I'm in the beginning stages of planning for a trip next year to my home resort of BWV. We want a 2BR unit, and will book at the 11 month window. But, should I get a standard or preferred view? Is it worth saving the points on for a standard view? What are the views in each category? Thanks!

Hi, we have done both. With standard view, you will have a view of the valet parking/entrance to the Boardwalk, a lake with a fountain or if you have the longest walk to the end of the hall you could overlook the parking lot, tennis courts and the Tower of Terror at MGM in the distance. A lot of the standard view rooms on higher floors have illuminations views too.
For prefered view there are some rooms with views of Cresent Lake and the Boardwalk entertainment area. There are views of the main pool and of the quiet pool all of which can also see the canal that the boats use to get to MGM. Some of these rooms will also be able to see the Swan/Dolphin or MGM. The last section will have views of a red building (a maintance buiding I think???), the canal and the Swan/Dolphin. Many people have complained that this last section have the worst of the prefered views, which I agree with!
To help you with your decsion, if you like to people watch, the prefered views are more entertaining (pools or Boardwalk), but if you like quiet, the standard views are not going to have people milling around under your room. When we take guests we typically book prefered view. When it is just us, we typically book standard view! Hope this helped you some!

Only a very small percentage of the rooms qualify at "standard", less than 20%. That is why they go so fast.

If they could guarantee a Boardwalk view for prefered points, it would be worthwhile. The prefered views include the demon clown and anything except the parking lot. Standard is parking lot, prefered is everything else.

The parking lot is pretty removed from the hotel. You can see some of it from most standard vies rooms, but it is generally a long way too it. Most don't believe the small chance of getting the prized boardwalk view is worth the extra points and most try to reserve standard...that is why they go so fast and are so hard to get.

As usual, this decision is driven by personal preference. Some people attach a lot of importance to their room views. Others couldn't care less.

If you lean more towards the latter than the former....go for the standard (knowing that it's tough to get anyway). If you don't like the idea of overlooking the parking lot/entry area, then go for preferred and take a shot at the area you'd like most.

I guess where some people get disappointed is when they "roll the dice" on preferred and then get a room with a view that they consider to be not much better than the parking lot. Then they wish they had just saved the points.

It's all personal preference..can't go wrong either way.

We have always had a standard view and always have liked it....I much prefer the savings on points over the view I get...Friends of our did get a 1st floor on the main pool and i did like that but the chances of getting that exact view would be hard so I don't gamble with extra points..

Hi Cali

When you book at the 11 month window it depends on whats available (preferred or standard) at the time of booking that may make the choice for your family.

With me. I love having a GREAT view and if we don't get the Boardwalk view I will be greatly disappointed due to I love seeing water and the boats going to and from the dock. The only draw back when we had the Boardwalk view in 99 was the noise from the club beside the resort got very loud one night but after that the noise wasn't an issue.

We booked recently the 1bdrm standard view at the BWV due to we are stretching points so we could go on an Alaska cruise for 2004 or doing DCL with points. Right now this is the first standard view room I have ever booked so I am hoping I like it.

I hope whatever you and your family choose for your 1st DVC stay works out for all of you.

Don't reserve preferred view with your heart set on getting the Boardwalk view. You may end up with a main pool or quiet pool view, even booking at 11 months. I did that the first time, I assumed that since I booked it the first day possible that I had a good chance of getting the requested Boardwalk view. Ended up over the quiet pool. So I had to weigh the gamble of trying to get it vs saving the points. Since I was spending more points every year than I had (working from banked points from my first year), I decided to just book standard view. We've had standard view twice and loved it! Had a view of the Illuminations fireworks and could even hear the music! So now I don't think twice, I book standard view at 11 months (day by day for early December).
