I am leaving TODAY to drive down for our 8/24 sailing on the Magic. A friend has asked me to get her some Rum. Where is the best place to buy it, and more importantly what is a good brand? (I am not much of a drinker)She is doing a big favor for me while I am gone and I would like to bring her back something she would really enjoy.

THANKS:earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

In St. Thomas I bought several types of locally produced rum at Havensight (not sure of exact name) Mall. This is right next to where the ship docked. It was very inexpensive, and I bought coconut, vanilla and pinapple rum for presents for other folks. I am not a rum drinker, but they all said it was very good...

Im taking coconut rum and pineapple juice on the ship with us in 100 days! (Nov 30th)

We found the best deal on board, but you are only allowed 2 liters. In St Thomas you can purchase upto 4 liters. They have different brands, but we prefer Captain Morgans.

Definitely St. Thomas and try the coconut rum! Buying it right at the dock was the perfect spot and very cheap even the more expensive brands!

To "imgoingtodisney" - Coconut rum and pineapple juice! My friend you have good taste!!!!!

Rae:smooth:

All flavors. The coconut, pineapple, bananas etc. make wonderful Rum cakes for Christmas.

Patty,

Did you try the Cruzan Single barrel estate rum? It's truly a shame to mix that one. I staill have a couple bottles left. I'll be thinking of you 11/30!

BTW I saw a hand powered blender at Restoration Hardware, and had to giggle a little. Never did get those Margs! But the top shelf ones from ESPN were pretty good:p

We only bought the Flavored rums.........We bought Jose Cuervo, Grand Marnier, Crown royal and rum, rum, rum, rum, rum,
you can only take so many bottles across the country.....

smiles Patty

Propane powered blender would be sweet...........

Hi Patty - I am gonna ask this here so it in on the thread for others.

First of all, I didn't know all these brands came in flavors.

Secondly, someone told us to buy Parrot Cay something or other. Is this rum and does this one come in flavors?

Third, we were told to buy on the islands and not on the ship, cuz it is cheaper.

Fourth, can we buy liquor in the Western ports the same way, the same amounts and as cheap as we could at the eastern ports?

THanks sounds like we'll be boozin it up after this trip!

(Hi Gary!)

In Sint Maarten, you can get GREAT prices on Mount Gay rum at Ray's Jewelry on Front Street.

Hey Goofy!

How are your pasties hangin?;)

Haven't heard of Parrot Cay. Hmmm...

I know the prices were ALOT cheaper in St Maarten and somewhat cheaper at St Thomas, than on the ship. Although the "specials" they ran on the ship weren't too bad. But, if you buy on the ship, I think you have to wait 'till the end of the trip to get it!

I'd think you can get duty free liquor on the Western. I'd bet the Tequilla would be WAY cheap!

Have fun! (When you guys going?)

Well, it's too late for advice on rum flavors, but I'm partial to the Guavaberry Rum on St. Maarten. I think that I'll have to try the Coconut Rum. It sounds wonderful.

Suggest you try one of those small bottles that liquor stores sell first before you buy a large one. I like rum but Captain Morgan Rum is a bit MUCH for me (78 proof). Now if we talk Captain Morgan Parrot Cay Coconut Rum - well, baby, I'm with ya'!

Rae:crazy:

No need to buy samples........ Every store we went into were offering them........ Gosh after 7-10 shots each of various flavors of Rum on St. Thomas........woohoo! They all tasted wonderful!!!

Goofy- The Cruzen was awesome....... We've started buying it at home as well. If you go to the Cruzen website they have recipes for the rum cakes. Experiment with them. You add a shot...drink a shot....add a shot....drink a shot!

We bought all of ours on St. Thomas. We saw the ad on the back of a taxi.... we never rode anywhere......just read the ads ;)

K-Mart in St. Thomas has the cheapest liquor prices. That is what the Taxi said......and the prices were great!
I think the Cruzen Rum was about $4.50 a bottle. The closer you get to the Havensight area the more expensive it got. I know we only paid $65 for 4 litres of Rum, 1 litre of Grand Marnier, 1 litre of my buddy Jose Cuervo 1800 and a litre of Crown Royale.
I am going to miss being poolside with everyone finishing off the Margarita's after castaway cay!
:(
Hey GBG.......... How are you?

smiles Patty

Did I read it right....we should not count on buying cheap liquor on the Western tour? Does the boat still sell it cheap even if the islands dont?

I'm still goin' on the Eastern. I COULD be bribed to bring some back for you. (Maybe even some for my FAVORITE LS!;) )

GBG

Its nice to know I'm somebody's favorite "SOMETHING"!!

Hey Goof- I thought I'd read previously that Cozumel is the place to shop. It is Mexico, so I'd thought everything would be cheaper there.

Well we can put our order in with GBG...........! We can swap "Fairvilla's" items for "RUM"

smiles Patty

Fairvilla! You guys need anything from there?

(HMMM... Now wouldn't that be an interesting LS gift!?!?:earseek:
