But anways. I am going to Disneyland/CA Adventures June 5th and my sister REALLY wants to ride CA Screamin' I can go on Indiana Jones, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain RR, never on matterhorn or splash mountain, i can ride Pirates, jurassic park at universal studois. i hate drops because of that queasy feeling. but ill try it if its worth it. i know there 2 drops (major) and one loop. ive never been on a loop and how are the 2 drops? (the first 2) ive watched POVs on youtube over and over again and it looks simple but that drop where you slowly rise. im not so sure. im new on this site but i just wanted to make sure that i WILL live if i go on it! HELP!

when i see the drops i go :sad2:

Drops are intimidating aren't they ? That is the SINGLE reason I avoided any type of thrill ride or coaster most of my life. I would psyche myself out so much about that one part of the ride ( or multiple) depending. Fear is a healthy outlet , and it's perfectly rational to be afraid. I STILL struggle every damn time but I really do enjoy the fear and thrill of it all , and honestly had a past boyfriend not literally dragged me onto a coaster back in 1999 , I would probably still be on the ground watching.

The best advice I can give is to acknowledge your fears are real as well as the queasy feeling - definitely try motion sickness pills , they help many people. As for myself I find taking deep breaths as the drops happen lessens the feeling dramatically. Upside down loops are honestly not that bad they just look worse , that's my favorite part honestly and i'm terrified of heights.

Watching the videos is a great tool already. What I like is that the coaster just "takes off" instead of the slow crawl which makes the anticipation of that first drop worse. The drops seems extremely steep but honestly CA Screamin isn't that dramatic and it's a smooth fun ride to me. Take everything with a grain of salt but definitely try it at least once :)

I haven't ridden California Scream'n yet - I will on June 21st! But I can give you some help I think.

Loops feel exactly like doing a backward somersault. Just sit down, close your eyes and imagine your feet going over your head and back down. The sensation is quite exhilarating! If it's been many years since you've done a backward somersault than do a few if you can just to reacquaint yourself with the feeling. Doing them in a swimming pool is easier than on the ground if your not a kid anymore. Another option is to find one of those motion simulators at an arcade and do a few in it.

That bad stomach feeling you get on drops isn't necessarily something you'll always feel when going down hills. I felt it as a teenager and found screaming the best way to tolerate it. It didn't take too long before I no longer felt it. But, now that I'm approaching 50 it's starting to come back again. I plan to keep riding though, I'll just have to scream more ;) . They do call it California SCREAM'N!

YOU WILL LIVE!!:thumbsup2

I have been on it numerous times and it is a GREAT :hyper:coaster! When you get on it and you sit waiting for the launch up the first hill and down the other side you get excited because you hear the steam building up and you hear people right there on the dock saying things to you:listen:...when it launches you it gets you right in the tummy :woohoo:and the first drop is AWESOME!!! I love coasters and this one is spectacular! the loop is fun, the drops get you in your tummy but it is over so fast it is kind of sad!

If you can do other coasters then you can do this one...it is a very secure feeling coaster that is a BLAST! Why do you think there is always a line up for it?! It is a great ride :goodvibes GO FOR IT!!!:cool1:

I learned a long time ago how to avoid the queezy feeling. I really enjoy airplanes (mainly military fighters). After going on a few coasters I couldn't understand how fighter pilots didn't lose their lunch with all the crazy manuevers they make.

One of the things I learned is that in high-g situations they flex their stomach muscles and press in on their abdomen. This helps to push the blood flow back into the brain as the g-forces try to drain the blood from the brain.

I tried that whenever there was a drop or pushover and it works. Actually, as the PP said, screaming has a very similar effect. It's just very uncool for guys to do.

:cool1:

CS is one of my favorite coasters. Not too intense but intense enough to not feel like you're on a kiddie ride.

BTW, you won't get a queezy feeling on loops. Those have positive g's. You get them on drops and pushovers because those create negative g's. The stomach flex is supposed to work for positive g's but by flexing your stomach muscles and pressing in it keeps all the organs in place. The queezy feeling you get is from the internal organs moving around ever so slightly.

Try it. You'll like it!

It moves so fast that I don't think you have much time to be afraid-the loop is over before you know it and there is never a feeling that you're going to fall out and die :).

I took my 7 yr old son on Goofy's sky school and to me that was worse than Screaming. The problem with Gooys sky school is that its clunky and throws you around .. and then when you drop you are already shaken up etc.

Now I am a BIG chicken when it comes to the big rollers,, but screaming is so smooth and fast that its actually a better ride.... IMO.. I would most likely go on it again..

Plus I took my glasses off which means Im blind . that seemed to help a bit too.. lol

Have fun

I can go on Indiana Jones, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain RR, never on matterhorn ...

I've always found it interesting that Disney has a height requirement on the Matterhorn of 35", which is the average height for a 25-month old toddler.

I hate drops but the upside down I am fine. That said, I am fine with Screamin'. Some days, I will pass going on it but most I want to go on. I avoid the big drop coasters @ Great America or Magic Mtn. but Screamin, like others have said, is smooth and for some reason fine by me. Maybe it's because I know it is Disney. Oh and I sometimes will close my eyes in the loop. I like the idea of tightening the stomach muscles, I will have to try that one. It can't hurt. I will typically try something once unless it has a BIG drop.:crazy2:

If you are scared, ask to ride in the front your first time. That way you'll see everything as it is coming (which may or may not be a good thing) and you won't get too much whip lash (which also may or may not be a good thing).

I'm terrified of roller coasters - never really been on one.

I don't think I'll go on Screamin' this year but my DD7 wants to go sooooo badly. My DH will go with her but I'm scared *FOR* her :(

There are a few drops but if you can handle big thunder and space mountain I think you should be ok.

Laugh! My wife taught me just to start laughing during the coasters!

It works for me!:rotfl2:

Just remember that little kids go on these rides and have a great time. My 32 year old brother was a big chicken to go on screaming, and I found him a front seat video on You Tube which he played OVER and OVER and OVER, but it showed him how steep the drops were (Which arnt bad at all) and by the time he went on the vacation, yes he first stood watching the screamers take off, but he got on the ride and laughed the whole time. Screamin' is now his favorite ride.

Well would it be good to ride it at night? i heard its much more fun! ??:confused3

If you're nervous sit near the front. That way you'r half way down the drop before it "drops" the train. If you can handle Big Thunder Mountain, Screamin' will be fine.

I love this ride at night. Because it feels soooo much faster at night. But I guess a good thing about it at night time is when you are on the ride and going around some of the turns and you overlook the park, you dont see as much as you would during the day, and that eliminates some of the height aspects. But be prepared and dont go on before park closing because as much as I love this ride, the later you go on this ride at night time, Ive gone on when there is no music and going up that one slow climb makes it a bit eerie.
