CA Shows in July?

One of the greatest things about Disneyland has always been the entertainment. It makes me sad that they are cutting so much of it. Maybe they've been holding out on putting a new show in the Hyperion to see what would happen with the union stuff. Since it went through, they may decide not to bring back any shows, which is terrible. It damages their image IMO, but I'm not privy to the financial effects on the company. The parks are financially sound but the rest of the company has been struggling, I believe.

My daughter works in entertainment at Disney so this increases her pay, but what good is that for all of those who consequently lose their jobs?

Reducing the experience could also reduce the number of people who decide to renew MKs or take another trip to DLR. UGH.

You said it all, sista. I was pretty sure it was your daughter who worked there because I remember your posts about watching her interact with a child. I’m glad the performers will hopefully now be getting some newfound respect and their health and safety needs met. I’m just so bummed that it’s just another crutch for Disney execs to have to prolong decisions on live entertainment,” well, we don’t know the full impact of this development…blah…blah…blah”. I’m not a doomsayer thinking this is the end of live shows…I’m just saying now they can take more time, continuing to give us less value for same or more money. I guess we should just be glad Fantasmic is back :cool1:

Well said!! It's difficult to judge the financial decisions of Disney Co when it comes to the parks. I get that they rely on them for now to prop up the rest of the corporate enterprises and therefore must tread a careful path so they don't cut too much and kill the golden goose. But at the same time, it's so hard to remember all of the wonderful live entertainment that Disney has been famous for and see it slipping away...

I suppose in 5 years, a lot of people won't even remember Aladdin or Frozen etc etc.

That's cool that you remembered me posting about my DD

I hope it isn't all going by the wayside. I loved watching Animazement and Aladinn, and all the cool bands they used to have at Tomorrowland Terrace. Many things make Disneyland magical and far better than other parks, but I think the live entertainment really is one of the most important things that sets it apart from places like 6 flags that are just rides. (There are a million things that make Disneyland better, but you know what I mean.)

Yes! Things like the Dapper Dans -- we never actually stop to watch them, but the ambience they provide is unlike anything at any other park. Love the bands in NOS as well.

I also hope it's just a temporary pause, but Disney has made me slightly pessimistic with their cuts lately. I am still reeling over the loss of the Red Car Trolley Newsboys (years ago now). It was one of my favorite things to catch at DCA entertainment wise. I love that song "Suitcase and a Dream"...it was so perfect right in front of Carthay!

OMG…thanks for the memory! Had forgotten all about them! Now I wonder how many other “little joys” I’ve forgotten. But,yes, these are the things that set Disney apart and they must not lose them, otherwise it will become “just another theme park”…the very thing Walt wanted to avoid.

I so agree with all of the above! So many magical entertainment options have been a part of the Disney magic and it would not be the top-notch, gold-standard resort without them.

In my eyes I think Disneyland and DCA are whittling down entertainment because of money issues and I think the reason is because people want better entertainment and that's why they are getting rid of many shows and they want to make more interesting shows that will draw people into the parks but even with the return of Fantasmic Disneyland has one type of entertainment that they are focusing on and that is parades. Because Disneyland sees parades as a huge moneymaker because that's what draws loads of attendance and it's easy for them to hire singers dancers and marching bands because to them parades are huge hits in their eyes. Because a lot of people prefer parades to Broadway type shows and it's easy to bring children to watch a parade because the parades hold a child's attention very well. Because when you bring a child into a Disneyland show many children are bored by it and fall asleep easily. But when you have big attractions like The Golden Horseshoe you can see why they lose attendance because when they adopt a new image people will stop coming which in my eyes happened to The Golden Horseshoe once Billy Hill And The Hillbillies no longer appeared there and the retirement of the piano player it just wasn't the same. As to what's happening with Avengers Campus what I think what will happen to Doctor Strange is that once his show ends he will be a regular meet and greet character because that is what they do with characters and I think why the Guardians Of The Galaxy Dance-Off is not showing is because they will most likely do a meet and greet with Star Lord and Gamora instead of the show. But what about the Royal Theater in Fantasyland? Has there been any shows listed or are those shows gone for good too? But as for characters it will remain the same and people really don't have to worry about the characters no longer meeting and greeting guests because that's an iconic Disneyland tradition and if they chose to no longer do it anymore fans would be very upset
