Thanks to everyone who has recommended the yummy cake pops! I was at DTD last night and we decided to try one form the Candy Cauldron.....so good! Please try one....best thing ever!!!

I really wanted to like them....we've seen so many cute ones and even had planned on making them for my oldest dds sweet 16. We got a white chocolate covered one from Candy Cauldron and blech. Even my 17 year old son who has a sweet tooth didn't like it....the cake was so dense and I realize it's cake mixed with something (icing maybe?) but it makes it taste like cake that wasn't baked long enough....we didn't enjoy it at all.

Ooooh, never hear of these, would love to see a pic or hear more details. Yum!

I've never had the ones at WDW, but if you search online under the term "cake balls" you'll come up with quite a bit. Cake pops are just cake balls with a lolly pop stick inserted in the bottom. They also go by names like cake truffles and cake bombs. As for the taste, it all really comes down to the ingredients. Some of them can taste yuck if the melts used for the coating are lower quality and have a high waxy quality. Better melts just taste like white chocolate and of course you could just use chocolate to coat them. The inside also matters. I know some people like basic cake balls- i.e. chocolate cake, chocolate frosting and chocolate coating, but I prefer contrasts. My most recent batch was from scraps left over from DD5s bday cake that I froze. They were blueberry pound cake w/blueberry filling and cheesecake frosting coated in higher quality melts (i.e. white chocolate flavor). I'm actually thinking about doing jack o lantern cake ball pops w/mouse ears for my girls' classes.

Oooh, I didn't know WDW started selling them. My husband is a cake pop addict so I'll have to bring some home for him to try.

Bed, Bath and Beyond sells cake ball makers! My friend surprised me with one last week. They look like waffle irons on the outside, but on the inside makes a dozen cake balls or donut holes...Mmmmm.

I got our Babycakes cake pop maker from Kohls for $20.00. We make them cakier and less dense.

I know we're off topic a bit, but if you have the time to hand roll them (which I prefer b/c I'm cheap :rotfl2:) - it's pretty easy. If you spray your hands with Pam or Baker's Secret they are super easy to handle.
