Cali Grill vs Artist Point

This ADR is for my mom's special 64th birthday dinner, but we will have two young kids with us (5 and 1.5). We've been to AP before--I love the comfortable, casual atmosphere there, and the menu is ok. We have never done CG--the menu is a little more intriguing to me.

Here's the hangup--we could only get a CG reservation at 5:05 pm, but we could get AP at 6:30 (more ideal). We'd have spent the day at a water park, and I don't want to rush naptime before dinner to ensure a peaceful experience. Should we just keep AP at 6:30? I hate to pass up the idea of CG, though!

Just keep looking for a more ideal time for California Grill but I think if time is more important then keep the AP reservation for now...

EDIT: I think your kids should be fine at both restaurants. FWIW, I'm planning to take my 2 year old to brunch At Cali grill on our next trip and taking him to Narcoosee's for dinner

It's tough because not having to rush is a big pro of keeping AP. Personally, I would keep CG and keep trying for a better time. I also think age is fine if your kids are good in restaurants. My girls were 5 (just turned 5) and 2.5 the first time they went to CG and were fine. We took them on a couple of walks out on the exterior decks in between courses and they were thoroughly entertained eating and coloring while at the table.

Ate at both on our last trip. Both very high quality, I would keep both reservations and keep looking for a better time, then cancel one as it draws near or you get your desired time.

Win win either way for you!

Of course with TWO reservations (and one you have no intention of keeping), you take that time away from someone who might want a reservation.

If your heart is set on the California Grill I would keep that one. Then set a time where you must leave the waterpark so that the kids can go back and get a nap, and stick to it.
