I took my first cake decorating class at Michael's craft store yesterday and I am so excited about it!!! It's the wilton cake decorating. Has anyone else taken any cake decorating classes?
This looks like a lot of fun, but I'm wondering if it will stay that way. Has anyone else taken any of these classes? What did you think about it?

Not me personally but my mother did about 30 years ago. She became a cake decorator for Safeway and by the time she retired had made quite a name for herself. If you've got any artistic talent at all you can do a lot with it. Good luck to you!

I took the Wilton classes through my local Michael's too! I did those about a year ago...I didn't care much for the teaching method of my first instructor, but I had a different one for the 2nd and 3rd rounds of classes and I loved her! The 2nd set of classes can be a bit overwhelming as it's mostly flowers. You learn all sorts of flowers...lillies, victorian roses, apple blossoms, violets, etc. The 3rd round focuses more on working with fondant. You learn to make fondant roses and how to cover a cake with fondant.

I enjoyed myself immensely in the classes! Immediately after I completed them, I did a wedding cake for some friends! It was a very, very simple cake, but I did it! It has since inspired me to go back to school...I am now a culinary arts student. My concentration is baking and pastry arts. When I am done, I will have an associate's degree in hospitality administration. I will be on my way to becoming a pastry chef!

Good luck and have fun!

I have always wanted to take on of these classes! Let me know how it goes. :)

My DD (10 at the time) and I took the Wilton 1 cake dec. class last year, also at Michaels. While we did enjoy it, we now have a better appreciation for the work that cake decorators do!

You may want to check out the wilton website (I think it is wilton.com) it is fabulous, and has a nice discussion forum, as well as some really cute ideas.

Yes I took a cake decorating class, it was fun the entire time. I must say the teacher took pity on me and gave me my 3 certificates, even though I stunk at making anything.

I think your class sounds like fun. I have had an interest...but no class available. Enjoy!!

I can't cook and I have no artistic ability.

But I can sure taste test for all of you if you need it.

My neighbor is taking one right now. She's on the second one, she's going to do the wedding cake one next. She's really enjoying it, she doesn't like cooking at all, but thought this would be fun. I'm pretty impressed with the stuff they have been doing, looks really hard! I saw her the other day and her daughter was covered in powdered sugar, apparently she had been practising her flower decorations and her daughter had been eating the mistakes...unfortunately there was quite a few!!

Hi!

I took a cake decorating class a few years ago. It wasn't one of the ones offered by Wilton, a local bakery did it. I loved it! I took a few more and have always wanted to take the Wilton ones. Our Hobby Lobby offers them now.

Taking the cake decorating class got me hooked on collecting cake pans. I have about 200 of the cake pans from Wilton. I hope to make a cake from each of the pans someday. There are some pretty cute ones out there.
