first loop).

Each one is enjoyed for it's own merits!

Okay, that's it for me. No CS, no how. I HATE drops. I love RNRC except for the launch, so a launch plus "several" drops is definitely the deciding factor.

Thanks!!!

How funny! That's exactly why I won't set foot on CS! I hate drops, so I love R&RC - as long as my equilibrium holds out. (I've been known to weave pretty sadly after riding it twice in a row!:lmao:)

I do find it fun to watch CS go swooping all around me while sitting and waiting with the kids for others to get done with it. It's also fun to watch from the TSMM queue.

I posted a video on YouTube here, you can watch it and see what the ride is like. Personally, I love both RNRC and CS, but they are different, other than the take-off.

That is funny...I can ride Screamin' over and over and over again (and often do!) but Rock N Roller Coaster makes me sick! I guess it's because I CAN'T see what I'm doing, so to be all of a sudden thrown upside down and inverted in the dark, unexpectedly is too much for my body to bear. I'll take the ups and downs and "air time" any day!

Just how bad are the drops?

I just fine it very jerky and because it is dark you cannot seem to find ones balance and as soon as I go through the donut I feel sick even though outside in the light loops dont bother me.:confused3 There really is no drops just speed:thumbsup2

The drops are not bad at all. In fact without the music playing the hills are pretty lame. The music for me gave the sensation like it was going faster than it really was. All in all it is a very smooth fun ride. Not hard at all in my opinion. It is a roller coaster don't get me wrong just not scary.

word.

For me I can handle the launch of RNRC (barely, a couple of more seconds and I would probably be a happy bunny) and I love the high speed turns. The inversion in the dark doesn't bother me (and I think it might bother me if I could see it coming).

Then I read that the drops aren't so bad. That said, should I brave it or give it a miss?

You should go for it! If you don't like it then you don't have to go on it again but if you don't go on it you might miss out on something you really enjoy! And if you think you'll be more scared about seeing the ride of you then just close your eyes! :rotfl:

Ah, I remember waiting for the launch of RNRC, and I think there was a malfunction or something because we were sitting in the cars for 3 minutes and the darned thing wouldn't launch. But they never said it was a problem, so we just sat there in agony, hoping that we wouldn't reach for a phone or something to check the time, only to be blasted into darkness and have the phone whooshed out of our hands.

Anyway!

They are completely different. I enjoy Screamin' a lot, but it was much more a traditional roller coaster.

CS is the best it is so smooth. And not jerky at at.

I think you should give it a try--it's really fun.

I haven't been on RNRC in several years but went on CS for the first time a few weeks ago. In all honesty, it's so dark in RNRC that I had no idea which way we were going (upside down, corkscrew, down a drop, etc.). I did have fun on it but I think I enjoyed CS more because I knew what was coming up. They are both smooth roller coasters but I encourage you to keep your head back on CS because I forgot to do that in the middle of the first ride and my ears hit the restraints. I wised up on the second time I rode it.

If you do decide to ride it, have a great time!!!!

CS for me was kinda a letdown 1st time I rode it. I think it's just too plain to be a Disney attraction. It's a regular, no theming rollercoaster. You can't help but compare it to RnRC if you've been to both mainly due to the 0-55mph start. That's really the only thing they have in common though. As a result, I totally prefer RnRC. It feels a lot faster than CS to me (Probably due to the fact it's in the dark) and the theming is more in line with what you expect from a Disney attraction.

CS is a lot more fun to me! It's my favorite Disney ride! RnRC is fun, but it's over before you know it--too short. I'm not scared of roller coasters so it's hard for me to say if you would do okay on CS, but like a lot of others have said, it is a lot smoother. RnRC jerks you around a lot, which, to me, would make it "scarier."

I could ride CS over and over and not get tired of it (and I have!). I always get off giddy :yay:, and I wouldn't miss it for anything. I'm over RnRC after two or three times. :confused3

Not picking on you Mike, but just noting something that happens a lot.

I find it completely fascinating to hear folks say that there is no theming on CS and the PP area, when, in fact it's chock full of theming.

That area is designed to be the epitomy of the historic California Pier amusement parks - which were just as famous in their day as Coney Island.

Therefore, we are supposed to be seeing it exactly how it is and how it was meant to be!:thumbsup2

I think the OP should try Calif. Screamin'. :thumbsup2

My DS6 rode Calif. Screamin' -- and he wants to ride it again.

I'm not too big into coasters, but Calif. Screamin' seemed fairly smooth.

RnRC's acceleration was much worse than CS's. :)

During RnRC's acceleration I looked like this guy in photo #3: :)
