We haven't cruised on Disney in 4 years so I am wondering about the buffet area. Can you tell me about the changes from the former buffet? I have been reading how chaotic it is since it is free flowing. We are on the Wonder in June to Alaska. Normally we enjoy the buffet.

Cabanas on the Wonder has been changed to stations, like those on the other ships. The only time I found it chaotic was during embarkation lunch, before 1:30. After 1:30 was fine and so were the other breakfats and lunch times.

You just have a lot of first time cruisers that think it is one big buffet line and have to start at one end and go to the other which slows it down.

Seriously, it was complete disorder and confusion, or was it just busy?

Not complete disorder, but definitely too many people lined up at the first station when other stations had the same offerings. I think there were a lot of first time cruisers who weren't quite sure what to do.

We were on in December and also found embarkation lunch to be nutty but that was more from people struggling with luggage (why would you try to drag your carry on through a buffet line???) or with kids. If you are familiar with the buffets we found that we could dash in and out and avoid a lot of the chaos.

So there was complete disorder and confusion; however, due to your familiarity with the process, you were able to avoid it?

That was basically our experience. We left all the confused people huddled up at the first station to wait in their "line" and just went to the unoccupied stations. I got asked a few times by people "so you're just going to jump the line?" I just told them yeah, because there is no "line" and you are supposed to skip around to keep things flowing. They always responded oh really? Thanks I didn't know or something like that. No big deal.

Fyi: Triton's now serves a sit down waitress service lunch on the first day. It's quite and not as stressful as Cabanas.
Here is the menu.
