Buying pins ahead of time for trading...

I'm thinking about buying some pins & lanyards ahead of our trip (hopefully at a good price) so my kids (DD9, DS7) can try trading this trip.

Do you have any suggestions on where to start? Does Ebay usually have good deals? (I know nothing about pins...what price would be good just to grab some up for trading)?

Thanks :)

38 days to go......

I have recently become a fan of the pin collecting and trading as well! Sometimes, you can find decent deals on eBay. There are several people who sell "collections" for just that - trading. As with anything on eBay though, make sure the seller has a good reputation so you can trust that what they advertise is what you'll really get.

Also, you can buy a lanyard at WDW or you should be able to find one at a Disney store that will have a few pins already on it, kind of like a starter set. Usually, that's a great way to start trading! Watch out though, it's addicting!!!

Good Luck and Hope you have a Wonderful Trip!

If you keep an eye on Disney Shopping you can sometimes get a great deal on pin sets.

Someone over on the Budget Board posted that they went to the Target $1 spot and found POTC lanyards. I found them at my Target yesterday...mine still has tons. Others are finding that their Targets are sold out. I have offered to pick up lanyards for anyone who wants some so long as they send me an SASE to mail them back out. From what others have said, these lanyards are fine for pins.

About a month ago, I was at a Disney store near me (in a mall that has gone downhill over recent years, so it doesn't get much traffic). Found some cute pins for $2.99 each! My kids like trading so I got 3 each for them. They can trade them when we go tomorrow!

It's good to check throughout the year at the Disney store for clearance items and just save them.

I've been leery of Ebay. You pay shipping, and it's not always a good deal. Just watch out for the retail (some real collectors are willing to pay a bit more for collectibles like pins).

Good luck!

We bought our trader pins off of Ebay. I only buy the cast lanyard pins so I make sure they are legitimate pins.:goodvibes

I bought through the company at this link:
http://pinseller.com/disney-pins-trader-pack-25-disney-pins-1541.html

It went up $2 since I bought last Fall, when it was $75 for 25 pins. $3 each for genuine Disney pins was incredible! Everything was exactly as promised, communicaiton was good, and mailing was fast. Good price, good product, good service ... everything was just as I'd hoped.

With 2 little kids, it was great to leave for WDW knowing they each had 12 pins to begin trading (but they started trading at home with each other!) and we didn't need to start paying $6 or $8 or $10 for each pin to get them started. Of course, we bought one or two each, anyway, but it was great to have the bulk of it come as a result of trading.

GOOD LUCK!

Our family loves trading pins. We are NOT collectors, we just enjoy the fun of trading with CMs in the parks. We started with a trading lot from eBay. We each started out with 6 pins. One year was my DGDs birthday and a couple CMs traded 2/1. We also got free pins last year from the Eveready battery packages, and also got pins for taking a tour at WDW. We don't have official Disney lanyards, I bought ours from a company online that was practically giving them away! I just did a websearch for lanyards and looked for the best price. Each of us trades for a different theme on each trip. DD traded for Mickey the Wizard pins the first time. DGDs each chose Jessica Rabbit and Tinkerbell. I traded for "transportation" themed pins (planes, trains, skates, monorail...whatever). It's a FUN thing to do at WDW, even if you aren't interested in "collecting" pins. We each have 10 pins now and trade them each time for our next theme.

I just ordered pins from a seller on ebay and got a great deal. I got 20 pins for $40, so only $2 a pin. The pins arrived quickly and were fabulous! If your interested the seller I bought from was tradepinscheap.

I just got 2 pins in the mail that I bid on Ebay. It's a great place to start. Just watch the shipping charges. Alot of these people make up their cost in charging you alot for shipping.

I bought a grab bag of pins from www.pincastle.com before christmas and put them in everyones stockings. We all got some we liked and some we could trade. It was still kind of expensive once I calculated s&h and the exchange rate but it was cheaper than in the parks.
And my DS10 doesn't even care what he gets, he'll buy a pin and be trading it for something else within 15 mins.:)

We also buy pins on ebay for trading in the parks. We, however, are very careful to buy legitimate pins and stay far away from Sedesma pins. Cast members do not like to trade for them. I have seen some cast members tell guests that some of their pins were not real Disney pins. Reputable pin dealers usually will tell you that they do not sell Sedesma. We also stay away from overseas purchases because they are harder to track down if something goes wrong. We do love our pin trading though!
