By 2030, how many (give a number) Disboarders do you believe will have become casual soccer fans due to Buzz Rules soccer threads? Have my threads actually changed opinions on the sport or helped anyone's knowledge on the sport grow? Or have my threads become just an annoyance overall? I'm not offended either way. I'm just curious on the overall feelings on them. :-)⚽🏟️🌎

I don't know. Just depends whether any of the soccer leagues are still in business. You have helped my understanding, but as we have discussed , there are still far too many thinks I don't understand.

Hopefully. It is the worlds sport after all. Let's also add that these athletes are on the pitch for 90+ minutes and other sports get time outs. Soccer (football) players are really the true athletes.

We are fans but until 2018 I had no clue what the World Cup was or that it was going on. I became a fan after my kids started playing and we started following a few teams.

Your threads are not an annoyance Buzz. :)

I’m going to say, maybe you can convince 5 people.
You’ve still got 7 years. You can do it!
I’m not going to be one of the 5 though. Lol.
Love this post! :lovestruc I’d never speak for anyone else - the number of potential soccer fans behind this keyboard is 0. Do carry on though, Buzz!:goodvibes

I guess I'm a casual soccer fan. So casual that I never think about soccer until someone makes a thread asking about soccer. And after I hit "Post Reply", I'll be back to pondering the big questions, such as "Why does Claussen make an apple-flavored gummy pickle?"

Made me smile, I can't say I am a fan of sports or that hours of my life have been won over into the pursuit of sports but your threads are pleasant so I tend to read them, so there's that :)

I still have hope that you two Canadians will become casual fans by the end of 2026.

This post made me smile. Who knows if you will become a fan by the end of 2026.

I'm not sure why it matters if others like something you like. I tried as my youngest son played soccer from ages 6-14. I never got enamored of the game. I enjoyed watching my son as he was super fast and fun to watch. We signed him up for soccer because of his unending energy. The child could run straight for the hour of the game and never want to be taken out for a break. In high school he switched to cross country running in the fall and track in the spring and that was the end of soccer for us.

Your enthusiasm of the sport is apparent. Enjoy!

Lacrosse all the way. Coming to the Olympics in 2028. Unfortunately the Native Americans who invented the sport will not be eligible to field a team.

It's not about others being as enthusiastic about the sport as I am. It was more of the thought that I wonder if those who never gave the sport a real chance recently ever decided to because of my threads. I feel that because it is the world's game, positive changes within the world can happen through the sport itself. But that only becomes more realistic when more people from the world's most populated and richest countries start to embrace the sport with participation and following the sport (with coherent understanding of the game) in some form watching their local club or national team. Soccer has started global movements, created peaceful moments in wartime, and has created the most opportunities for humans of all backgrounds than any other sport in history. Soccer fans in countries that don't embrace the sport often feel like oddballs when we talk about the sport to others or were often made fun of for liking the sport in general. Now that is starting to change at a slow pace. I'm not trying to force soccer onto anyone, I just wish that the Disboards would know the basics of the professional sport before the major events come to the USA/Canada (2024,2025,2026,2027, and 2028). National teams bring the world together and we could use a lot more of that.
