Cafe Mickey - worth it?

I'm going to DLRP in 2 weeks time with DH (CAN NOT wait!!!! ) and we are debating a meal at Cafe Mickey and wondered if anyone else has done it, has any tips/advice/info about it?

I'm really keen to go as the parks close at 6pm which I'm feeling pretty gutted about (been loads of times but only in peak season so never been when it's early closing and no fireworks ) and thought this could be a good way to prolong the Disney magic on that day (as we can only manage 1 day this time).

I've read mixed reviews but generally the consensus seems to be that it's a great atmosphere with decent food (happy days!) and that it's a little on the pricey side but not too bad by Disney standards which seems fair enough. Is this about right? Is it worth going for it (we don't have children, it's just us 2 'big' kids).

Also - I read that it's best to make a reservation (want to try and do that tonight) but that there are still often long queues. Anyone had this experience? I was thinking of trying to book for about 8pm so we had time to leaisurely make our way out of the park have a wander around the village and then eat. Is this too late?

I'm not sure what happens when the park closes at 6pm - I know that when the fireworks are on and it closes at 11pm it usually takes quite a while after the official closing time to actually get out (and the shops stay open). Is this the same when it shuts at 6pm? I don't want to rush out of the Park as want to grab every last little minute I can lol!

Any advice on best time to book a table (or IF to book a table) at Cafe Mickey would be most appreciated!!

Cafe Mickey is great for character interaction - the food is edible, and doesn't have to be expensive (you can share pizza, starters etc if you like). Definitely book in advance, and yes, I have booked before and still been in a queue with others who had also booked in advance, for about 20 minutes. However, if we hadn't booked, we wouldn't have been eating there at all, as folk with no reservations were just getting turned away.

8pm will be fine for your plans - yes, its the same deal whatever time the park closes, the shops stay open on your way down Main St at park closing time for a while etc etc.

I was looking at the set menu for 30euros (which didn't seem bad for 3 courses?!) but hadn't thought of sharing starters etc. hmmm...

Okies will maybe plan to book for 8pm but be prepared to wait a bit longer...

Anyone else been? Liked it? Hated it?

We love it, we used to eat there before we became parents, now we have 2 children who love eating there too!

I recommend it as like you say the park closes early although for this reason expect it to be VERY busy. Another option is Inventions which we love its more expensive than Cafe Mickey but its all you can eat and we found the charatcer kinteraction there much better and wasn't half as busy, when weve been anyway

I ALWAYS visit Café Mickey when I goto DLP... It just isn't a Disney trip without it!!

The food, I find, is lovely - and I have NEVER had a bad meal in there! It may be a little dearer than other places, but it is worth it for the atmosphere!

Always book in advance! When I phone and book my place - I ask for a seat upstairs by the window. That way I get to look across Lake Disney all lit up in the evening (STUNNING sight to see) and I am also away from other tables in the restaurant!

I am in my 20's and friends and I love it there! The character interaction is priceless... I remember when I was there last and my friend was half way through her desert (consisting of melted chocolate) - then Gideon, from Pinocchio, came over - took her spoon and fed her the chocolate until he got bored and decided to wipe it across her face! We had such a fabulous time laughing and playing with the characters and the age factor never seemed to matter at all!

There were couples there ranging from their 20's, 30's, 40's and even elderly - and everybody was in good spirits enjoying the Disney Magic!

In answer to your question re. the queuing, even though I had a reservation I do still have to queue with the other "reservationees". And you will need the reservation in order to get in because I saw so many people without one getting turned away...

Hi,
I love this restaurant for the character interaction, to be honest i can't really remember what the food was like ( i was too busy getting excited about the characters coming to our table lol) What i do remember was that it was nice but not as nice as Annette's diner. We have been here a few times once with just adults and then a few times with my dd.
I would definitely recommend to book ahead as the last time we went was in September and we arrived on the Monday hoping to get a table for the next night but could not get in until Thursday, when we arrived for our time we still had to wait about 15 minutes for a table.
I have booked a table and a birthday cake for my dd 4th birthday in November this year at cafe Mickey purely for the character interaction for her.

Remember to ask for a table upstairs by a window if possible! Un table en-haut pres d'une fenetre !

I much prefer upstairs to downstairs, but that is personal preference...

We love cafe mickey and eat here everytime we visit dlrp.I agree that the best seating is upstairs by the windows,its stunning at night to look over the lake and even better in the summer because the windows are open and you can go out on the balcony.The charector interaction is great especially if they are dancing around the tables when the music is turned up!! my only bug bare is the same as with most of the charecter restaurants,the children tend to follow them around so even if they are at your table there are other kids trying to get their attention but most of them are quite good and will still focus on your table.We usually tend to make reservations for around 6-7pm as this is when the parks close after these times it tends to be really busy,the latest reservation we have had there was 7.30pm and we were still there at 11.30pm eating because it was so busy the service was really slow so if you have kids it might be worth bearing in mind that you could be there a while if its busy,although the plus side to this is that the restaurant will be emptying and the charecters give you more attention.The last time we were there we ended up being one of only a handfull of tables left and we had tigger trying to feed my daughter because she was too tired to eat,pluto and tigger play fighting and giving each other piggybacks around our table and tigger doing some very skilled break dancing!! You will love it there with out a doubt.

Cafe Mickey is a lot of fun and the food isn't too bad. The service was very slow, but the characters were great Have fun.

Inventions is in the Disneyland Hotel. Its a character buffet - expensive but definitely worth it as it has the most wonderful food

Well we went to Cafe Mickey and it was BRILLIANT!!!! Definitely the best night of our holiday.

We saw loads of characters: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Captain Hook, Smee, Rafiki, Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, Tigger, Eeyore. They were brillinat with us (we were worried as we were 2 adults with no children that they wouldn't want to play with us but they did!).

There was always at least one (but usually 2 or 3) characters out at a time and they were really good at spending time at each table. It was unbelievably good fun and we would definitely do it again... and again... and again!!!

Funniest bit was Goofy and Minnie throwing stuff at each other the full length of the restaurant and then Goofy stealing Mickey's bow tie - Mickey was not a happy Mouse!!

It was brilliant so thanks for all the recommendations!!

Cafe Mickey is one of our favourites - I think we will be eating there twice next week. So obviously we think it is worth it!

We're planning on eating there for my Birthday too. Are lunchtimes still as good as evenings? For characters I mean.
