Bye Bye Tomorrowland Speedway

Omg, that guidebar. Last year friends came with us to WDW, and I rode in a car with my friends 8 yr old daughter, who thought it was HILARIOUS to purposefully jerk the wheel hard left/hard right for the entire ride, laughing maniacally. I seriously considered child abuse. I agree the ride could use some serious updating and retheming, but don't know how easily WDW would trash the whole thing considering the ride is original to the park.

LOL,
I ride in the car in front of my family and as soon as I see that they're looking off at something and not paying attention I stop. They come putting along and "blam"! Cracks me up. I tried it last trip but they give me more room and watch me more closely... :(

lol. Fantastic!

This is the one ride I can still remember being too short to ride on the first time we were there. Huge, big, big tears!

Oooo futuristic cars without the smell of a gas station. I picture George Jetson's car. :thumbsup2

As long as Chevron is still the sponsor, gasoline powered go-karts aren't going anywhere.

I don't know which speeday you are talking about, but as of Mid February of this year I was transfered from WDW Transportation monorails to Tomorrowland Attractions - Speedway and have heard nothing of it going away. I have heard rumors of our queue being modified sometime in the future and possibly getting fastpass, but nothing set in stone or set date. Working out in the heat on the black top and dealing with the fumes I am for it being changed or modified and everytime there is lightning in the area we have to close to ride down until we get the all clear. As a CM we dont usually get advance news of things in the park, but I figure something affecting our attraction we work at going away I am sure we would hear as to prepare for cross training in another area.

What would really bring it up to date and futuristic is re-themeing it to Cars and replacing the track with a magnetic track. The cars can then run on these using magnetism versus gas.

This would eliminate the noise and the smell and would be great for the environment!! :goodvibes

If this were done, then the speedway would definitley fit tomorrowland.

Brilliant and true IMO! I was just there in Feb and I remember thinking that Cars is surprisingly absent from the Disney parks considering it's such a successful franchise. And they're certainly playing it up in CA. Would love to see them bring more Cars themed stuff to either MK or HS. When we were there, they were shutting down the meet 'n' greet area for Cars, which I also thought was odd given the popularity.

You know with the rumors of Cars Land coming to MGM,I don't think it will happen.
It doesn't fit with the theme too,What would be cool for them to change is the carts to space ships and hovercrafts.....

For whatever it's worth, if they ever decided to do anything new here, if you look at a satellite picture of the park the TLS is on a massive plot of land they could work with. Probably about half of the size of the new FLE. And if you extended outside of the railroad tracks like they did with Space and Splash mountains, there's even more room. As the park begins to run out of room for expansion, I suspect this area has to be one that they are looking at, especially since it runs up against potentially usable land outside the train tracks.

Weren't there rumors that they would be doing this at Disneyland? Using the Autopia plot as the next expansion site there?
