Cab or car rental?

First time DVCers headed down to SSR with the family and grandma. We're flying so we won't have a car. Grandma wants to go to the store rather than order food to be delivered (she wants to make dinners for DDs 3 and 6 most nights). :confused3 It looks like car rentals from the Swolphin run ~$65 for a day. Is it more cost effective to rent a car or just take a cab? I was thinking about going to the Publix SW of WDW in Kissimmee (~7 miles away, IIRC).

It depends on your other plans. IF that's all you need off property, I'd take a cab to and from the Winn Dixie on 535. You might consider a car for the entire time, you'll have other options and more flexibility but it does depend on your personal preferences.

You can get a Alamo rental from the Dolphin for around $40. Check out internet sites for discount codes.

There is a grocery store that is only a couple miles away from SSR. I believe its Winn Dixie so I would just get a cab if it was me.

If it's on a weekend that you'll be renting the car, I have found Enterprise to be very reasonable for a 1 day rental.

Thx for the 411. Our trip is 2/28-3/5...the rental would only be for a few hours on the Sunday we arrive to run to the store and back. Using ME and DI$ transportation the rest of the week. I'm just wondering if the hassle to travel over to the Swolphin is worth it to save a few $$$ (although I'm as frugal as they come). :) So is the Winn Dixie folks have mentioned the one east of SSR/OKW/DTD, or the one SW near the AK?

There is one just down from the crossroads. It's maybe a little over a mile from DDD. Walking over and taking a cab back is not out of the question. I would think a cab each way would be no more than the car and you'd avoid a lot of hassle. Maybe there's someone her on DIS there at the same time and you could coordinate a lift. I know I've done that a couple of times for members without cars in the past.
