Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

We tried this morning. We wanted to go for It first coffee cake and coffee. We were told we couldn’t park without an adr. We said we were gonna go to the bakery. We were told to go to Disney Springs and take a bus back to the boardwalk. We went to Celebration for breakfast.

We returned late last night from a stay at the BWV. There was a swirl of activity around the CBS during our week there. While we could not fit a restaurant meal into our plans, we were among the first "official" customers Thursday morning, and we returned Saturday afternoon. I did not take any pictures sadly (and I usually always do!!).

We tried the PSL and Coconut lattes, both very tasty and I felt reasonably priced. We purchased a chocolate chip cookie and the Marie Antoinette Macaron (so $43 and change lol). The cookie was good, not great. The Macaron was amazing. I loved it! We received great service and a cute little to go bag.

Saturday we stopped again. Long line in the sun but we decided to tough it out lol. Two of us waited out of our group of eight.

We waited about 20 minutes. Strangely they made everyone stand in the sun outside, but once inside only a two groups were waiting. Only one side was open for ordering and purchasing (there is one line but splits into two sides much like Les Halles).

We purchased an assortment of items, spending $90 (I purchased an ink pen! for $5 :)). We did not receive a bag for our goods this time. I had two large boxes, two small boxes, a bagged brownie and a pen to balance as we walked down the very hot boardwalk to meet family in our villa. There were bags by the check out.

We tried the following:
A GF brownie, that came in a little gold pan. This was dry and more than half was tossed.

A four pack of macaron's (we purchased two packs). I hate to say this but they too were dry with an almost chalky texture. The birthday cake one was the best of the four. I will say I like the Les Halles macrons better.

We also got the key lime pie and the Millionaire cake.
The key lime pie was airy and fluffy, not your typical key lime. It was good. The next day we tried a little of the left overs and it was not good at all. Definitely eat the day you purchase. I would try the lemon bar next time.

The millionaire cake was good, not great though. Everyone in my group felt the cake was a strange combination of dry and thick. The frosting to cake ratio was off also. The shortbread cookie crumbles were nice. It is very very rich so a few bites go a long way. I would like to try the lighter flavor cakes should we return.

For the record I really really really wanted to like the CBS. I truly want it to succeed. I think it is very pretty, the service is great but the baked items are not as good as I hoped they would be. The stand out is the Marie Antoinette macaron.

On a happy note... I did get to meet and see a lot of Disney vloggers! My favorite the Theme Park Foodies were so sweet.

Hope everyone who wants to go enjoys their experience.

Well that is quite disappointing. I am sorry that happened to you. Not sure that endears people to try the place, or even return. Hopefully you had a good breakfast in Celebration! :)

That is normal at the BW in the morning due to guests wanting to park there and enter the Epcot IG. It is the same at the YC / BC. You could park at DHS if you are an on-site guest for free and take Friendship boat, walk or take the Skyliner to Epcot IG and then walk back to CBS.

Just to confirm since I know nothing about baking or gluten free diets but we’re all the options you listed here gluten free versions or just the brownie you called out?

They have a nice sized GF menu. It’s listed at WDW and various blogs.

Understood just was wondering if the review was of the standard items or gluten free versions of them. Seems like a lot of the review highlighted items tasting dry. I have limited experience with them but felt lot of gluten free versions of deserts I’ve tried come across as dry so was curious if they may have been gluten free version.

Just to add to the great response by @snacks you can purchase by the slice or even get a whole cake to go. Also as a reminder that the cakes are made fresh daily and don't have any preservatives so don't expect to keep them around for a week.

A CM working there said cakes are baked in a factory approx. 30 miles away and are frozen. So while yes, baked fresh, they may not be that fresh when served. Which may also explain why some items aren't tasting good the next day. I have also read accounts where some (not all) slices tasted like they had freezer burn.
Could be they are still working out the kinks. I will still give it a try, but I am not going in with high expectations (I don't mind paying the prices, however I better get phenomenal food and drinks for those prices).

Freezer burn is not really found in the modern commercial kitchen since they are required by law and or regulations to wrap frozen foods in a manner not consistent with freezer burn. Which is one of the reasons vacuum sealing has become so prevalent. Personally, I suspect that if certain baked goods taste dry it would be due to the recipe or not following the method properly. As for drying out faster that’s the lack of preservatives which I think is a good thing.

Tim Tracker reviewed the gluten free mint and it’s moist and delicious

I’m not a big dessert girl, but I definitely want to try that, and also the key lime pie. I love how they describe all the flavors and attributes of the baked goods. It really helps people get an idea of what they might like best before spending that much money.

Ewww Frozen? That’s not good at all

Unfortunately, we're not coming until a few days before Christmas so the place will probably be busy. We're staying at BWI so I will stop by as much as I can. :)
