I know that this isn't Disney travel related but I need tips and there are so many knowledgeable people here.

My brother-in-law is deployed to Egypt and has to book a flight for his leave in July. Any tips on getting this for less than $1000?

A lot of carriers offer discounted tickets to deployed military on leave, but you have to call to book. So first figure out which carriers could even service that routing, then call them directly. He'll need his military ID and leave papers on him when he checks in for the flight.

There are no US-based carriers that fly into Cairo. The only way he can buy a ticket from a US carrier on this route is to take a code-share flight with an airline that is partnered with a US carrier. The best bets this way are probably United through Frankfurt via Lufthansa, or Northwest through Amsterdam via KLM. It is possible to do the entire route on British Airways, but I'd be surprised if BA would offer any discounts to US service members.

The tricky part of connecting through Europe is that July is peak tourism season from the US-Europe, so that leg alone will often cost nearly $1000 at that time of the year.

If the military discount approach doesn't work, the next option is a charter through a bucket shop (aka air consolidator.)
