Cakes and Napoleons and F&W, oh my! Planning our Disney wedding!! UPDATED 9/15!!!

CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS POST...

How we went to Epcot, I have no idea. Let’s say Friendship Boat. But over to Epcot we did go…our goal for that day: eat as much at the Food and Wine festival as we could possibly stand to, despite having eaten breakfast just a few hours earlier, and having a dinner ADR on the schedule.

Let’s go!

Our first stop was the Canada booth, we figured that it had some of the more potential to get crowded later on. Here we shared the spicy chicken sausage with polenta.

This was unbelievably good, the sausage had a nice smoky flavor that balanced the flavor of the polenta. The onions were balsamic-y, which we usually don't like, but thought it was very good.

Next up, Hawaii. Pork slider, shared.

Eh, disappointing. It was okay. The pork was pretty bland, it needed more sauce and flavor.

It was around this point that the early mornings were starting to catch up with DF. He briefly detoured to the coffee and espresso booth (the one that I’m pretty sure is there year-round), and got a frozen cappuccino.

DF: Actually pretty good, it was exactly what I needed to not fall asleep. The sugar and coffee didn't separate like Dunkin' Donuts' tends to.

Re-energized, we went to Argentina, where I got the beef skewer, and DF went with the lamb.

Beef skewer:

De-skewered:

The beef was great, it had a really nice flavor, and I loved the chimichurri sauce. It was a little heavy on the sauce, but it was far from unpleasant.

Lamb:

DF: The lamb itself, sans the sauce, was good, well-cooked. It had a nice crisp from the grill. I didn't like the mint sauce, it was too minty and garlicy. The lamb was almost like a vessel for all of the sauce.

We then continued strolling around the booths, not much catching our eye until America, where DF got the lobster roll.

DF: It was good, but I didn't care for the dill mayonnaise. It was a healthy portion of lobster, I would have preferred just the buttered roll and lobster.

We then decided that we HAD to pay our friends at the Florida Local booth a visit, and got the arepa to share. (Although, since we're all friends here, I'll admit that I accidentally dropped the first one that DF got for us, and when he went back to get another, they were so excited that we enjoyed the first one so much that he went along with it and told them that I refused to share with him :rotfl: )

This was very good, with a cornmeal pastry and a nice meat filling. The corn was very vinegar-y, which I didn't care for, but DF enjoyed.

Wingnut, at this point, declared himself done. I was pretty full, but knew I absolutely could not visit the Food and Wine festival without trying one particular item: the Belgian waffle.

SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. I offered some to DF, but he declined, which I was completely ok with! The waffle was nice and light, and the berry sauce was sweet and wonderful.

At some point, we ran into my parents, because where else would we all be besides Epcot? We sat around Norway for awhile, where I learned that they do not sell the $2.50 bottles of water that are sold elsewhere in Disney (Dasani?), but only the fancy Voss water for a bit higher of a price (I want to say $3.50).

But hey, doesn’t it look classy?

By this point, I was pretty full, and asked DF if he really wanted to go to our ADR for dinner that night. His answer was a resounding yes (I guess he was the smart one to skip the waffle, but hey, no regrets here!), so I knew I couldn’t try to back out of going now, since he was so excited. Plus, I was still very interested to visit this restaurant, as it was totally new to us. We started to make our way out of Epcot when something I had never seen in person happened.

Oh hey, Illuminations globe!!

While the globe kind of is the star of the show, these barges are super-important too.

...and now back to the regularly-scheduled walkway.

The entire “moving the globe” procedure takes only around 15 minutes, so we were back on our way after that, heading to the POFQ bus stop. We arrived back at the room, and packed up our things for a bit before heading out to our last dinner of the trip! :sad1:

That's so cool that you had a front row seat to see the globe be put into place!

All the F&W samplings look awesome. Looks like potato chips on the lamb?? :confused3 Also, what was served with the beef skewer in Argentina? Looks like mashed potatoes. No matter, it all looks so good. I can say that despite dinner in a few hours I would have gotten the belgian waffle. Mmmmm!

Your Boma plate of food looks almost like mine! I tried bobotie for the first time and really was surprised that I liked it.

I think it's hilarious that you two "accidentally" rode TSMM. I'm glad that you liked it better this time. :goodvibes

All that food looks amazing! The chicken sausage sounds divine. I would have saved room for the waffle too.

That waffle was SO good!!!!! I don't really even like waffles and I was trying not to lick the plate! (Mine came on a plate, no idea why, everything else I got was in those ugly brown things).

Too cool that you saw them bring in the barges and the globe! I don't think I even knew they did that, I just assumed it was out there all the time.

I'm so glad that your TSM experience was better this time! Well, except for the camera thing, which stinks big time. Good call on getting a bigger card for your next trip!

Oooh, the Voss water looks so fancy! Actually, if you hadn't prefaced the picture by saying that it was water, I probably wouldn't have realized that it was a water bottle. It kinda reminds me of a giant cologne bottle. :)

Yum, Boma, one of my favorites!

THE TURKEY'S A LITTLE DRY!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Haha, I love that you put Simpsons references in your TR's, Brandon and I are SUCH huge Simpsons dorks, so I love seeing other people that are as well! You don't come across many of them here, for some reason! :thumbsup2

Wow, a 10 minute wait for TSM! Crazy! I'm glad you guys went on, it's a lot of fun, but I hate the insanity you have to go through to ride that ride!

Yay, Epcot! I miss the Food and Wine festival! :sad1: I really hope there is a way I can get myself there this year, even if it is only for a long weekend! :yay:

Your food reviews are always so extensive and informative. Excellent job! Your food choices of the day (for the most part) look and sound great!

YES!!!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed TSMM this time around! I just love it so much, I don't like when people don't enjoy themselves on it! SO I'm glad you did! :woohoo: VICTORY.

Yes, your Voss water does look extremely classy. Those Norwegians are all class, really.

Last dinner of the trip already? :(

Boma is a favorite of ours, but we have never eaten breakfast there!

I miss F&W :( LoL

Isn't it so neat to see the barges come in and the globe? So cool!

I'm glad you gave TSM another try! You realize that since you almost beat Wingnut you'll have to give it another try next time! :rotfl:

How fun that you got to see the Illuminations globe move into the lagoon! I believe we had to wait for it once, too. I love those unexpected moments "behind the magic"!

Boo for your last night, but hooray for that excellent looking waffle! I hope if I ever make it to Food and Wine that they still have that waffle! :goodvibes

Ahh I just found your TR and spent the better part of a week catching up and now you're already up to your last dinner!

Anyway, I'm glad I found your report. I love reading about the trip but especially the wedding planning. I've started planning my Disney wedding already but I'm not even engaged or getting married anytime in the foreseeable future lmao!

Very cool watching the globe come out. Who knew? Honestly, I never really thought about.

Bummer about the memory card, but for future FYI - you can get a memory card at the camera shop in HS. I bought a 4GB card there on one of my trips. I want to say it was around $10 or 11. Not Amazon price, but not outrageous either.

Breakfast - yum! I look at your Boma breakfast and think of my plate and how your plate looks so much prettier than mine because your food isn't touching. :rotfl2:

All your F&W choices look so good, but I think I really need to try that Belgium waffle. YUM!

So, where is this secret dinner destination that Wingnut has to try?????

The Boma breakfast sounds really good!

Hey, no one can pass up a 10 minutes wait at TSM. NO ONE! It's got some kind of gravitational pull or something. ;) Bummer about your memory card though. We always have a couple back up cards, and DH transfers pictures to his laptop every night because we take a TON of pictures. And I would literally just lay down on the ground and cry my eyes out if I ever saw that message on our camera! :rotfl:

That Belgian waffle looks AMAZING. Will definitely need to try one of them at F&W this year. ::yes::

Your food pictures are killing me!! But in a good way, hahaha. Seriously though, between Boma and F&W... this is enough to convince me we need to make a trip in October some year! Whew. That Belgian waffle is just... there are no words for how amazing it looks.

Boo for the last dinner of the trip. :(

Your October crowds look so much better than mine! I'm glad you gave TSM another try! It's one of my favorites!

You are also farther ahead on your TR than I am on mine! However you have a good reason! Planning a wedding is important stuff!

I love Boma...:goodvibes both for the food and the environment... (& you weren't kidding when you mentioned being early for your ADRs... but the AKL is a nice place to kill time...)

TSM... so glad that you had a better experience this time... I think it's a really cute ride (but I'm ok with spinning) but I HATE the lunacy at rope drop... with all the craziness to get back to it...:scared:

Nice food choices at F&W... yums... I too am curious to see where you're heading for dinner...:scratchin

That spicey chicken sausage from Canada looks like something DH would like. Hmm... wonder if I can work my way back to Food & Wine if I go with that angle... :rotfl: Also that Belgian waffle... well I think that might just be enough twisting of our rubber arms.
Annnnyway! Looks like a great round of the Festival! And how cool to get to see the globe being pulled into place!

Your breakfast at Boma sounds really good! I've been wanting to eat at an AKL restaurant, but have been having a difficult time deciding when and where. After seeing your photos, though, and hearing your review, I think I might have found a contender. :thumbsup2

Sorry about your memory card getting full! That sounds like such a pain. But I think all of us tend to go through some kind of camera issues on at least one trip. (Mine used to be the battery dying.):confused3

Yes - it happened to work out perfectly!! Our view seemed to be much better than for people on the other side of the bridge!

Yes, those were potato chips on the lamb. The beef was served with boniato puree - I have no idea what a boniato is, but it was very similar to a mashed potato!

(Just Googled - a boniato is a potato :thumbsup2)

I really liked the bobotie too, it was really good!

I think it's hilarious that you two "accidentally" rode TSMM. I'm glad that you liked it better this time. :goodvibes

We were better prepared this time around, so we really enjoyed the ride!

The chicken sausage was great - we really liked it! :thumbsup2

I LOVED THAT WAFFLE!!! Sooooo good!! Funny you got a plate!

I think they move them out to the center of the lake at 3 pm (not sure what time they go back though, probably the middle of the night).

Yeah, that was not a Disney-like moment for me! :rotfl: I am already all prepared with more camera space! :thumbsup2

Hahaha the bottle was huge, that would be a TON of cologne!!

Yum, Boma, one of my favorites!

Hahahaha and I'm glad that you get my crazy Simpsons references!!! :thumbsup2

It really is crazy what you have to do to ride TSM in a somewhat normal manner!!

I can't wait to be back for F&W, it was so much fun!

Hahaha thanks!!

Yes, knowing what to expect, I had a great time! :thumbsup2

Hahaha oh how we love those classy Norwegian snacks (see: schoolbread!)

YES, so sad! :(

Boma is a favorite of ours, but we have never eaten breakfast there!

I miss F&W :( LoL

Isn't it so neat to see the barges come in and the globe? So cool!

YOU SHOULD!!! It's a great breakfast!!

It was really cool to see! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you gave TSM another try! You realize that since you almost beat Wingnut you'll have to give it another try next time! :rotfl:

Hahahaha yes!! I was so close to winning this time (not really), I'm absolutely giving it another try!

So do I, it was fun to see!

That waffle was SO good!!! I'd hope it would still be there on future F&W menus!!

Ahh I just found your TR and spent the better part of a week catching up and now you're already up to your last dinner!

Welcome!!! Glad to have you here!! :goodvibes

Don't worry - we still have an almost-full day after this one!

Aww thank you!! :goodvibes Hahaha wedding planning is fun, there's so much online to look at!!

So, where is this secret dinner destination that Wingnut has to try?????

It was cool to see!!

Good call - I never even thought of going there!!! :thumbsup2

Hahaha I'm strange like that, I hate when my food touches on the plate!

Oh the Belgian waffle was SO good! A must try!!

Ughh...all those food pics looks so good!

Thanks!!! :goodvibes

The Boma breakfast sounds really good!

It was really good!!

Hahaha it really kind of did have a gravitational pull! That's a good idea to transfer the photos - I'm very good about charging the camera while we're on vacation because I'm worried the battery will run out, but never considered the memory card to be a factor!!

Yes, you have to!! So good!! :thumbsup2
