Calena's quest for healthy living - advice welcome!

I love water parks! I'm trying to convince my DH that we should go to Schlitterbahn (local park here in TX, German theme, loose translation "the sled highway") when I get back from DC. Maybe the swim suits will be on sale by then.

Congrats on the 12 lbs! That's a big accomplishment!

Happy Friday!

Enjoy the waterpark! Don't worry about how others perceive you. YOU are doing this for YOU not for them!

You are still doing really really awesome! Congrats on all the loss!

I'll catch up when I return from FL!

Have a great 2 weeks!

how'd the waterpark go? I bet you had a blast! :sunny:

Gosh, I miss BB and TL! They are so fun!

Can't wait to hear about your day!

Happy Saturday! :sunny:

I had a good time at the Waterpark. I wore a cute skirted tankini that I like. It accentuates the best parts and covers up my hips which I am still working on... that is where I want 15 lbs to come off! :rotfl: I never want my size/self image keep me from doing fun stuff with my kids. I actually felt bad for the moms that just walked around in shorts and a T-shirt and would not get in the water, but to each his/her own.
The best thing was the kids had a great time. I drove so I had two other moms with me in the car and that was fun. Then we met up with the kids at the park and it was go go go all day. The park was nice, but it was not Typhoon Lagoon... now I know why Disney spoils us! It was a great day and the best class trip I have been on with my kids!
Thanks for all the encouragement about size/swimsuit issues. I did just concentrate on having fun. I know I have been working on my body and I am 12 lbs lighter than I was and many pounds firmer thanks to my jogging, T-Tapp and swimming, so that was good. I also got a workout yesterday going up the hills and dragging the tubes up with the kids!
Jay-Nee - I turned 40 last September. I survived it! I still don't feel 40 - maybe 28 - but I think "40" has changed as I get older... it no longer seems so old! :) I'm sorry about your divorce situation. You see so many people going nuts around 40-45. It is tough. I can't imagine what you have gone through, but it sounds like you are really working hard to keep things good for your kids, and as moms that is what we do.
Went for a jog this morning. Almost died it is so hot/humid! I will SWIM later today with the kids and have to clean house to get ready for my mom and dad who arrive next week! It is a mess :guilty:
It is Strawberry season here! I love that. Will try to squeeze in picking time next week with the kids!

Hi Calena!

Congratulations on your South Beach and workout success! Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

I completely understand about the bathing suit thing.... For the past few years, whenever I swim, I wear a t-shirt over my bathing suit. A long, oversized t-shirt. ;) I love swimming and don't want to miss out on the fun with my kids. My DH pointed out (while at Typhoon Lagoon last year :teeth: ) that the people there came in all shapes and sizes and even though I wasn't at my "ideal" weight, I was heathier, fitter, and lighter than a year ago and I should be proud of that t-shirt or not. What a great guy! I am so glad that you went to the waterpark and had a great time!!!! :cool1: (Sorry about taking over your journal with my bathing suit memories. )

Have a great day today! :flower:

Hi Calena,

I'm glad you got out there and had fun with your kids. It is so sad when Mom's aren't comfortable in their bodies and don't get to play with the kids (I've been there). I still don't like how I look in a bathing suit, but like you, I'm not letting it stop me from having fun! We'll get there!!!!!!!!

I don't care for the McD chicken salad. I really like Wendy's mandarin chick salad.

Sunny

Yesterday was the Sunday School picnic at the camp on the lake. We got there and my kids all went in the water fast and they wanted me to come in too... so I did. One of the other moms said I was the only mom "brave" enough to wear a swimsuit! Well... in I went. I don't look great, but I don't look terrible either and I swam and played in the water for 1 1/2 hours instead of sitting on the beach in a chair!!!!! :sunny:
Another funny thing - on Sat night when DH took us out for supper to one of his favourite restaurants the waitress who knows his family well, came over and said, so how is the skinny family? We both went "WHAT?" She said to DH that he had lost so much weight and looked so good (he has lost about 50 lbs in the last year) and she told me I had lost weight and I looked good too!
At the picnic I did not make the best food choices because I had a couple of those chocolate drop cookies... but they were good! The difference is I know that this can trigger me, so today back to PLAN! I have to live my life this way, not look at my changes as a diet! I am learning to make better choices and if the loss is slow, that is fine. The important thing is the scale is going down and I am getting fitter.
HOT today so it will be swimming laps and jogging in the pool this afternoon for exercise.
Mom and Dad are coming on Thursday with my niece and nephew for two weeks, so I have been cleaning out the guest bedroom. The closets in there are my "junk" closets so I have TWO bags for the clothing bank and TWO bags of garbage!!!! Feels good to declutter.

Hi WISHsis!!!!!!! You're doing great. I hate the heat and humidity. I'm so very proud of you! Know that and be happy with yourself. I am with you!

the bathing suit issue i admire you for! i'm only 23 and I'm fearful of the bathing suit.. I have to try and find one before this weekend or I'll be doing the shorts/tank top thing.. where do you suggest looking for one? I've looked and target and walmart but I didnt see anything that would work for me so any help would be nice...

The waterparsk sound like it was a blast! Good for you to not worry and just make a choice that you were comfortable in. I am just starting to wear my 2 piece. I know I'm not perfect, but it looks pretty good. It's not a skimpy one, just a nice jogger one. When I was all buff from karate I used to wear it. That year (3 yrs ago) was the 1st time in my life I ever wore a 2 piece. I love it though, it has great coverage and it is comfortable. It's from Beans, they have nice suits.

I know what you mean about feeling younger than 40. I act about 20 most of the time and I definately think at that age too, but I am super responsible and put my kids 1st (and I walk that walk not just talk it!).

I love the "skinny" family comment - how proud were you of that! I love it when people say I am skinny! I know where the "rolls" are though. :rotfl:

Keep up the great work. And, have fun with Mom and Dad next week. Sounds like a blast! Just remember what my Mom always says "I'm not coming to see the house, I'm coming to see you - so don't fuss!"

Happy Monday! :sunny:

Thanks for the housekeeping comment Jay-nee! I am looking forward to seeing them and will try to not stress too much about the silly stuff.
Work has been nuts this week so I worked more hours than normal and three days straight... which I never do. The joys of working part-time! DH also has a lot of stress so that makes it tough right now, but I am looking forward to JULY when things will calm down a bit!
My weight is staying down but I have not been as diligent with stuff so don't know if I will lose a lb or so this week. I need to find a system I can live with... not just look at the rapid loss. I am SO pleased to have lost the 12 lbs so far though. That has been great. The secret is keeping it off and losing the next bit! Every time I pass by a cookie/cake/ice cream I feel like if I scored a winning goal in a soccer game. Today I was at a lunch for work and I did have a wrap and a big greek salad from the buffet and some orange for my dessert but I skipped the cookies and squares so felt good. Came home and went for a swim with the kids and we jogged races in the pool. I pushed myself harder to beat them... they are getting fast but that is good for me. :sunny:

I weighed in today and one more lb down. Total of 13 since starting wish and 9 this month with South Beach. My loss is slow in these two weeks of starting out with Phase 2 (1 lb each weeek) but I can handle that! My short term goal is to lose 15 by my birthday in September of before... and I have lost one, so that is great! FEEL GOOD! Busy day. Home with the kids so we will do some yard work, clean the kitchen and swim this afternoon. :flower:

Way to go Calena! :cool1: Keep up the good work and you will make your goal by your birthday in September! ::yes:: (My birthday is in September too! :teeth: )

I hope you have a wonderful day! :flower: Enjoy your swim! :fish: :teeth:

Celena,
Hi! Wow! 13 lbs! I'm psyched for you! Keep up the great work - I can tell you are doing it! :)

Lisa

Excellent that you are consistently loosing - that's the way to do it! 13 lbs is ALOT! Great job. When I lost my 1st 10 lbs I went to the market and picked up a 10 lb bag of potatoes and I couldn't believe that I had carried that around! Honestly, I still can't believe that I was 37 lbs over a healthy weight mark for my height - it went on so easily... yikes... Coming off was harder! But I did it and then some. Keep doing what you are doing as it is obviously working! :sunny:

Good for you to try and not stress about the cleaning. It's hard, we always want things to look so good when company comes, but I try really hard to remember my DMs wise words each time. ;) Moms are so smart! ;)

That's too bad about work and DH's work too. That is really hard when that happens. I work PT too but I try so hard to stick to my scheduled hours. When I worked FT, I used to work like 50-60 hrs a week - it was so hard with little ones but I just did not know how to say NO MORE! I'm learning now. I try really hard to start winding down about a 1/2 hr before I'm supposed to head home each day, it doesn't always work, but most days I'm outta there pretty close to on time. :teeth: I love it when it works! Hopefully things will get better now that it is JULY! Yippee!!!! :flower:

Well, I better jet, but I wanted to stop by to say Hi and see how you were doing!

Happy Friday! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Happy Friday! I love how you're finding ways to exercise with your kids! That's so great.

1 lb. a week sounds pretty sensible; consistent progress is the trick, I think, and it sounds like you are well on your way to your goal.

Have a great day!

It has been wild and hectic since Mom and Dad and the kids arrived. It is harder to eat the South Beach way, but I am focusing on most of the time being South Beach! Yesterday was swimming and I also got a jog in. It was Canada Day so we went to fireworks but we had a storm come in so it was a bust! Five dissappointed kids and four disappointed adults! Today I went for a jog as the family sat around the breakfast table - my dad thought I was mad at him and that is why I left - I told him I left because everything seemed to be in control, so I took advantage of the opportunity, plus it was cool! My mom said she was very proud I was being consistent with my exercise. Today is busy again. Family fun :grouphug:

Hi calena! You're doing pretty well! It's hard to stay OP over a holiday and when family/friends come over. Keep up the awesome work!

You do an amazing job of keeping up with exercise even when you have company. Way to Go! I bet your dad was relieved when he figured out you weren't mad at him. (Thats almost humorous.) So sorry your fireworks were rained out.

Hi Calena!

I hope you have a great day today! :flower: Did they reschedule the fireworks for another day?

Great job keeping up with South Beach and your exercise! Keep up the good work! :cheer2:
