OK, we had dinner here a few days ago and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We made the mistake of dressing up for the occasion and stood out like a sore thumb, but the kids had a wonderful time. These character dinners are really the only chance you get for a photo op, autograph or 1 on 1 interaction so from that standpoint it was well worth it.

The food and service on the other hand were sub par. The restaurant was overcrowded, uncomfortably hot and the quality of food IMO for what you pay is not that good a deal. Again, you arent their for the meal but for the entertainment an goofy alone was worth the money spent on dinner.

It all started out on such a high note, the mushroom entree I had was fabulous, I am still craving it! Then the main course, a tiny steak with a side of french fries. While the steak was good, a better caliber side dish than french fries should be offered. The deserts, while looking delectible were not as tasty as expected in fact the desert that consisted of fruit and a chocolate sauce caused a severe food allergy with one of our party that had never had any type of reaction before and ended her night early.

In all though its hard not to recommend a character meal, I think I would choose the breakfast next time though, I believe the prices are more reasonable and its really about letting the tykes get their chance to hug/meet and greet and interact with the characters.

Cafe Mickey is one of our favourites, we always have a good time and we love the food. :goodvibes

Thanks for your review. :) I love Cafe Mickey :love:we have only been the once but the food was fab. :goodvibes I am trying to squeeze in a visit this trip but don't think we will be able to manage it. :sad2:

What a shame your friend was ill ~ I hope she felt better the next day and it didn't spoil her holiday too much.

We love Cafe Mickey - the character interaction there is so good and DD always has a fantastic time! :thumbsup2

It was worth it for the characters alone and goofy put on a great show. It was so good I started clapping when it was time for the characters to leave and then everyone else caught on and started clapping wich led to goofy staying and putting on a show wich led to more applause so goofy started playing both sides of the restaurant against each other over who could applaud the loudest, I can only imagine what the people downstairs thought as it got loud! I would do a character dinner again in a heartbeat but with lowered expectations on the food/service and go mainly for the fun.

Hi -

we too loved the characters but weren't as impressed by the food at Cafe Mickey. We'd recommend Inventions every time for great food and characters. Some people seem to find it expensive, but we didn't find the total bill was that much more than Cafe Mickey.

Loved Cafe Mickey at our visit in March, I too has steak, but chose the Simba's Special - served with baked potato topped with sour cream, cheese and bacon accompanied with salad and onion rings (it is more expensive but I didn't want fries either and the menu does clearly state the meal acompaniements).
I'd highly recommend Captain Hook's Crème Brûlée, wonderful dessert and the Cosmopolitan cocktail, to die for.

The only complaint we had about our meal was that my eldest DS ate from the children's menu and the meal was too small for him, I have to say that this was echoed throughout most of the restaurants with only the Blue Lagoon offering a teenager's menu, so well done to them :thumbsup2 although I can't understand why the others don't offer it. You wouldn't expect a 5 year old to eat the same as a 12 year old at home and the adult meals are far too big.

We also had the Birthday Cake here for my younger DS, while I wouldn't rave about the cake, I'd book it again for the experience alone, his face was a picture and he was lucky enough to have Mickey Mouse with him to blow out the candles - superb

I don't know if it has only just started doing it, but I noticed on the DLP Food Guide site that Walt's has a couple of teenager meals on its menu.

We ate at Cafe Mickeys on Thursday night (27th July) and were pretty disappointed. We've been there several times before and had a great time so we know it can be good. The food was mediocre and we only had a handful of characters. Of course it was very hot, but this is a 'Character Dinner' after all. My youngest DD had the birthday cake surprise which was very good because she had Pluto and Minnie dancing with her.

However I would recommend going for the Character Breakfast at Cafe Mickeys, which is always good fun, and have a dinner at Inventions - the buffet is amazing!

Shame that Cafe Mickey's was not up to your previous visits :confused3

We had a meal at Cafe Mickey's last Wednesday (26th July), the food was wonderful (and plenty of it), lots of characters too.

We celebrated my daughter's 21st there and surprised her with a cake, highlight of her visit was dancing with Goofy.

We thought that to - maybe it was because it was so busy and we had to sit upstairs which we haven't done before.

The cake bit was still good though (very tasty :goodvibes ).

It won't put us off and no doubt we'll be back at some point - fairly soon if my DH has anything to do with it!!

What a wonderful way to celebrate her 21st, must celebrate my 21st there too! ;) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hope the rest of your trip was as good too! :Pinkbounc

thanks for your review, we have cafe mickey booked for our first night when we go next month

We were there last Monday night and it was one of the highlights of our trip! We were there quite late, and Mickey and Tigger played with my little guy for about 15 minutes! Tigger kept messing up my hair, which my little guy thought was the funniest thing ever. Then another kid gave them one of those laser pens, so they played around with that for a bit. My kid doesn't like cats, so he asked Mickey if he liked them, and Mickey waved his hand to say so-so and pointed at Tigger. We got some amazing photos - I think we got so long with them as there was hardly anyone left upstairs at closing time. My kid nows thinks Mickey is great, and was delighted when he waved at him in the parade a few days later! :cool1:

sounds like you had a great time and lots of happy memories.

Tribus121's wife, we will be going to Chef Mickey's for our first breakfast on September 12th. Sounds like we will have a blast. I know that DD4 will. I just hope that she will eat some food while there. She doesn't eat much when she gets excited and what not.

My kids didn't eat much whilst the characters were there - they managed to scoff their food down in between each character coming to our table.

It's great and you'll have a fab time!
