BWV cleanliness?

The last time I visited the BWV (Sept. 2000) I found them to be below Disney standards. It seemed like the place needed a good cleaning on the inside and the outside. Some of the wood around the balconies was rotten and the carpet in the hallways was down right nasty. The BWI side seemed to be in better shape (inside & out) than the BWV. When I visited the other deluxe resorts, I found them to be almost in tip top shape. OKW is older than BWV and they were in great condition.

The reason I ask is I'm about to purchase a resell at BWV but I'm afraid that the management at the BWV and DVC (DVD?) could care less. I even found that the front desk at the BW is below Disney standards. I know the member dues pay for most or all the up keep.... I just think it should be nicer. I don't mean to offend anyone but does anyone see the same situation as me?

I have never noticed anything below par at BWV. However, the BWV's are currently undergoing a complete rehab. They began with redoing the lobby area including improving the entrance and will then move on to re-doing the outside of the resort. Hallway and room rehabs tend to be done on an on-going basis just as they do in the other resorts. DVC does a very good job of estimating the needs of their capital budget and plan for future rehabs/repairs that are necessary. This way members should not be hit with any major expense.

The BWV is currently undergoing an extensive rehab. I'm not sure what "Disney standards" you are referring to for some of your comments- especially since BWI and BWV both use the same front desk, but you are certainly welcome to your own opinion.

The annual dues provide for a maintenance reserve to provide for a suitable schedule of renovation for each DVC resort. If a guest ever finds conditions in their room or resort which are below "standards", a simple call to the desk or housekeeping will usually remedy the situation immediately.

Good Luck with your decision! Enjoy!

I stayed there in December and our room was immaculate, it looked like it was recently renovated. They mentioned at the DVC annual meeting that the hall carpets were going to be replaced this year and the exterior repainted (the original paint was substandard and was being redone by the contractor).

I have stayed at BWI and many times at BWV since it opened. I did notice last Sept. that the outside of the building needed painting and many of the awnings were sunbleached and starting to tear. I believe all of the rehab will take care of that. They were painting the hallways while we were there. I did not find any problems with cleanliness in the rooms or on the grounds. I personally have never had a problem with the staff.
While we were there this past Feb. I saw them bringing some new furniture in to some of the rooms. Rumor also has it that they will be shutting down all the GV's this January for rehab. I have stayed in them many times since we bought and I did notice a spot on the wood floors that needed to be fixed, but other than that the room was in great shape.
I don't think you need to be concerned about DVC keeping the place in great shape, Disney is known for their quality. I also don't know if you are aware but when the 40 something years that we have left are over all the DVC resorts revert back to Disney, so it is in THEIR best interest to maintain the the resorts too.

We were at BWV in January and rehab was plugging along. I didn't see any problems with cleanliness at all - even the construction sites were clean.

Stayed at BWV in Nov last year and was very disappointed with the condition of the resort. I brought my concerns to more than one CM, and was told that the DVC was in a legal dispute with the contractor, and that the condition was due to that on-going litigation. Hope that since things were settled to the benefit of DVC, that it will look better. I've never seen any WDW resort look as bad. This is my home resort. Unfortunately, our room was not clean either, and there were about three hundred dead bugs along the baseboard in the bedroom, and another two hundred along the wall in the livingroom. Someone did come and clean them up, but I wondered why these critters weren't noticed before.

I had similar concerns about the resort, and wondered what I had gotten myself into by joining DVC, but others here have stated experiences different and more positive than my own at BWV. The previous year, our stay there was great. Hope things get better. I'm anxious to go back to stay there.

We just returned from BWV and didn't have any problems at all. Our 1-bedroom was spotless. There is a lot of construction and refubishing going on there right now. They are working on the lobby area on the outside. The wing we were in was partially closed due to repainting of the rooms and hallways. Our room, 3100, was in great shape. We wondered if our room had already been painted because there wasn't a spot on the walls or any nicks in the trim anywhere. The only problem with our room was that it was right next to the a housekeeping closet. In the afternoons when we returned for a bit of rest or swimming we could hear a bit of banging around when we were in the bedroom. It was the maids pulling their carts in and out of that room. Other than that it was quiet. The furnishings were even in great shape, not a wear spot or tear anywear.

DW and I just returned from the BWV. We were in room 2121 and it was clean but a tad worn. Our balcony that
over looked the entrance was filthy...
it seem as though it has not been cleaned for some time. There were bugs,
lint, dirt, cigarette ashes and coffee cup stains all over the outside balcony. The wood on the top part of the balcony was starting to rot (not faded but rotten). I understand that thousands upon thousands use this resort but walk over to YC & BC and compare it to BWV, the staff (IMHO) does a better job. If you really want to see the contrast, visit the GF.... this place is always picture perfect. Our home resort is BWV and I'm concerned. Also, the staff at BWV (front desk only)
could use a lil' more customer service training. Please don't beat me up too bad it's just MHO.

BWV is our home resort and we love it there but also feel that it definitely needs to be cleaned up. We spent five days at the VWL and decided to visit the BWV and it just looked dirty to us. We observed balconies that were filthy, the furniture in the lobby looked dirty and many doors had lots of scratches and dirt. When we stayed in November our room was immaculate but the outside appearance of the BW in its present condition is really unappealing and discouraging to us.

Any resort can have bad rooms at any given time. GF is always picture perfect? When we stayed there in October 1999, the bedspreads were worn & faded (a maid came in and replaced them, but they still were faded), the carpet was dirty, we found a glass with soda & a cigarette butt floating in it on the patio. They were in the middle of the renovation, our room was not renovated yet and no renovated rooms were available. We were upgraded on the view, so we kept it. The point is, with the amount of usage these rooms have, it's almost impossible to keep them perfect all the time.

I wonder if the DVC rooms have more problems because there is not daily housekeeping, the rooms may only be fulled cleaned once a week.

300 dead bugs in one room and 200 in another? They need to get an exterminator in there!!!

Sounds like the exterminator had already been there!

We stayed in BWV last January and I have to say we were totally impressed with the incredible level of maintenance everywhere. Our room looked as if it had never been used before. Not a single flaw in sight. Even the bedspread and sheets looked brand new. Furthermore, next day we noticed people re-painting the hall walls. We asked why since they didn't look like they needed any new paint and they told us that it was because there was a small chip in the paint. Actually I thought to myself "what a waste" but I won't complain. I was surprised with some of the posters because their experience was so different than mine. Just goes to show that any resort can have an off day. If you search these boards, you will find some bad reviews about every resort (Even the Poly, GF or Dixie Landings).
I find the BWV to be a top notch resort and I am not alone. It is ranked FIRST in the world in the TUG database of the top rated timeshare resorts.

We stayed in room 2001 (easy number to remember) and it wasn't up to Disney standards. There was a lot of mold on the walls in the shower, ashtrays (nonsmoking unit) in the room and cigarette butts on the balcony. I did write to DVC to make them aware of the situation and now two months later have not yet received a reply.
Would my one time poor experience stop me from buying at BWV absolutely not. This was our first experience with any problems in 8 years and based on other hotel experiences...give me Disney it's truly an entire vacation experience.

Just curious....did you report these things to housekeeping at the time?

Our experience has always been that any shortcoming has always been corrected immediately upon reporting. Things like mold and ashtrays could have been easily corrected right then. A stain in the carpet, mark on the wall would usually take a little longer, but they will usually address these things right away.

Doc, Thanks for responding so quickly. We had a few other problems with the room that we mentioned to housekeeping and within ten minutes a gentleman in a suit(position of authority?) responded to the problem. It was a few hours later that we realized there was mold in the shower etc. and didn't want to bother them again. We didn't want to bother them once again and let it go. In the future I'll check the entire unit out before calling housekeeping. Bottom line we love DVC and are thrilled to be able to be a part of it.
