Is it just me or is that clown at the Luna Park Pool scary? I love the pool there but I just wish they would get rid of that freeky clown on the slide?I guess it troubles me mostly because of the movie based on Stephen King's book IT. I remember seeing that movie when I was a kid and it gave me nightmares, and seeing that clown reminds me of the movie. I have never been or seen the quiet pools at Boardwalk are they really nice?I have heard that they do not have a clown, which is a definite plus.

I don't know about the clown being scary, but I have always felt that the clown was tacky. I love the slide theme because it is a roller coaster but I have never liked the fact that the end is a clown. Maybe if they had something like a waterfall or a wave being the end of the slide it would be less "scary." JMHO

Many have posted here about the "scary clown" at the end of Keister Coaster slide. And my DD13, without hearing the phrase from me, declared that she didn't like the pool with the "scary clown"!!

I think that it does reflect the old Boardwalk theme though....kind of the "fun house" effect of the old boardwalk carnivals.

It doesn't bother me much...after Alien Encounter and a few other attractions, that clown is pretty tame!! :)

I also agree that not only is the clown scary but it is also very tacky as well. They should get rid of it.

It reminds me of the circus scene in the movie, "Something Wicked This Way Comes." It doesn't bother me so much, but it just reminds me of that particular scene.

It is the "Boardwalk" Resort--a waterfall or a wave are about as in theme as the "theme' pool at the Grand Floridian....Leave the clown as is-there is nothing inherently scary about the clown... that is something that the viewer puts there himself-or doesn't if they want to just relax and enjoy the Boardwalk theme...why not get creeped out by the carousel at the bar because you have seen that terrifying scene from Strangers on a Train? or the whole tacky circus look anyway???I mean what is more sleazy than circus/carny types? Come on, folks. To paraphrase Freud- Sometimes a clown is just a clown.

Paul,

Oh man...now that you mention it, that bar does creep me out now!!!

"Strangers on a Train"...the Hitchcock version....what a classic!

LOL, Paul. Good points. But that clown is a little "over the top". Doesn't particularly bother me though.

And if I'm not mistaken, tacky is the general theming of the Atlantic board walks! ;)

I wouldn't be able to swim anywhere near it - which would rather defeat the purpose! It's one of the reasons I chose an OKW resale over a BWV one!! ;)

I vote keep the clown!!
Who's mouth would you like to slide out? Sadam's?

At least we have a fun slide.

I never really thought about the clown much when we were there this past summer at the pool - however my DD7 thinks the clown is funny - all the way down the slide she laughs and after its over she says "I guess the clown didn't like the taste of me cause he spit me out" she loves that pool!:p

I LIKE THE CLOWN!!!!! ........I haven't had a nightmare about it yet:D :D ........

The clown slide, roller coaster etc are all part of the circus/amusement park theme of the pool. Many people think the elephants that squirt water and the ones on the pool tiles are Dumbo but they are not, they are just supposed to be a circus elephant, they are part of the theming of the circus/amusement park/boardwalk theme. Actually the pool slide clown is a copy of a clown that was used extensively for a amusement pier in NY and then later AC boardwalk had one also and it was called Steeplechase Pier. This same clown face that the pool slide is modeled after is the same as was in all the advertising posters for the Steeplechase Pier. Matter of fact, one of the suites in the Boardwalk Inn is named the Steeplecase Suite. The first time I saw the clown slide I was not crazy about it until I found out the history behind it and it does fit in with the theming of the resort. The pool bar Leaping Libations is also named after some bar that was at one of the seashore resorts in the 40-50's, probably Atlantic City because it has a picture of the diving horse on it. There is tons of history and memorabilia, old photos etc all over the Boardwalk resort, starting in the lobby and then you can just walk around the halls and see various old photos and postcards that are real memorabilia from the old seashore resorts. The Seashore Sweet Shop also has some authentic and very nice Ms America memorabilia. I think this is one of the reasons I love the boardwalk theming, it is very detailed and quite authentic, if their lobby does not look excately like a lobby from one of the old seashore resort hotels on the Atlantic City boardwalk, I don't know what does. It is amazing. So leave the clown, he belongs, he is part of the theming! LOL!
And RLevy, you should be ashamed of yourself! "Tacky", you grew up in the same place I did and spent many happy summer days & nights on Steeplechase Pier, how dare you call the clown "tacky"???? LOL:)

I think that the rest of the BW resort is very classy and I enjoy walking around and looking at the memoriabilia. The clown face is just so big it overwhelms the rest of the beautiful pool area. The face would not keep me from the resort but the clown is the one aspect of the Boardwalk that I don't like, JMHO

I saw this on a Stephen King website and the pool came to mind again ....

Does that clown keep people from swimming in the Luna Park pool and/or encourage them to "pool hop" elsewhere? If so, it's real purpose could be "crowd control". Maybe if there were even more clowns around that pool, there would be no need for the "fences" and "pool hopping bans" during peak periods!

I knew there was a reason I love that clown! :p :teeth: :teeth:

I'm with the people that think the clown is a bit scary. I'm definitely not on a "kill the clown" campaign though. The 3 or 4 times that we have stayed at BWV I just made sure that I requested a view with out the the main pool. I don't think that any of our family has actually swam in that pool. Until this year we have always walked over to SAB or used the quiet pool. Haven't stayed there since pool hopping to SAB has been banned. We will probably stay at BCV from now on when we want to stay in the EPCOT area.
