Just got notice that my Basic Cable bill is going up by $6.00 a month. It was expensive as it was for just Basic. I will have to cancel now being only on a fixed income. Not having kept up with whats going on in the Cable world. Can anyone advise how I can get some channels as the Food Channel, HGTV, TLC, Bravo and HLN not going through Cable. Any help is greatly appreciated. :confused3:confused3:confused3

You might try Hulu Plus. I think it costs about $10 a month or so. Also, check the websites for each channel, you may be able to watch some of the shows online as well.

Those are some of my favorite channels and the shows I watch aren't really offered anywhere it seems. Bravo will put some up here and there on their site but it is always so random. They have the same ones on hulu too.

Try calling the cable company and telling them you can't afford the new increase. They might give you a better deal and let you keep what you have. I do this every Jan and have had my bill lowered or features added every year.

Call and tell them you need to speak to a manager. I do it every year or whenever prices go up. I explain I can't afford it, but really want to keep the service.
I pay the "special" one time only new subscriber cost and have been for years.

Check out Comcast they are running a special for $10 a month here for cable for 12 months.

Only if OP's local cable provider is Comcast (believe it or not, there are other cable companies operating in cities around the U.S., such as Time Warner, Cox, Charter, and Cablevision).

Anyone interested in Hulu Plus may want to visit their website to ensure they have the networks/programs you are looking-for.

As Hulu is jointly-owned by ABC/Disney, NBC Universal, and Fox, there are many programs that you will not find, there (namely, just about anything on CBS).
