Laurafoster, I wrote about what I selected for my custom vow renewal in my trip report. If you click here and look for the two posts on that page entitled, "FTW VR Planning Session Trip, Day 2: Part 6" and "FTW VR Planning Session Trip, Day 2: Part 7," you'll find links to photos of cakes, including the mini-cake that I selected for my vow renewal.

I hope this helps.

Here is a picture of our cake:

It's called the Destination Castle cake. We also paid Disney Floral to put flowers around the base of the cake. The whole thing was just gorgeous :) As far as flavors go, our bottom layer was chocolate cake w/ raspberry icing and fresh raspberries....while it tasted DELICIOUS on the night of the wedding, it did NOT keep very well at all. After a few days, the icing started to ferment and it smelled like beer! Yuck! Unfortunately, our top layer was also chocolate cake w/ raspberry icing and by the time we went to eat it (a few days after the wedding), the raspberry icing had gone bad :( Oh well, at least it was delicious on the night of the wedding!! Our middle layer was marble cake w/ peanut butter cup icing which was also delicious and it also kept much better than the raspberry.

Hey-

Disney doesn't make cakes for less than 50 guests on the Custom side of the house. It's a line item marked in our BEO.

Here is a link to the Unofficial Disney Wedding Guide: http://www.yourfairytale.com/cakes.html
They have a few photos of cakes there. When you meet with your EM for the first time, they will pull out a book of cakes, options, and fees.

Our layers and flavors: Bottom tier is yellow cake with Bavarian cream and lots of strawberries; second tier is chocolate cake with choclate mousse; top tier is red velvet cake with chocolate mousse... DF like the chocolate mousee better than the white choclate mousse... Who knew! Our other tier option (when we were planning for 100 guests) was almond cake with Bailey's mousse. That was divine!

If you wanted something special, they do make small, individual cakes. They are at a premium price, but for 20 people, it might be better than ordering a cake for 50. Just a thought...

xoxo

we choose the coral & shells design 3 layer cake. our 1st & 3rd layer is chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse & our middle layer is vanilla/white cake with white chocolate mousse with strawberries. we tried a number of cake flavors & fillings at our planning session & those were the ones we choose. we originally wanted red velvet for one of the layers but it had no taste & we originally wanted the peanut butter but it was to jiffy for us.

like underthemistletoe said most custom cakes are made for 50 but im sure they can work with you.

Hi Laura.
We were wed in September at the Pavilion and had the intimate reception and all that.
My wife made the decisions about the cake and went for the marble and buttercream.
It was simply divine ! We really didn't do it any justice. It was enormous. There were 8 people at our intimate wedding and at least 2/3 of the cake stayed in Florida when we came home. It was very sad, but the thing was enormous and that was just the normal intimate cake.

I would say that the marbled sponge and buttercream filling were about as mediochre as you could get without being too sickly. Extremely tasty, but just so big !

Hmm thats an interesting thought - i wonder if Disney would let me do the intimate cake? We will only have 20 people who would eat it. Just seems like such a waste to pay for a huge cake.

I was told the smallest cake we could have for our custom wedding was the 50 person minimum one...it can't hurt to ask your EM though!

You should check with your EM about a smaller cake. Disney has relaxed their 50 person minimum as of late. They now have worked with the EM's as to standard cake design offerings, but with a minimum of 30 for round cakes, 40 for square cakes, using the per person price as the guideline. Only difference is they must then charge a delivery fee if your reception is not at the Grand Floridian.

I loved our cake so much, I'm constantly on the lookout to try and recreate it...well this layer anyway:

vanilla cake
white chocolate mousse
passionfruit

yum, yum, yum! :)
