whats the difference between the board walk villas standard or preferred rooms? Thanks!:goodvibes

Standard overlooks the entrance or canal. Preferred overlooks the pool.

We are in standard now and see Epcot fireworks from the room.

You might search and see a previous thread that shows the layout of the resort with each view highlighted a different color.

& there is another catagory: preferred, BW view. where you wake up to something like this:

and go to sleep after watching this:

BW view can certainly be great, but ever since our first trip as DVC members in '99 when we used the extra points, we've opted for standard view and have been perfectly satisfied with the view (overlooking the bus stop with Illuminations fireworks visible) and getting to stay an extra night with the points saved over preferred view definitely makes sense for us.

I had a preferred view and I couldn't see the pool at all, just the corner of the building on my left and Swan/Dolphin towards the right. Just below me was a doorway coming out. At least with the standard view I had a big expanse of lawn in front of me. Based on my experience (which I admit is just once with preferred), I'd take standard over preferred.

Are the standard view units closer to the parking lot? DH says he would never stay at BWV again because it was such a long walk to the parking lot from our boardwalk view room.

i'm actually thankful that there are many ppl who prefer the lower point SV option. we've become addicted to BW view tho (since we go 2-3x a year, we do spend time in the room & especially on the balcony). we'll even change our vacation days if it's not available :cloud9:

& that's just another reason to love the BWVs: options!!:thumbsup2

Are you in a Studio, Ibr or 2br? What floor etc. Trying to get a lay of the land!

I used to do that too but then I booked a boardwalk view. It's addicting and hard to go back to standard.

Standard view are closer to the parking lot than boardwalk view. You can use the steps at the end of the building by the pond. The only time I have an issue with the long walk is when carrying groceries.

Ha! Someone who was actually near the elevators and didn't like the LONG walk to the parking lot. That's certainly a switch from the usual complaints.

Here is Granny's BWV map showing the location of the three booking categories:

Another difference, preferred view (non-Boardwalk) is relatively easy to get.

Standard View and Boardwalk View are each about 20% of the resort - 60% of the resort is Preferred View - one of the worst misnomers at WDW since as you can see from above, BWV fans prefer either Boardwalk View for the view or Standard View for the value to preferred view. That generally means that preferred view will be "what is left" and is often the only availability at seven months when non-BWV owners can book.

I have to chime in....unless something has changed. I stayed in the green (standard) area marked in Granny's photo but it was charged as preferred points. My view was of the valet parking lot primarily---did have view of canal and side view of TOT, but mostly overlooked valet parking lot as seen in Granny's pic. I marked our room with an "X" (approx---we were 3rd to 4th from end of hallway) in this photo. I called Front Desk and MS and was put on a 3-way call and they confirmed my room was "preferred". Maybe things have changed ?? View would have been fine for standard points, but we did not feel it was deserving of preferred points ( I usually suggest people request "pool view" if they have a preferred reservation) :

I think they did change those - there used to be some "standard view" rooms that were where the croquet lawn is now. When they removed that building and put in the lawn, those became preferred and the preferreds where you were became standards.

Thanks Crisi. This is good to know. I told them back in the summer of 2003 they needed to change it. They insisted, that since I had a view of the "canal" it was preferred. Yet people down the hall from me had the same view and were standard points that year. A mere 2-3 doors down from me was standard. I'll bet they got more complaints about it than just from us.

We had a studio room 3113. If you look on the map where the green line turns near the sidewalk, we were above that. I think we walked by 4 rooms to get to the stairs.

That's about riight, because 3123 would be the corner room. If your unit number is higher than 3123 (standard view) then you have turned the corner of the building and are facing the canal and valet parking lot.

Need some help...

That area is known as the "Village Green". The preferred pool/garden rooms in this area are only studios. 1 bedrooms or larger would be facing the pools or the Swan at the far end of the building.
