Calif Screaming anything like RNRC at WDW?

Not picking on you Mike, but just noting something that happens a lot.

I find it completely fascinating to hear folks say that there is no theming on CS and the PP area, when, in fact it's chock full of theming.

That area is designed to be the epitomy of the historic California Pier amusement parks - which were just as famous in their day as Coney Island.

Therefore, we are supposed to be seeing it exactly how it is and how it was meant to be!:thumbsup2

No worries. You have a valid point. CS does fit in the theming of the area properly (PP). It's not supposed to be anything other than it is. It's just that what it's supposed to be doesn’t hit the mark for me. When you are used to rollercoasters that take you through space, ice caves and mines, having one that just takes you through steel superstructure seems out of place in the DLR as a whole. It doesn’t have the charm (or feel) of an old woody like the one up in Santa Cruz (Which I used to go to a lot as a kid) and it isn't as thrilling as a rollercoaster you'd find at Universal or Magic Mtn. Like I said, it just kinda misses the mark for me.

The inversion in the dark doesn't bother me (and I think it might bother me if I could see it coming).

Unlike RnRC, you can see the inversion coming on Screamin'.

I don't want to spoil any fun for anyone so I'll just post links to these pictures. If you want, you can see it before.....during.....and after! :goodvibes

CS is a lot more fun to me! It's my favorite Disney ride! RnRC is fun, but it's over before you know it--too short. I'm not scared of roller coasters so it's hard for me to say if you would do okay on CS, but like a lot of others have said, it is a lot smoother. RnRC jerks you around a lot, which, to me, would make it "scarier."

I could ride CS over and over and not get tired of it (and I have!). I always get off giddy :yay:, and I wouldn't miss it for anything. I'm over RnRC after two or three times. :confused3

ITA! :thumbsup2

I can't do RNRC more than twice in a row. It's too jerky and my head rattles around like it doesn't on CS. I love RNRC... but I love CS much more!! Plus- I love getting the great view of the mountains in the day at the top of CS, and the beautiful view of the park all lit up when I ride at night. :cool2:

Just how bad are the drops?

compared to the take-off, they're almost nothing. (but I like Screamin' quite a bit)

And it reminds me of the Giant Dipper, so they've done their jobs well! Except of course the Dipper doesn't have a loop and is wooden and doesn't take off like that. So it visually looks, sort of, like it.

Oh I loved the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk...I've really got to go visit my dad in Aptos and spend some serious time at the boardwalk!

FWIW with the inversion, it's not like you see the loop like you do on the ground. Basically you just see track, and then the view around the track kinda goes upside down. I find it to be the easiest part of the ride! And yes it's smooth. Also, I'm short, so as long as I'm not right in front, I don't really see that much of what's in front of me. The only time I was in front it was dark so I was "safe". :)

The big drop in CS doesn't have to be that bad. If you sit in the very front, you'll get almost halfway down before the last car clears the top and the coaster speeds up. It can still be a little scary because you have a clear view of where you are going, but the droppy feeling is minimized.

If you sit in the very back, it is a totally different ride.

I can also illustrate that nice description.......:)

Going UP.......Going DOWN

OP, I have to say that I've been on RnR and CS, and I can't take CS, but went on RnR many times. It has nothing to do with the brightness factor either. I could ride SM when it was lit up for the 50th, but can't ride it now in the dark because I get sick from the lights flashing by me against the pitch black. So I prefer brighter, lit up and seeing whatever is coming my way. RnR seemed smoother to me and just when I was at the point where it could have potentially turned miserable, it was done. :lmao: CS gave me a migraine and neck ache for the rest of the day. I felt like my brain was banging around inside my skull at the end because the ending was so abrupt. Maybe you should give it a try once and see how you like it. It has single rider so you can just queue up with a very short wait...Do it at the end of one night in case you get sick so you're not miserable the rest of the day...or rather, the ending of the day is near so it won't matter as much!:scared1: ;) :rotfl: :goodvibes It's not the drop or the inversion that's bad... It's the sudden stop at the end! !:scared1:

I've been on alot of big coasters but CS ranks at the top. It's nice and smooth, I like the music. I've been on ones that have bigger drops but I just like CS overall. I like RnR too but I think it can be too intense sometimes, depending on where in the car you are.

I agree, this is not Disneyland it is California Adventure. Reminds me alot of POP back in the early years just nicer.

OP here! Just back last night and I LOVED California Screamin'!!!!!!!!

The launch is a little less intense than RNRC in WDW so that was great for me. The inversion was good, the drops were not too bad and the shoulder harness made them easy to take.

The first time I rode it I had my eyes closed for the launch, the loop and the drops, but after that I rode it with my eyes open as wide as my screaming mouth!!!

I also rode Tower of Terror for the first time. Not my fav, but could do it again.
