Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

It is not theater. In the years I’ve been going to WDW as an adult, I have watched people get towed from Poly, GF, YC, and BC.

People want it to be theater but I promise you it’s not.

I’ve also seen vehicles towed at Poly and Contemporary. Granted, I don't know the reason for the tows, but there is always the risk when pushing the boundaries.

I agree the first year is crucial. The CBS has been open less than two months. Still plenty of time to find their footing, assuming that you are correct and they are struggling. I don't know that I would compare restaurants opening and closing in a midsize city to the CBS which is on Disney property, and already has proven their concept to be successful in another market. Already having once successful restaurant may give the CBS access to financial resources that other new restaurants may not have. But having never opened a restaurant myself or having any direct knowledge of the CBS's plans, I don't presume to know what their planning or strategy is, or whether it is good or bad.
I have several family members in the industry, one of which is an executive chef who specializes in opening new restaurants (always on the move that one). 2 months should have been enough time to get their rhythm down service-wise. Especially since it's been said they had been training for months prior to opening. I'll give them leeway on food orders (in and out of stock ingredients and so forth), as that can take a while to sort a pattern out, but what people are experiencing at check-in and after should be flawless by now at this price point.

We visited the restaurant twice and the bakery several times this past weekend. No complaints about the food or the service. The only thing that baffled me was the disconnection between the restaurant availability and the MDE app. We would have liked to dine there more without having to call or walk up.

I can now confidently say that I have tried all their signature coffees and lattes (the coconut latte was my favorite 🥥). Wish I could say the same about their pastries, but alas each bite was probably 500 calories.

We (my sister & I) ate there twice - Dec. 13th for breakfast and Dec. 15th for lunch. We also got cake slices another night after park close. Everything was amazing - from the delicious food and drinks, gorgeous atmosphere, and attentive servers. I would highly recommend and would book again. Our favourites: pixie fetti pancakes, croissant, lavender lemonade, London fog, ice cream, and the chicken velvet soup. Of course the best - the red velvet cake which took 3 days to eat - still fresh and delicious. We were seated both times quickly with breakfast in main dining area and lunch in outer area. Very few empty tables both times.

So nice to hear a positive review. Chicken velvet soup sounds lovely, was it just fancy cream of chicken?

A report on our bar seating experience on a Friday, around 6:30pm. Inquired about bar seating from the hostess out front and was told to go inside and look as it's first come/first served. The bar was only about 1/3 occupied, so we grabbed a spot. In our time there the bar never really got any busier - so for those inclined it's potentially a good impromptu option.

Some things I learned - while the bar is first come, first served, the tables in the bar area are used for dining reservations. The servers behind the bar serve those tables. I recall a review post from several weeks ago from someone that had unfavorable/slow service at a table in this area. On this night they seemed well staffed and were quick to consistently make their way around the room, but YMMV.

I'm personally surprised the "bar room" is used for dining reservations. It's clearly built to be more of a bar/lounge area, in my opinion, and I would not be particularly happy if I was sat there with a dining reservation. Like the "outer room" the tables are glass top, not white table cloth. While the room itself is lovely/well decorated, it's still "not the main room" where many would likely want to be, and "feels" more loungy, in my opinion.

So, back to the bar - we had exceptionally slow service at our table on my first visit to CBS several weeks ago, so slow we bailed on dessert as we were tired of being there. The bar was more our speed - servers there to quickly get you a drink, talk about the menu, etc. Our cocktails were decent, food was quick, servers were fun. We weren't that hungry so each ordered the soup of the day (cauliflower) which was served with a half baget. This was a nice small meal on a coldish night.

I think this has been discussed but the cake menu seems to change, it doesn't totally match what's on the Disney website right now. Eg, we had wanted to order the "Millionaire Cake" as sort of a joke with someone, but we were told it was taken off for the current seasonal menu. After much deliberation we went with the Raspberry Champagne Cake. I'm not cultured enough to understand the difference between high end and low end cake ingredients, but it was fine I guess!

May just be a bar thing but we paid the normal U.S. way by a bill/give the credit card to the server/get a sleeve with receipts back to tip/etc, not the electronic device method.

Glad we had a chance to try this place again, but I worry a bit about the repeatability factor? There's nothing about the menu or vibe that would put this in on our "consistent place we like to go" list, like it is for places like Cali Grill, Citricos, Flying Fish, and similar - where I can spend the same $ and get more of the experience we're looking for in a 'fine dining' type of environment. Granted we may not be the exact target audience for Cake Bake, which I get/can understand. I'm just a little bummed as I was looking forward to something that may get on that repeat list, but I'm still not sure this is it.

Like always with dining, YMMV!

Last week I just heard a lady at Dolphin’s front desk trying to track down info on her car that she said they had towed! Don’t know why she got towed but I guess the tows stay busy…

Worried about repeatability? Haven't you been there at least twice in less than two months? 😉 😁

Ha, fair. In my defense, different dining partners for each visit - does that count? lol. And I was still mad about no cake the first time (although that was my fault). I’ll give anything a second chance! 8-)

I think it just further confirmed what I thought the first time - a fine brunch/lunch spot, but there are other WDW dinner options we enjoy more.

This may have been addressed but on open table you can only book 30 days out - is it still 60 through Disney if you book through them?

That's a good question. My ADR window opened on 12/18 for a 7 night stay in February and there was not a single reservation available at CBS for my entire stay. I'm assuming that the reservations for that week have not been downloaded into their system.

Yes the normal 60 day ADR. But I’ve been checking ADRs & OT reservations since they opened. All I can say is, keep checking. I’ve see OT available for 30 days & for 7 days. MDE was available at my 60 days, but not often after that. There doesn’t seem to be much consistency at all. A few times, it seemed like there was more availability on MDE & less on OT, then a few days later, that would reverse. We just ate there yesterday & as our trip got closer, OT seemed to have much more availability. So just keep checking both. Good luck!

Thank you! Yeah I noticed a good amount of open times for 30 days out on OT, but nothing at all on MDE - gotta check both. I have a feeling we’ll get in but I’m going to have to work at it! A Disney challenge I’m always ready to accept!

We had dinner at CBS yesterday. Made the 6 pm reservation on OT. Seated at 6:20 in the main dining room, in the row right next to the carousel. It took more than 5 minutes for the server to come over. She chatted about the restaurant a few minutes & took our drink orders. It was several minutes til she was back with the drinks. Husband had lemonade, I had iced tea. Both were average. By this time we had been seated at least 20 minutes & we put in our orders. The menu on the Disney & OT sites is the lunch menu. The dinner menu has all the entrees originally posted, including the steak & chicken picatta.

We both had French onion soup with half baguette. The soup was delicious & I could probably live on just that baguette. It was sooo good. The outside was crispy but not hard & the inside was almost melt in your mouth soft. I should have paid more attention to how long it took from ordering to receiving courses but I didn’t think of it. But it was at least 10 - 15 minutes till the soup came from when we ordered.

We were done for several minutes before the server was back to clear the soup plates. Again, there was a wait for the next course. Husband had the steak frites & I had the salmon. Both were very good. Husband thought his food could have been a little hotter. My salmon was a little cool in the middle, but it was cooked medium so that temperature wasn’t bad. The portions were very big, neither of us finished our entrees. Again, we were probably done for 10- 15 minutes before the server came back to ask about dessert. Luckily the dessert menu was given when we were seated & left on the table through out dinner, so we didn’t have to wait for a menu. We ordered coffee & a Christmas cake to share.

We were both a bit disappointed in the cake, the filling was a light orange cream which was very tasty & the best part of the cake. The actual chocolate cake was pretty forgettable. Truthfully we get better actual chocolate cake at 1 of our local supermarkets. The cake is decorated with what is described as a red sugar bow. I ate that piece & I have to say…. It was like chewing hard, tasteless wax. If anyone has ever had those little small sugary filled wax pop bottle things when you were a kid, the red bow was like the wax bottle part, but harder. Awful!

We did finish the cake… coz, it was $23, lol. Once we were done, we waited another 10 minutes for the server to come, then probably another 10 minutes to finalize the bill & get our receipt. We didn’t leave until 8:35 after using the rest rooms & taking a few photos. So 2 + hours for the meal. They do take the Disney Visa discount. I had pulled out my card when we ordered the dessert & mentioned to the server to take the card to do the bill while we ate dessert. I probably wasn’t explicit enough because she didn’t take it til we were done. I don’t know if that’s policy or just didn’t make it clear I wanted to expedite things.

We had hoped to go to studios after to see the holiday projections on ToT, but we were too late for that. We had been up super early for a 5 am flight, so once we sat & relaxed, we were OK with the slow pace. In the future, we would probably come here for a lighter lunch with the soup & baguette instead of 3 courses. And we’ll make it much clearer if we want the meal to move along quicker.

One other thing, there was a question about having less people than the OT reservation was made for. Our reservation was for 4 people, but we were only 2. I just said that when we checked in. The hostess just said OK as she checked us in. No charge for the extra 2 & no further comment was made.

Tried the cake bake shop red velvet, Mary Antoinette and famous chocolate cake. The red velvet with chocolate chips is great. Chocolate cake is similar to STK71 (prefer that, although texture is better at cake bake). Mary Antoinette exceeded expectations. It’s a burst of rose and vanilla custard flavors. Millionaire cake will be back Jan 8
