Cakes and Napoleons and F&W, oh my! Planning our Disney wedding!! UPDATED 9/15!!!

YAY for YC AND BC!!! Two wonderful resorts and what's not to love about strolling the boardwalk and walking along the beach of Crescent Lake. Since Em and I stayed (yes, a split stay, I can never make up my mind so why not do both) at YC part of our trip I thought of you when I saw the wedding pavillion across the lake. :)

Poor planty.... almost the fall guy, I mean plant! You're so funny! :rotfl2: I completely understand where your time would be focused about now.

I'm so curious about the avocado margarita since I've heard it is "melony" as well but I'm not a fan of melon so .... I may just need to indulge in a tequila flight instead! The food at La Hacienda always looks so good. It has been a couple years since we have been there so my cravings for that place are starting to grow.

It looks like your dessert party will be absolutely amazing. That location is PERFECT.

All of the food looks so good! Clearly I'm craving Mexican.

We are big fans of San Angel Inn, but La Hacienda looks REALLY good! I could go for some Mexican right about now, yuuuum... and a margarita, too! :rotfl:

Awww I love Ellen's Energy Adventure! DH and I do it every trip, guaranteed.
La Hacienda looks sooooo yummy!

The dessert party location is SO pretty....I'm sure yours will be fab-u-lous!

Sad to admit, but I've broken the Fiesta law several times...can we blame it on the (way too yummy) Margaritas and move on? ;)

Fun update!

Um that super mega platter looks ah-may-zing!! And now I am hungry.

What is this I hear about them changing the NapoleN? My hubs will be crushed.

What, no picture of your new hoodie?

Nothing wrong with stalking the set up of your future reception. :confused3

I think stalking the seating of your reception is a smart idea...:magnify:

Oh I'm glad you went to Hacienda... it's really pretty in there... and I think the food is good... I agree on the desert situ though... I think that the bakery in France is pretty much a great choice after most of the WS restaurants... just cause it's so good...:goodvibes (although I'm not liking what I'm hearing about the Napolean changing...:confused3

I have a soft spot for It's a Small Mexico...:)

Too bad about the BWI, but maybe not having to pack and unpack again during your Disneymoon might be a blessing in disguise.

I was unaware that there was a law, so we've never ridden It's a Small Mexico. Now that I know I'll be sure to remedy that next trip.

Do you guys prefer La Hacienda to San Angel? We've never tried either one. I've always got one on my list, but since I'm never sure which one I want to book I drop it.

How nice to see the dessert party being set up! That fit nicely into the wedding planning! :thumbsup2

Hahaha things changed again with our plans in between my original post and your comment - so we are back to our split stay! :thumbsup2

Never?? You have to!! It's a cute little ride (and a convenient way to sit down in between all of the world showcase walking!)

Hmm...that's a tough one!! They're both very different restaurants, despite both being Mexican restaurants! My vote would probably be with La Hacienda, I think they have a bit more of a variety there. Although the ambiance at San Angel is gorgeous!

I always feel sad watching those kids hit the Donald pinata- poor Donald

Hahaha I know, I feel bad for him too!

Wow that WAS a really long day! But it must have been so exciting to be walking around and planning your wedding at the same time!

Your food a Hacienda looks incredible! We always eat at San Angel Inn and haven't been to Hacienda but I'm wondering if I should convince the DBF to make the switch this year and give it a try??

And I have TWO overpriced Italy hoodies but I were them constantly so they were well worth the money! :rotfl2: Except some creeper started speaking to me IN Italian one day, just randomly, at the grocery store... I was like "what?" and he goes "oh, I saw your sweatshirt and I thought maybe you spoke Italian." Really?? Is that a normal assumption that people make?? You must speak the language of the country represented on your shirt? :confused3:confused3

It definitely was (on both points)!

We really love La Hacienda, if you like San Angel, I'd definitely give it a try!

Hahahaha that's too funny!!

Wow! This looks incredibly delicious to me right now!

It was a really good dinner!! :thumbsup2

Your meal from La Hacienda looks great! I'm very tempted to try that restaurant one day...

I'm rather disappointed that the new French bakery changed the Napolean. I never had a chance to try it during my last trip, and most reviews of the new one aren't quite as positive as the cult following of the previous kind. Perhaps they will be receptive to feedback and change it back? :goodvibes

(Isn't that Taylor Swift video hilarious? Anika is always showing me videos that "I just have to see!" and even I laughed at that one!) :rotfl:

UGH I KNOW, RIGHT??? Now they're more like the Napoleons you see in EVERY bakery, which I'm not really a fan of. I really really hope they go back to the other ones!

Hahaha I thought that was hilarious! They have a bunch of ones with different artists too! :rotfl:

hahahaha I always get confused when my pictures suddenly show me on the other side of the park and I'm like...WHAT DID I DO WHY WOULD I DO THAT. I always say I'm gonna take better notes and I never do.

I was just thinking of making an ADR at La Hacienda for my upcoming trip! I want so many things on the menu! Corn ice cream sounds suuuuper weird though. I'm on the fence cause I've been dying to do San Angel Inn for ages but I think I like the La Hacienda menu better. Oh, but the atmosphere at San Angel! sigh.

Hahahaha I know, I don't really take notes beyond our food reactions, but I swear my pictures got extra mixed-up this time around!

They both are great restaurants, I'd say either is a great choice! I am kind of in the same boat as you, the atmosphere at San Angel is gorgeous, but I prefer the food at La Hacienda!

I started reading this several hours OK but got totally distracted when I clicked on the goat youtube video. :rotfl2: Funny. Not just because it was Taylor Swift - hey - I would never dish on Taylor Swift since she has already written a song about mean people. A goat is just, well, funny. And once you watch one youtube video, you watch another, and another........

I digress.

Dinner looks amazing. I am confused with the avocado rita - it looks frozen? when did frozen ones appear on the menu or is my eye sight bad? :rotfl2: And light on the tequila? What? That's not cool.

Anyway - fun update.

Hahaha aren't they hilarious? I just randomly chose the Taylor Swift one, there's a bunch of other music videos with goats added in out there! I get into the YouTube cycle of watching a billion videos in a row too - most recently it was with Conan clips! :rotfl:

The only avocado ritas I've ever had are frozen - yours weren't?? That's weird!

Hi. Hope you don't mind my following. Daughter is just starting her planning and you have great ideas! Congrats!

Welcome!! Glad to have you here! :)

Congratulations!! :goodvibes

sounds like such a long day, and I don't blame you for not staying for Illuminations!

weddings planning can definitely consume your life! :) LOL understandable that you're busy! No worries! :)

I like going on the Great Movie Ride each visit, but I can pass up the backlot tour and ellens energy adventure and do them only once in a while.. Sometimes when its really hot though, ellens is a joy to go into and stay in the cool for so long! ;)

Hahaha it was definitely a week of long days!!

It can, I didn't realize how much of a black hole the internet can be when wedding planning, you just click on one thing and then you're clicking around for hours!! :rotfl:

While I do like all of those rides, I'm with you on being able to pass on the backlot tour on every trip though!!

First, your food pics are amazing... makes me VERY hungry and VERY sad I have never been to la Hacienda.

Second, I had to go and watch the video once Mary Ellen said she watched (a. I can't miss out... and b. goat videos make me laugh) OMG :lmao::lmao: I am not sure why goats make me laugh.. but they do...:rotfl:

You should definitely visit La Hacienda, it's a really great restaurant!

Hahahaha they always make me laugh too!! :rotfl:

YAY for YC AND BC!!! Two wonderful resorts and what's not to love about strolling the boardwalk and walking along the beach of Crescent Lake. The food at La Hacienda always looks so good. It has been a couple years since we have been there so my cravings for that place are starting to grow.

Awww I'm so excited for our trip, I can't look at Sea Breeze Point now without getting all excited!!

Hahaha yeah Planty's definitely not the one to blame here!! :rotfl:

It is good, it has Midori in it so it is melony (a little bit too much for my taste, but my mom and DF love it!).

It looks like your dessert party will be absolutely amazing. That location is PERFECT.

All of the food looks so good! Clearly I'm craving Mexican.

Thank you!!! :goodvibes

Hahaha it was a great dinner!

We love both restaurants, they're both great! :goodvibes

Awww I love Ellen's Energy Adventure! DH and I do it every trip, guaranteed.
La Hacienda looks sooooo yummy!

Hahaha same here! It was really good!

The dessert party location is SO pretty....I'm sure yours will be fab-u-lous!

Sad to admit, but I've broken the Fiesta law several times...can we blame it on the (way too yummy) Margaritas and move on? ;)

Fun update!

Thank you!!

Hahaha I don't blame you, but I do have trouble passing up such a convenient place to sit in air conditioning for a few minutes! (Along with it being a cute ride too!)

Um that super mega platter looks ah-may-zing!! And now I am hungry.

What is this I hear about them changing the NapoleN? My hubs will be crushed.

What, no picture of your new hoodie?

Nothing wrong with stalking the set up of your future reception. :confused3

It really is a great dinner!

That's what I've heard too!! It stinks - I think they're being changed to the more-commonly seen Napoleon with the chocolate top! :(

It's in the wash right now, I'll post a picture when it's clean! :rotfl:

Hahaha we tried to be subtle stalkers! :rolleyes1

I think stalking the seating of your reception is a smart idea...:magnify:

Oh I'm glad you went to Hacienda... it's really pretty in there... and I think the food is good... I agree on the desert situ though... I have a soft spot for It's a Small Mexico...:)

Hahaha we all thought so!!

Yes, I am always a fan of stopping by the bakery after dinner in the World Showcase!! It stinks that they're changing the beloved Napoleon though!

I thought I commented on this update, but I guess not! :confused3

Haha, I love when I'm going through my pictures and I don't remember how I got from one place to another, but it's right there in the pictures! I'm usually pretty good with my notes, but sometimes, I get really confused going through everything!

I love that you guys stalked your dessert party location! I love that area, I always see wedding parties there and I'm always so jealous that I didn't have a Disney wedding! :sad1: Yours is going to be so amazing!!

While in Mexico you must Margarita.
Looked like a fun time at Epcot.

I just read your post about your split stay at the YC and BW. It sounds like the ideal two resorts to stay at; close to each other and still near your favorite park.

You guys had a long day, but ending it with desserts at the bakery in France is great. They have some of the best food, definitely a top pick for sweets for me.
I hate the sweatshirt dilemma. It's so difficult, debating which is more worth it. Freezing to death or going into debt buying a Disney sweater...

I have seen you around on SO many TRs that I read that I decided I needed to check out yours :) going back to the beginning to get caught up now!

I remember how crazy everything got when I was trying to plan my wedding, so I don't blame you at all for not being able to update your TR as much as you would like to! Wedding planning was so weird - there's so much you rush to do after you first get engaged so you can have all the vendors booked...then there's months of not being able to plan anything...then the 3-6 months before the wedding it all picks back up again!

Like you, I don't dislike Ellen's Energy Adventure, but it's sooooo loooooong, it's hard for me to imagine doing it every trip.

Hahaha I'm cracking up at your picture of the random person's body in World Showcase.

La Hacienda is one of my top Disney restaurants I hope we get to try on our next trip!

Well, long time no post from moi, but I have been reading and following. As you can see in my signature, we've had an interesting "development" in our lives. :)

DH and I loved the YC when we stayed there! We've been dying to try BWI, but unfortunately it didn't work out budget-wise on our last two trips. I love the whole Epcot resort area, though...it's the perfect place for a Disneymoon!

Last time we were at Epcot, we had a little extra time, and entered the Energy Adventure. It was about 5 mins from starting...we sat in there for almost the whole 5 mins and then decided the whole thing would take too long. Yep, we wussed out :rotfl2: I commend you on your ability to find the time on all of your trips!

La Hacienda doesn't accept TIW, so we're possibly trying San Angel on our upcoming trip. Our ADR is for our last meal before leaving, so we'll see if we make it (or find ourselves too stuffed and exhausted).

Sounds like your plans are really coming along! You must be so excited! Your engagement pics were gorgeous :goodvibes I'm sure you will have a beautiful wedding.

Finally all caught up! :thumbsup2 Really loving this TR, especially all of the wedding planning elements. :lovestruc It actually had me popping over to the DFTW website to price out a vow renewal. :rotfl: Looking forward to the upcoming updates!

All of the food from Hacienda looks so amazing! I actually just helped one of my friends from college make a reservation there, even though I've never been. I feel more confident in my suggestion now, haha.

And that avocado margarita? YUM! I seek out any menu item that has either avocados or guac in it when I go out to eat, and I've been dying to try the avocado margarita, but we didn't have time the last time we were in Epcot. Sadness. There's always next time!

I thought I commented on this update, but I guess not! :confused3

Hahaha that always happens to me!!

Idk why, my photos got all mixed around this trip!! I'm hoping my guesses are somewhat accurate! :rotfl:

Thank you!! It was cool to see it being set up! :goodvibes

Haha of course you must! :thumbsup2

Yes, pastries are the perfect way to end (or start, or have at any point during) a Disney day!!

I have seen you around on SO many TRs that I read that I decided I needed to check out yours :) going back to the beginning to get caught up now!

La Hacienda is one of my top Disney restaurants I hope we get to try on our next trip!

It really is a rush, then a lull, then another rush, then another lull! We're just starting another rush now!!! :)

Hahaha I'm REALLY sure I was meaning to get the picture of the Florida Local booth!! :rotfl:

First, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! :yay::yay::yay: How exciting for you!!

I love the Epcot area too, especially during Food and Wine, it's so convenient!

Hahahaha I love that you only lasted through 5 minutes of Universe of Energy!! :rotfl2:

I know, it seems to be one of the very few restaurants that doesn't take TIW! We really liked San Angel too, it's so beautiful there!

Thank you!!! :goodvibes

All of the food from Hacienda looks so amazing! I actually just helped one of my friends from college make a reservation there, even though I've never been. I feel more confident in my suggestion now, haha.

Hahaha we love La Hacienda, I'd say that was a great recommendation! :thumbsup2

It's really good, if you love avocados, I bet you'd enjoy it!

The next morning, since we did not have any meetings or appointments scheduled, we were able to sleep in a bit.

So, naturally, I woke up super-early again. :headache:

While we were heading out of POFQ, DF stopped at the ATM, so I took a couple of pictures around the lobby.

The CM's had a pumpkin decorating contest it seemed. And yes, I am apparently incapable of sleeping until sunrise.

This morning we were going to one of DF’s most-favorite breakfast places in Disney, Boma! We debated doing the bus do-si-do over to AKL, but decided that a cab would just be easier, and got to AKL way earlier than I had thought we would.

Boma wasn’t even open yet when we arrived (I’d say it was around 7 AM), and so we hung out in the gorgeous lobby for a bit.

...and then it was time to eat!

My first plate:

The French toast bread pudding (in the bowl) was amazing, sweet and spiced. The goat cheese eggs were extra cheesy that morning. The bobotie was very good, if a little bit dry. The macadamia banana muffin was nice and moist. The breakfast potatoes were really good and flavorful. The asparagus was just that, asparagus.

DF's first trip to the buffet:

DF: I really liked the pap and chakalaka, it was like grits and salsa for an American palette. The pap was nice and creamy, and the chakalaka that goes in it had a nice spice and heat. I liked the bobotie better this time (than our previous trip), it wasn't as dry. The goat cheese eggs had a bit too much cheese for me, actually. The banana bread was delicious, perfectly moist. The French toast bread pudding was wonderful, and made sweeter and even more delicious with the pecan praline syrup...it was a good way to start your morning!

My next plate:

The turkey was good, a little dry ("THE TURKEY'S A LITTLE DRY!!"). The pap and chakalaka was not bad, but not really my taste first thing in the day. The African fruit salad was good, nice and sweet. I enjoyed the banana bread, but the chocolate pastry was very dry.

...and DF's next plate:

DF: The regular scrambled eggs were good, and the asparagus was good, grilled with a crunch still. The ham was delicious, but the turkey was a bit dry - when I added the mustard and sambal (spicy tomato sauce), it helped, but it was still dry. The fruit salad was delicious, and the apples added a different texture to the mix. I preferred the turkey bobotie to the regular bobotie, it was a little more moist. The sausage was good, a better quality that what I usually find at other Disney restaurants. The pecan sticky bun was delicious, Boma's pastries are the best restaurant pastries on property, in my opinion. The potatoes were really good, they had a Southwestern-like dry rub on them, and were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.

The view from our table:

When we were finishing our plates, our server came by and brought us a sweet celebratory treat.

The jelly pyramid was papaya-flavored, and was really nice and sweet. The apple fritter was good, DF's preferred item on the plate, very cinnamony. The truffle was delicious, and was very creamy inside. The macaron was great too, and was pistachio flavored.

Truffle cross-section:

Macaron cross-section:

Overall, we had a wonderful breakfast at Boma, and will absolutely return on future trips!

After breakfast, we headed over to the bus stops, and hopped on a bus that was DHS-bound. We observed that we were probably the only people heading to DHS at before-rope-drop-o’-clock that weren’t trying to race to TSM (I had had a less-than-enjoyable experience on our last trip when we rode, when I had had no idea that the ride spun and tossed you around like it does), but there’s still plenty of fun stuff for us to enjoy there!

The park was already letting people in by the time we got there, and it was barely even populated by that point. The few people we did see around were running towards TSM, as we had predicted, or Sunset Blvd towards the thrill rides.

“Why don’t we walk down the Pixar street now, while it isn’t packed?” I suggested, and we headed in that direction, en route to the Muppets.

We strolled along, and passed the wait time for Toy Story Mania, which was only 10 minutes at that point. I pointed it out to DF, how low that wait time still was.

“It was a fun ride, even though it spun around a bit more than I had thought” he commented, with more than a bit of interest.

“Wait, do you want to ride it?” I stopped right outside the entrance.

“Only if you want to, we don’t have to”

“Let’s go,” I figured I knew what would be coming a bit better this time, and would be better prepared to brace myself when the “car” spun around.

We entered the queue, and we pretty much walked through the entire thing until just past Mr. Potato Head. I tried to take a few pictures as we went through, everything there is so fun and colorful.

…until I got the dreaded message on my camera screen.

“HOW CAN MY MEMORY CARD BE FULL?????” I’ll admit, yes, I was that person freaking out in the TSM queue. A quick look through my camera showed that I had accidentally been taking all of my photos on the “huge, billboard-size” setting, and there was no way to mass-convert everything I already had on the card to a smaller size. I frantically tried to delete photos, but I wasn’t able to clear that much space, only enough for a handful more photos for the remaining 2 days of the trip.

(And no, of course I didn’t have a larger memory card with me. DF already bought me one for our next trip though!)

(From this point on, the photos are a mix of ones taken by my camera and phone. So Mary Ellen, you’ll be able to see a good percentage of them now!)

We went through the rest of the queue (me, trying to fix my camera; DF trying to get me to keep moving and stop holding up the line), and hopped on the ride….where, knowing what to expect, we had a great time!

In the end, yes DF won, but for a while there, I was actually winning! (I never ever ever ever EVER win at these types of games, so I actually was bragging after the ride that I was “briefly winning.”)

(Hey, I’ll take my small victories where I can get them!)

After my near-win on TSM, I can only assume that we briefly visited our usual favorites at DHS (Muppets are a safe guess), before heading out of the park.

One last picture from DHS:
