Okay, I bit the bullet and put a bid in on a resale and it was accepted!!! yeah!!! Now the big question, by buying resale, what am I missing, besides the difference in price (big difference) what little perks will I not get buy buying resale???? I bought resale once at Vistana, and after everything was settled, I never received anything from them, will I still receive a "welcome package" from Disney, I am sure I won't get the "backpack" but is there anything else????thanks in advance - kim

We recently bought into OKW for 150 points through resale. I was finally able to convince my wife that it was a good idea. On the day Disney was notified that it had been recorded we got a call from our Disney rep welcoming us "home"! Within three weeks we got the Member Guide book and a call from DVC quality assurance wondering if we had received our membership cards, etc. I bought the DVC backpack for $40.00 because I needed to get something with the DVC on it! Don't know what I'll do with it.
On the day we were called abou the deed recording, we were able to make reservations at OKW for June 2003 and got our membership number. Good luck!

cool - thanks I had to work hard to convince my hubby to do this!!!I can deal with not having the backpack, but will probably buy one!

The only differences between resale and direct from Disney are the minor gifts and the ability to make reservations before you close when you buy direct. One person did post that DVC wouldn't send them the Public Offering statement and the like but this has not been my experience. I think you can count on being treated the same as any other member regardless of if you bought resale or direct.

Of cousre you may find one method is more cost effective and that certain things are available from one that are not from the other. Then there's the cost difference which is not nearly as dramatic as seen at many other timeshares.

If people are crazy about getting a "backpack", they can buy a case of them with the money saved by purchasing resales:) :) :) :) :) .......

I, too, am comparing resale to buying from DVC. What gifts have recent buyers received? What is this about a backpack? It is funny how sometimes those little things mean a lot. We bought another timeshare and got t-shirts, but had to practially beg for the second one (one for both my husband and myself). Seemed tacky on their part, considering that we had just spent some rather big bucks. Thanks for any current info about DVC!

Sharper,
When we bought BCV thru Disney (we were considering a BWV resale), we received a backpack and a BCV lithograph. They're pretty cool. But if I had bought a resale and didn't receive any gifts, it would not have been any loss. You can still buy these items once you join DVC, if you wish.

Nothing material that the money you saved on a resale can't easily buy. I bought resale and the experience was painless.

Agree with the group here. There really hasn't been an advantage to buying from Disney. When I first bought resale several years back, Disney had stopped offering the free passes (remeber those?) but I was able to get that perq for a short time by buying through a resale. Those were the days....

Those purchasing resale, did you pruchase the remainder of the original 40 year term. How'd that work and did you still feel you got a good deal if less than 40?

At this time all DVC memberships expire in 2042. When you purchase, you will be getting what's remaining of the now 39 years. Depending on points availability, you may be getting a few more or less points than if you bought directly from Disney. After that you will be treated the same as the original owner.

Resale can be a good deal but it depends on what you want. Some resorts are only available resale and Beach Club really only available from Disney. The smaller the contract, the less your chances of saving money and on very small ones it's easy to pay more than through Disney. You can also pick your use year and exact number of points if you buy direct but you can usually get pretty close resale as well. On 200 points at OKW, you should save somewhere around $3000 compared to buying directly from DVD.

Just to clarify closet mouse- DVC started in 1991 therefore it was for early purchasers a 51 year term. All current DVC contracts end Jan 31, 2042 (2041 being the last year points are received, with an extra month to use them up, as I understand it). So whenever you purchase a resale, it will end at the same time. Original term depends on when the contract was purchased. Actually if you purchase a contract with all 2002 points intact, you will get 40 years of points 2002-2041 (you count first and last year)

Gotta tell you closet mouse, even though I bought an original 1992 purchase in 1995, when I speak to people who bought in 1994 or earlier and paid thousands more for 50 less points, there's no doubt about the value. I even received the DVC canvas bag which was the gift at the time, which is now somewhere in my basement.:Pinkbounc
