Buzz's Brigade 2009 - Moving to Infinity and Beyond!!!

:stitch2: Monday Mixers w/ Team 'Ohana :stitch2:

I thought I'd let the Buzzies know that Team 'Ohana is inviting their WISH family to come visit its thread on Mondays. We thought this would be a good way for people on the teams/threads to get to know other WISHers better. Plus, 'Ohana like to think we know how to throw a party and we always like new guests! The drinks are free, if virtual, and no one will tell you when you've had enough. :upsidedow

I'll post a reminder on Monday, with a loose question/discussion topic to get the conversations going. There's no need to stick to the topic, of course, as it's really your sparking, non-alcoholic but still intoxicating presence that is requested. So, if you have a little time for socializing with your cousins, please stop by 'Ohana on Monday! :goodvibes

I'll try and stop by!!!!
I set a new top speed yesterday.....21.73mph :yay:

Syko,
that is awesome. Not sure I have ever gone that fast on my bicycle. You should be able to keep up with the bikes now.

I forgot to add I was doing the Edison Festival of Lights 5K yesterday. This is by far the largest running 5K in town. Close to 1,300 runners they said. For Ft Myers that is pretty good.

The Edison Festival of Lights Parade has been going on here in Ft Myers for over 35 years, winter home of Thomas Edison. What is so fun is that the race is run along the parade route right before the parade so you have thousands of spectators. Also kind of nice that it is an early evening race so no getting up at 6:00 a.m.

The start is a bit dangerous since there is no starting mat. So you have everyone trying to get up close to the start since the clock starts as soon as the gun goes off. It was a bit hairy for the first 1/4 mile as we had to run down a narrow street then around a corner.

The other issue is when you are in this "mass" it is easy to go out too fast. That's what I did. Heck I am slow but when I looked at my Garmin I was running a 6:15 per mile pace. OK, it was only for a few yards probably because when I saw that, I immediately slowed down. But, it was too late. I spent the rest of the race out of breath. It was the longest 5K I have ever run

I did finish at 23:47 which is a PR by 4 seconds but there was no kick left. The only other time I have been this tired in a race was my first marathon. I was dead at the finish. The winner finished in 14:08.

Hooter's to Hooter's half marathon next weekend. Beer, wings and Hooter's girls at the finish. That's enough a reason to run 13.1 miles

enjoy,
Duane

Thats a great time Duane, I never knew that Thomas Edison had a summer home in FL, the dis is educational as well.
I wonder if theres a race for the ladies with perhaps the chipndales at the end??????

We'll there's this one: http://www.queencitytiming.com/race_pages/Takeprideinyourhide.htm,but no guarantees as to the attractiveness of the physiques, I bet :lmao:

I had company yesterday, so no exercise, and I'm having serious motivational difficulties today....may be able to make myself ride the recumbent bike while watching the Amazing Race tonight.

:rotfl2: I would never be able to do that...I'm a 32H, the girs would get in the way of my crank bar.:rotfl:

I just did a new PR 13.1miles in 1:13.....now if I could only do that on race day.
Franknpooh Do you use a cycleops? I am still waiting on the adpater for me so it will work with my chair. I plan on doing my indoor work while watching House.

OK, don't listen to me for your history. Thomas Edison had a WINTER home here. Duh. Sorry about that.
Duane

I did a 10 mile long run today and feel like I did 13.1. Remind me why I run again? Oh, yeah... to have an excuse to visit WDW! :rotfl2:

That's very funny! And I hate running if my favorite sports bra is in the wash, I cannot even imagine this:eek:

Nice work Syko, that's about my bike speed when I'm really haulin :thumbsup2

I've had a respiratory infection for a week, hate it. I'm going to try running tomorrow.

Don't forget our Cousins at 'Ohana today.

Ok, I know I posted here a little while ago after Donna -- now where did it go? :confused3 I must have previewed it but not actually posted.

Oh, well. Can't remember what I said.

Oh, yeah -- I think I cited my sick 16 year old as an excuse for not exercising today.

Tomorrow is another day.....

Hey Buzzies!

As the month is coming to an end don't forget to post your miles for me next week. I'll add them up for the front page. I think they want a new thread each month, but I'll try and let this one roll and just put totals in there each month.

To this point I've got a whopping total of 46 miles this month. Feels like nothing when I pretty much did that in a weekend at Disney last month. This should be my lowest month total of the year, but we'll see.

Seems like everyone is doing good out there. Keep it up team!!!

Way to go!!

Awesome job on the 5k Duane!

I'm with you:) Running is the best excuse for a vacation I've found so far.

I've had a respiratory infection for a week, hate it. I'm going to try running tomorrow.

Hope you're feeling better!

I'm feeling better and back in the gym. Last night while I was watching TV I was wishing I had a treadmill or bike trainer so I could exercise while watching. Maybe someday. Right now I live in a tiny apartment :crowded: and rearranging all the furniture so I have space to do crunches is enough of a chore. We were in Williamsburg this past weekend for a mini vacation, so no running, but we sure did a lot of walking!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Unless Wii Fit time counts for something, I have my usual nothing for the month. It is finally warming up here but is now rainy and super cold (to me). Maybe in a couple weeks it will be nice enough to get out and run for real.

Jessica - Wii Fit time DEFINITELY counts! :thumbsup2

syko - You are a speed demon!!! :thumbsup2

frankenpooh - That is one race I will NOT be signing up for! ::yes::

Chris - Don't worry about it. We know you'll make up for it later. I am at 60 something miles, so maybe I did a few for you. ;)

Duane - You did you 5K in the amt. of time it took me to do my two mile run, and you say you were slow. I am definitely the Pokey Little Puppy.

dkostel - Are ya' feeling any better?

HGH (hungrygreenhippo;) )
- Going to Disney is the BEST reason to run!! :thumbsup2

Me - I need to get out there and do two or three miles. I'm just wimping out on my weekly runs, and just doing my long weekend runs. I know I need to do better since I have that Half coming up in 9 weeks. I've been able to get away with it up til now because I haven't done too long of a distance, but now I'm up to doing 6 miles and it only goes up from here. I'm just so worried about injuring something (by overuse) and not being able to do the race. Why am I so scared of that? :confused3 I know it is better to do runs during the week along with my weekend runs, but I just got to get my butt out there! Someone please kick me!

Good Evening Buzzzzzzzzzz's,

Tomorrow Hakuna Matata will be hosting an Ice Cream Social. (that's an old fashioned term for mixer). We would love to hear from everyone about what their favorite recovery food is AND is that also your favorite WDW treat!!! Feel free to include any other interesting pieces of information in your answer especially the exact location in WDW where you get this marvelous food!!!

Hope to see you there!

Hi All,
Chris, don't feel bad I am only at 49 running miles but I have 2 more runs before my half this Sunday. The half will be a good way to kick off next month. The good news is I have worked out almost every day for the last month so I do have some additional time to record.

I sent my Goofy registration in via snail mail, on Feb 18. i figured if they closed the race before I got it in, then that is OK, I'd just run the 5K and the full. But, I received an email confirmation today. Looks like I'm in for Dopey #2.

enjoy folks,
Duane

syko - nice work on your speed! Wish I could ride fast. The fastest speed I've done yet on my bike was 14 and that was going downhill. :rotfl:

Duane - you are so fast! Congrats on your PR, wow! Great time. Good luck with the Hooters Half. Man, that sounds like fun. I would love to do that event.

Allie - you can do this! Just don't over do it and ease into your week day runs. ( weeks is still a good amount of time to get ready for it. I only trained 10 weeks before my first half. ;) I'm excited that you've taken the step to sign up for the CMM Half. You will do great!

Chris - I think 46 miles is still great! Thanks for the reminder on the month ending soon. I'll be sure to check in with my totals!

Me - I did a Mardi Gras 10K race over the weekend. No PR for me but finished in 54:44 and 5th in my age group. It was a fun small race and got a cute mardi gras medal at the finish. My husband was 3rd in his age group. I ran over 40 miles last week. That's the most miles I've ever ran in one week alone. Still cross training for my upcoming tri as well so, I'll have additional miles/time for bikes and swims!

Congrats on getting in. Good Luck on Sunday!

Thanks Casey! I guess I have first Half jitters. :scared1: :rotfl2:

Since you are a triathlon, let me ask you a question. I just did a 6.16 mile bike ride in 41:31. How is that pace? I tried for biking about the same amt. of time it would take me to run 3 miles. I actually went a little longer, but since I was close to 6 miles, I decided to keep going. Is that good or not? :confused3 I thought that would be a non impact way of exercising without wearing out my knee, and hopefully strengthening it in the process. :goodvibes

Now with that bike ride, I will definitely be over the 70 mile mark for Feb.! :cheer2: :cool1: :yay:
