Anyone have one, two....... Well yesterday I saw a huge crowd at Wallmart, in the toys. All these ladies, trying to figure out witch one to buy. THEY ARE BACK.
They've been back for awhile now. I know we bought one for a birthday party that my son went to a couple years ago. I think why the huge crowd is that it is the 25th anniversary of Cabbage Patch Dolls. I seen them at Wal-Mart today for only $15.00. I still have mine from when they first came out 25 years ago minus the clothes and some hair
They have to be more than 25 years old! I had them in my classroom before I was married (and it's my 25th anniversary 2 weeks from today). I remember buying two and the craziness getting them. I had 'Terry' a little bald-headed baby that went home with the kids....and he was better dressed than a real baby! They kept adding to his 'suitcase'. I also remember one dad who refused to allow HIS boy to take the baby home. I also had a red headed pony-tailed 'Marigold'. She was mine and I never let her go to school. I wonder if she is still in the basement somewhere?
Has anyone ever been to the Cabbage Patch hospital in Cleveland Georgia? We took a trip with our 3, 4, and 5 year old in 1990 and again when our youngest was 5 in '99. It's out of the way, but free entrance and some fascinating information about the CPK. In '90, our youngest lost his favourite blanket (a pink Holly Hobbie) at the hotel just before we landed at the hospital. He bought 'Bart' and that saved the day! When we went in '99, the baby born that day was named after my daughter Shannah, but we couldn't afford to adopt her.
they HAVe to be older then 25 - I am 39 and I had one when I was about 8 or 9 - my mom waited in line ups to get me one for Christmas one year. I still have my 2 - hard to believe they are over 30 years old!!
The anniversary dolls are $15 at Walmart, since they are from the 2008 marketing special.
Xavier Roberts designed the original concept for Cabbage Patch dolls (called Little People) back in 1978. In very late 1982, early 1983, there was a change in the company (I think Xavier sold his invention, been a while since I read the story) - and thus the reason why 2008 marked the 25th anniversary.
Bottom line, if you have a CBK who is pre-1983 - those are considered the originals. Post 1983, those are the "new" adoptable design. And of course, anything from the 2000's is just a remake.
And yes, I still have my "CPK" Colleen and "Premie" Aaron hanging around...
I have an original....his name is Neville and he is one of the bald ones. He actually belonged to my friends mother who was a doll collector. I don't remember how he came into my hands. I do remember that my friend and I thought it would be fun to hang him in our lockers at school. Anyway...he has had an interesting life. Many years in a box and then my kids have each had him to play with for a while. Each time my girls have said that they were finished with him and want to put him in the Goodwill pile I just can't let him go. Now he sits in the chair in my bedroom....all alone.
