Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

This place is frilly/lacy/white/fancy decor with glitter and boring-sounding food. It's not Cinderella's castle, the Beast's castle, or a space station. What exactly is the "experience" here? Snooty tea-time with Grandma?

I just don't get it. Still a hard pass for me. But then, I'm a guy. Maybe that's the problem.
Yes, at least at the Indiana eateries, the decor was a bit expected, and gosh knows I’ll admit the glitter back story and presentation is hokey ( pixie leavings from the night before = unicorn poop 👀?) but I’d still have no problem doing a snooty teatime since I am the Grandma😂.

This reminds me of the opposite of Shula’s (menus printed on footballs, panoramic photos of muddy men??) which the man knew better than to book an ADR that included me😉.

Yes. totally agree. Someone described this place earlier in this thread as "hyperfeminine". Which is probably a big part of why I just don't get it....

Exactly! You're a guy! You'll never understand why millions of toddlers and little girls spend countless hours playing tea time, or why adult women take hours to consume the tiny finger foods at tea services.

The men in our family can accompany us to this place for full meals, but they're not allowed excused from the afternoon tea.

It’s definitely a girly-girl thing, lol. My husband doesn’t get it either but the ladies of the family love it. Not a problem. Women are a mystery, l guess! :lmao:

But that's apples to oranges as far as clientele. I don't see many people who traveled to the Boardwalk for ESPN being the same people who travel there for this place.

The only similarity between these places is the location. Maybe that's a good thing for CBS that it will likely be different people?
I think it would be nice if a more masculine restaurant went in where BRG used to be. The family could go to the BW, then split if necessary into the afternoon tea group and the afternoon game group. Something for everyone! I don’t necessarily think it has to be a sports bar, but it wouldn’t hurt if there were a bar with a few TVs as part of the restaurant. I always thought that ESPN and BRG must have had similar demographics and it probably hurt both locations as far as the number of guests dining in each. I hope CBS is a success and I hope whatever goes in where BRG is also a success. The BW used to have a lot of energy and a nice vibe when both clubs were open, the restaurants were busy, and the outside entertainment was worth watching. It’s just a shadow of what it used to be and that’s a shame.

But the ESPN food was horrible. Overpriced for what you got and terrible. We went once and never again. I'm not saying that I don't think the food prices at CBS aren't insanely high but I'd rather pay high prices for food that I is good (which hopefully it is) than overpay for food I can't finish because it's awful even if it costs less.

Their burgers and finger foods were just like every other sports bar around imo.

It's a sports bar, it's not supposed to be fine cuisine.

Honest to goodness, I don't understand why this Cake Stand is a big deal. Give me nachos any day of the week over an expensive piece of cake. ESPN was more about the theme, the memorabilia, sports of TVs, a seat at the bar and relaxation. The chardonnay was mainstream fare with Sam Adams or Yuengling always on tap at a reasonable price. We were after a break from the sun, a light bite and some respite in a cool themed atmosphere.

With Flying Fish and that Italian place, I don't see why the Boardwalk needs another expensive TS desert station. Boardwalk needs a decent bar. All they have is Bellevue and Leaping Libations.

Don’t forget Abracadabar, which is very cool but low capacity and not an Average Joe kind of place.

My husband would sometimes head over to ESPN for a beer while the rest of us shopped around Epcot WS, and we’d meet him there afterward. One time I suggested ordering some food because we were all hungry. He said “Not here because the food stinks,” but he used a different word . Still, it was a great spot for him to hang out while he waited for us and that made us all happier .

Edited to add: For a snack we liked the Nachos and beer flights at Big River. Fun times.

Give me a slice of chocolate cake any day over nachos and it’s not even close.

Nachos and chocolate cake. Two of my favorite things. But I'd want them To Go. I don't need a football game on in the background or a fancy environment.

Again, please lower the temperature on the discussions on this thread! Please stay focused on the topic - The Cake Bake Shop at Walt Disney World. Avoid making personal attacks!

I enjoy all the things on vacation! Nachos & beer, Champagne & a macaron, a good football game & a burger, calamari & wine, sitting on the Boardwalk people watching. Cake Bake sounds so fun for a girly-girl day. I hope it’s open in a week when I’m there because I can’t wait to try it. The next day it might be a Baseline with a pretzel, lol. I’m an equal opportunity junk snacker.

Those cake slices look way too huge for me though for one dessert. I would definitely be getting that to go and eating it over several days. Glad they will have a take out shop, especially for folks who don’t want to go in the fancy restaurant.

Prices aside, I just don't see CBS filling a pressing "need" on the Boardwalk other than offering a sit down lunch. I can only hope that BRG space will eventually fill that need with a breakfast/lunch/dinner/late-night quick service venue. If done correctly, it could easily draw from all of the Crescent Lake resorts. Something Boardwalk beachy themed serving small pails of shrimp fried, grilled or boiled, fried fish fingers, chicken strips fried or grilled skewers. Same proteins offered as tacos. Smash burger sliders and grilled cheese sammies. Sides of fries, marinated slaw, potato salad, corn, grilled veggie skewers, and fruit parfaits. Have picnic tables inside and out on the boardwalk.
