Cake fillings

Summer I agree, It is unfair and really doesnt make sense. How could peanut butter not hold up but the chocolate mousse does??? If Tanis says ok to the peanut butter please let me know and I will ask again. I even said I had heard other brides has the peanut butter mousse. I dont understand. Good luck. By the way...I love the design of your cake!

Oh I actually have NO idea if it's a summer vs. winter thing or not. I was just taking a wild guess based on the fact that JaxTeach and I are both December brides and are allowed to have it, and I've heard of a few instances where summer brides were not. But you're right, if chocolate mousse is OK to have, why wouldn't PB mousse be OK???

I had my Escape VR in June at the WP. So I don't know if having it at the WP (with the cake cutting at the Commanders Terrace at the GF) made a difference in us getting the peanut butter, or if it is based on the bakery or just the whim of what coordinator you get. I hope you all get what you want so that your wedding is the fairy tale you want.

Summer I may be wrong but your cake looks like it may be fondant icing, not buttercream at all ! ( it looks wonderful by the way! )

Maddiesmum03 - Yes, the cake pictured is fondant icing but Tanis told me they couldn't use fondant as it won't hold up in the heat. It's a shame really, all the cakes over here have fondant covering, and I love fondant:) Tanis told me the baker will smooth out the buttercream instead.

Okay, that is not right information. Fondant actually holds up better in heat than buttercream. That is odd that she is telling you that. I live in Tennessee which is very hot and very humid like florida. Fondant is common place for outside weddings because it holds up so well. However, it is more expensive.

Will she let you talk directly with the baker?

Hmmm, I don't know, I never questioned it, she said the icing would bubble if I went with fondant instead of buttercream. I may have to ask her again, just to be sure!

I have NEVER heard of that! When you cover a cake in Fondant, you first ice the cake with buttercream. Then you apply the fondant to the buttercream.. think of the buttercream as the glue that holds the fondant on. I don't see how it could bubble. That's just odd.

I also have Tanis, and I'm getting married at the WP in August and was told 'no' to the peanut butter mousse because it's only for custom cakes. I wasn't even allowed to pay extra for it. :sad1:

Not yet, I'm hoping to hear from her today. I'm gonna tell her I know other intimates are allowed it.

Just in case I can't get PB mousse, does anyone have any other recommendations to go with marble cake? My top layer is almond and amaretto.

I am probably going to go with the bavarian cream. I am afraid that the berry based ones will have an artificial flavor.

I'd be surprised if you hear back today, 4th of July and all.
I'm very interested to hear how this plays out. I know my fiance and I would be thrilled with a peanut butter cup filling if we could get it...

are DFTW closed today then?? is it a holiday in the usa? I know its 4th july but was not sure if its a national holiday?

Summer, I had always heard the exact same thing that other have said -- fondant actually stands up better to heat than buttercream. I hope your planner changes her mind on that one (esp if you tell her you know what she said before isn't true!), your cake is so pretty! It'd be pretty with buttercream, too, but I'm with you on loving the look of fondant.

If she doesn't change her mind on the pb mousse, I would suggest raspberry mousse to go with your marble cake. I am doing that for one tier of my cake, and I heard it's a really good combo. Chocolate mousse would also be really good with marble cake.

Yes - it's a federal holiday so just about every business is closed...

I'm on pins and needles to know what Tanis says about peanut butter filling and fondant!

Yes, it is our "Independence Day" where we celebrate our independence from Great Britain. It is a federal holiday, most government offices are closed (yey, I get the day off!), and many private businesses are closed also.

Yes Sumer, I agree with what everyone else has said about the fondant. Fondant iced cakes are popular in Australia and South Africa, both not exactly cold countries!
