I just saw the following on the Member site and I don't think I've seen it posted here yet. So, FYI

To ensure facilities are maintained to Disney quality standards, portions of Disney's BoardWalk Resort will be undergoing building maintenance, which will extend to limited areas of Disney's BoardWalk Villas. Engineering Services Cast Members will be replacing sections of the porte cochere roof during March and segments of the piping system through July 2004. Work on the piping system will take place in the guest room building corridors and surrounding areas daily during the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. No work is planned to take place in Guest rooms. Please contact Member Services for more information.

It is news to me! Thanks for posting it here.

Just bumping to Page One for the evening crowd.

It probably will be a little disruptive since they say they are scheduling it for 9-5. But, it seems like it will be confined to just certain areas at a time so some folks may not even know it's being done.

Well, they certainly keep up on BWV! There was just major renovations to the outdoor siding and awnings and now they are working on pipes and the roof! I also love to hear this kind of news!

Piping system? Think is is liek water pipes? Does anyoen think water will be cut off in the guests rooms during thsoe hours?

(Keep thinking about our trip to DLP at Newport bay Club - had no hot water in a February! Those showers helped wake us up!)

The major renovations to the exterior were due to faulty materials provided by the contractor. I'm hoping that this work on the piping system is just regular maintenance and not another construction problem.

As long as Disney continues to maintain the resort at a top notch level in all aspects (which they have done very well in all the years I have been a member! ), why would it matter what the cause of the problem is? As long as they fix it in a thorough and timely manner, is really all that matters!

Does anyoen think it will enough of a nuisance for us to try to switch to anotehr resort?

Of course it's terrific they are fixing the problems. BWV owners were very lucky that the cost to correct the original problem was covered by Disney dealing with the contractor. Hopefully, they have resolved the construction problems so that BWV members will not see an increase in their capital reserves to cover future construction related problems. It sounds like this is not general upkeep work but something a little more detailed.

Actually, since members pay for upkeep, it matters greatly why a problem occurs, and who is responsible. Disney could have had members pay to reside the entire BWV, but did not - and went after the contractor who provided the bad materials in the first place. As a DVC owner, I appreciate any costs that Disney can pass on to the responsible party other than my dues! :)

Thanks for the heads up Pam - We will be at BWV for the first time in July and hope it won't be too bad...

Just a comment,
When we took the boat from MGM to Epcot in mid December, My wife and I said that it looks like our ;) BWV roof will need replacing soon. Especially on the Inn side. Glad to hear they're working on it.

Peace

Just spoke to MS and they advised that rooms facing the Porte Cochere roof will have a construction view and noise (during daylight hrs).

Does anyone know if the rooms facing the Porte Cochere roof are standard or preferred view??

Port Cochere is the front entrance, where you drop off luggage and get valet service right???? My guess is that they would consider that standard view if I am thinking about the right spot.

Well I hope some people are bothered by this and just cancel. I'm on the waitlist for 2 bdrm std view room.for our 1st day. Life will be so much easier if it comes through and don't have to change rooms.

So it appears if I have a boardwalk view I don't need to worry about the roof work, only the piping work...

I also appreciate any costs that Disney can pass on to the responsible party other than my dues! Since Disney has done this already with the siding problem, I am sure they will do the same with the piping problem costs if this is also due to a contractor's error. This was what I was trying to say, if it came out wrong, I am sorry.
I was at BWV many times during the huge siding renovations and BWV was very good about keeping the villas in the construction areas closed to guest so I am sure you will not have any problems in July. However if you are concerned I would call BW's general manager and speak to someone that has more reliable information than what you will get from people speculating on a discussion board.
