Hello all!!

I am currently staying in BWV, room 5026, for 4 nights and then moving to VWL on Wednesday. The 1br room is a non-lockoff and solitary. It is at the very end of a hallway and overlooks the Leaping Libations/Clown Pool. I would guesstimate a good quarter mile from the elevators. It sits directly over the kids area looking at the Clown's face. I thought the room was clean and well maintained until I noticed some sort of mold sitting in the air vents covers. It is black and can be scratched off with a finger nail. Mold is the only thing that comes to mind. And yes I did tell the front desk about it, but they haven't done anything about it yet. I also noticed a corner, as you come into the room, that was crushed on the lower part. Where, I would guess, gets a beating from luggage carts and strollers.

There isn't wireless access in the rooms yet as I thought I read on an earlier post. I didn't get word as to when this will happen to BWV.

The crowds on Sat at Epcot was light, Sun at MK was much heavier, and today at AK, I thought was medium. It is hard to tell for me since the paths are narrow.

In an earlier post, I mentioned a spot I found for viewing Epcot's fireworks. I didn't see any mention before and I didn't see anyone else there other than a security cart with a CM watching the fireworks. Oh yeah, the spot... from BWV take a walk towards MGM on the path. Where there is a sign for tennis courts/MGM (where the paths diverge from each other) stop about 20 yards from here. The view is great...

And finally no matter how much Disney thinks they are kid oriented, I just find little things that make it so much harder to stay in the resort with toddlers. I few things I would change is to have stoves with the knobs on the back. I know, maybe there is a liabilty because someone might burn themselves reaching over the cooking area. But to have a stove where the knobs are reachable to toddlers is irresponsible too. I would also change the TVs out where the buttons are on top of the tv as compared to the bottom. Pet peeve on this one probably since my 18mold likes to touch buttons turning things on and off... tv, vcr/dvd, oven light, room lights (yes those are lower than expected too). And finally, would it be so hard to get plastic bowls/cups in the rooms (maybe if requested). Those stonewear plates and glass cups are not kid friendly, if you know what I mean....

Ok, enough for now... I am still staying here, so if you have any questions...

Oh, one last thing, in the lobby, the cooks have put together a fair scene made completly of chocolate. Very impressive and hard to get my wife out of the lobby.

All I can say is....................wow!!! You really might want to go back and re- examine/read your resort/ room expectations on this one!!!!!

You can request paper bowls, plates etc. from mousekeeping

Glad to see your stay is going well and you found a quiet fireworks viewing spot

Mold and Florida tend to go hand in hand - still, they should be fixing it since you identified the problem - did you tell mousekeeping as well? You may have to stay on this one to get it fixed by visiting the front desk and speaking to someone who will commit to fixing the problem.

A chocolate fair - sounds beautiful - hopefully a large mouse will not eat it one night?

The mold would definitely bother me. I found watermelon seeds on our BWV balcony last month & it was rather sticky. Reported it, but no one ever showed up to take care of it. :(

I understand your issues with the knobs, etc., but there is always something a toddler can get into, whether it's Disney or somewhere else. It's just one of those things a parent needs to be extra careful about.

The room we stayed in at the BWV had a TV behind an armoire that you could close the doors to - we stayed in a studio, not a 1BR. Was your TV right out in the open or could you "hide" it behind some doors?

As another poster stated, you can get paper cups, bowls & plates from Mousekeeping.

I believe that Disney is kid friendly - no place is 100% child proof.

spearenb,
Are you still there at BWV? I was wondering if you had a digital camera (or a regular one would work, too) so that you could document the mold/damage and send a follow up letter to member services if you concerns are not addressed by mousekeeping/engineering?

Thanks for the info on the viewing spot, I'll have to check it out next time. :)

Instead of calling the front desk, look on the phone for the maintance or housekeeping buttons and call them directly. We usually get service right away when we do that at OKW. The desk person probably never gets around to doing anything about it if they are busy, but that is housekeeping's job.

I think the mold problem is a legit concern and it would bother me also, but some of the other concerns Like:
I also noticed a corner, as you come into the room, that was crushed on the lower part. Where, I would guess, gets a beating from luggage carts and strollers.

Are a little over the top in resort room expectations. And BTW, this has nothing to do with the fact that the resort is BWV, I would feel the same way no matter which resort you were talking about.

I thought these were nice suggestions, but I took them to be more of a "I wonder if they ever thought of this?" type of musing rather than a complaint.
Hope all is well in the land of the Mouse:D

Have a great vacation!

As far as your concerns, it's your vacation, so if it concerns you, you have every right to address it. Thanks for following up!

Hi Spearenb !
Thanks for checking in during your stay. Hope Mousekeeping attends to the mold pronto---that's not good, but I'm guessing it's something that was easy to miss by the staff when the last guests checked out ? Also, I can understand how tough it is with such young children. I'm thankful my youngest is 11 now---but I went through all that when they were younger so I know how you would start thinking about stuff like knobs and such.
That choclate fair in the lobby sounds awesome---wish I could see it ! Maybe you could snap a pic and post it here upon your return ?

Not trying to start a debate here, but I have to agree with DeeP. I thought some of the "kid friendly" issues were a little over the top too.

I have 3 DD's myself so have been through the toddler years, once with a set of twins. As I stated before, nowhere you go will be as safe or as kid friendly as your own home. Any resort you stay at would have something that a toddler would find interesting - & probably not safe to be playing with.

The mold would annoy me. The other things would just wear me out - I remember those days of constantly watching & following my girls all over!! Boy, our trips are much more relaxing now! :D

This is especially hard to believe and typical of the UNFAIR criticism that BWV gets more than other resorts....I can't believe it is anything like a quater of a mile..maybe a tenth..

I am looking forward to Caskbill getting the lowdown on the REAL distances at the BWV--I don't know but a "good quater mile" from the elevators I would think would have you somewher over near the Swan and Dolphin...the whole circumference of Crescent Lake is just over 3/4 miles -if I recall...

Caskbill is going early next year...I hope he can somehow give us some more accurate information.

Hopefully these pictures come through. If not, I will try and find some way to post them. The one picture of the crushed corner, was not exaggerated by me as I didn't notice the pieces lying on the floor until I got ready to take the picture. My 18m might have hit into it as he was running around. The picture of the 'mold' (since I don't know if it is or not) was as is.

I forgot that the front desk isn't mousekeeping and I will let them know these areas of concern. And, when I move to VWL, I will request plastic plates and such. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I am very aware that a toddler can get into everything they possibly can :) Especially, when you catch your toddler standing on the breakfast bar turning on the water to the sink. Would I be over the top if I suggested that Disney eliminate the breakfast bar so any toddler (not just mine) wouldn't be able to do this? Probably. And it is hard to watch all of the great Disney movies or the Wiggles behind the closed Amour doors. ;)

Take my earlier suggestions or concerns for what they are - just an opinion. So be it if you think that it was over the top to mention an eyesore, a possible health concern, and other areas that could be changed to make a families stay less stressful. You can't make everyone happy, I know that, but you can do better things as a whole so that everyone is more satisfied with their ownership.

Tell me, would it matter to a whole lot a owners if the buttons on the tv were on top as compared to the bottom? Especially in the era of remote controls? What about the stove? If the knobs were in the back, how many people would be effected by this? Handicapped persons would probably be, but then again, they would probably be staying in a special room for their needs. Again, these were suggestions I would try to make. Take them for what they are.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

This is very, very, very common here. This board is very well embedded with a vast majority of old school OKW members and fans. Most "so called jokes" or inaccurate information regarding any DVC resort other than OKW are laughed at or poo pooed off. However try the same "so called joke", line of humor/satire etc with OKW as the brunt of the joke and it is a totally different story! Be ready to put on the anti flame suit! pirate:

Well, as you can see, the pictures didn't show. I will figure some way to post them. If anyone can lead me to how to post them here, I will do that. And I will try and snap and post a picture of the chocolate fairgrounds in the lobby.

I too would be interested in knowing the actual mileage, I mean footage, from this room to the elevators. I can actually know how many calories I burned walking this distance. Caskbill, can I make a request to find out this distance? My repetation is on the line... ;)

Just a suggestion from someone who has stayed in the Villa's with children. See if you can pull the knobs off and put them on the counter so you can use them when needed. I know it may be a little harder to use the burners but if it does bother you this would work.

Please enjoy your vacation, you could be in the cold dreary northeast like me.

Regards, Rich

I entirely agree that the mold should be taken care of. That is uncalled for & can definitely be a real health issue.

At OKW it wouldn't matter where the buttons on the TV were in the living area. The TV is inside an armoire that is floor level.

Regardless, I hope they take care of the mold & I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay. Let us know how you enjoy VWL.

BTW - we stayed at the BWV in October & when we walked out of our room we overlooked the pool through the hallway. It was quite a distance to the elevator, so we took the stairs all the time (we don't use strollers any more) - need some way to work off the Mickey Bars!! :p
