Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

MDE, current android version, is only showing the bakery, not the restaurant. Check open table. Call or email the restaurant
Are you using the Map or did you use the Search feature in the MDE app?

I'm only seeing the bakery, not the restaurant
When I use the Search feature in MDE on an iPhone I see all 3 options: Bakery, Rose of Gold Afternoon Tea, and Restaurant.

Not me. I've been a "no way in hell" since the start and still am. I think these ridiculous prices set a bad precedent for other Disney restaurants, that, if CBS does well, will start thinking "well, maybe we can push our prices just a liiiitttle biiit higher....".
You don’t think thats already happening? The prices of most of the buffets and character meals I find ridiculous and then there are entire parks (Okay, 1-MK) that no matter what they are charging isn’t worth it from my POV.
Finally there are the CL offerings that are definitely a joke on the buyer ( looking at you, Poly).

Using the map then listing dining.

Disney's IT in action. Restaurant isn't fully integrated into the app

I see both on the Boardwalk map using an iPhone so looks like a Android MDE issue. When was the Android app last updated?

Dave

I've tried the app and the website. The app doesn't show anything for me.
Mde website loads the page but is the same as posted above. I just updated the app ( android)
Hopefully that means it won't be long until the reservations are on there.

Obviously it's happening already. That's implied and I didn't think I needed to mention that in some disclaimer. My point was that this place could make it worse.

This is easily the most expensive restaurant now at WDW that isn't a buffet, character dining, or prix fixe. Comparing any of those to CBS is apples to oranges.

Ok I ate at Cake Bake last week and figured I'd come and report back.

I really wasn't sure what to expect going in except that the atmosphere is really pretty and the food is expensive.

Well I have to say that I've been converted. Yes, it is pricy, but the food was delicious and the portions are HUGE. I had a cup of the gumbo, the shrimp poboy, and then shared a slice of the red velvet cake with my daughter. I honestly could have shared the whole meal and still had food leftover, so with that considered, I don't think the prices are as bad as they seem at first.

It was my daughter's birthday and they did the little glitter ceremony with the story about the dragon and it was cute. The cake was also very good and did not taste freezer burnt, however, I wasn't really a fan of the icing. I think most people would probably love the icing because it was very light and more like a whipped icing than true buttercream, but I actually prefer a buttercream. Basically, if you like Publix cakes, you'll love this because the icing is similar.

Overall, I probably wouldn't eat here every trip but for a special meal, I will definitely be back.

Do you think they should go prix fixe? Reduce the cake size by 2/3.

It's very similar to a character meal. The atmosphere commands a price premium. A photo opp. Guests pay a premium to dine with characters, while eating average food. Will guests pay a similar premium to eat better food in an elegant setting?

I just checked Russian Tea Room in NYC - $145pp. We tried it about 10 years ago and iirc was around $75 then.

The ‘Royal’ is $160pp.

We’re visiting WDW next week. Not really any room left in our schedule to book this, and anyway DH was put off by the $36 cocktails miraculously dropping to $20 after the online backlash. Kinda made him wary which I can understand.

We are returning in Feb for a couples trip and I’m booking CBS for us. 😜 Overall it is impressive. I plan to look at which selections seem worth the cost before getting there. Proactively make sure we don’t choose the things more likely to disappoint at their price point. I don’t love needing to do that… but it’s not an uncommon part of WDW or business today.

To be fair, I wouldn't pay $145 for that unless alcohol was included or the servings were unlimited, but the menu is definitely far more impressive to me than CBS.

I just checked my local Afternoon Tea spot and they charge $45/adult $25/child 8 and under. GF bread and pastry substitutes available with a weeks notice and $2 upcharge. I live near a mid size but growing city, I expect this is the average starting point. Is the location and atmosphere of CBS worth double the cost? That's going to be a personal decision but considering what the Grand Floridian used to charge and what Four Seasons is charging? Not in my mind.

Aww… I just looked up our favorite Tea Room in Cape May and it closed :( Last time we went (post-Covid) it was still under $20 per person for the full service as family of 4. Gonna miss that one! It was in the E. Physick Estate Carriage House.IMG_1036.png

I don't understand the comparison to the Four Seasons, Ritz, NYC, etc..

This is her restaurant and she's allowed to charge whatever she wants. Why can't she charge similar prices as the big establishments? If she doesn't deliver then she loses her patrons.

Of course she can charge whatever she wants. Just like I can say “she’s charging too much”. Ultimately, the market will sort out who is right or wrong. I promise you this. If she’s still open at the Boardwalk 2 years from now and the prices haven’t gone down, I will buy you a coffee from here as acknowledgment that you were right, and I was wrong. I’d say a piece of cake, but it could be 100 bucks a slice by then.
