Buying Into DVC

Well, my DH and I were on the Disney Cruise last week, and we went to the DVC meeting, and signed up, the paperwork is at my house ready to be signed. My DH and I are both very excited to join, but having a few last minute doubts, anyone want to cheer us on to go for it?

Take your time, read lots of posts here on the DVC boards, ask any questions you have and then sign and return your paperwork once you feel comfortable. I'm a cautious person so I spent about two months reading posts here before ever talking to a DVC guide. There is a lot of great info here that you will not hear from the guides (for instance, that you can purchase any DVC resort directly from Disney, not just SSR and AKV; that if you are buying more than the minimum number of points you should consider splitting your purchase into multiple contracts; that the Use Year you buy may make a difference, etc.). By the time we decided to purchase, I felt I knew exactly what I was buying and felt comfortable with the decision.

You could start by telling us which resort you are purchasing, how many points you are buying and any special incentives you were offered.

My husband and I also just did the DVC tour. We are looking at purchasing in the next year as next summer my oldest will be in school and we will have "found" money since we wont be paying daycare for her. I was told about the $8 at AK and $10 at SS resort credit but they made it sound like the only way we would get incentives like that is if we booked within 3 days of leaving the tour but it sounds like from this board that isnt the case. Not sure if buying through Disney or a resale is better? Also I am sort of holding out to see if the new DVC by the MK is real or not?

Just remember that when you think of "waiting", the price only goes higher. We "waited" for 4 years, and have kicked ourselves for the last 10 wishing we had purchased when we first learned about it. We have been members for 10years plus now, and it is one of the best purchases we have ever made!

We are getting AKV, 160 points. it seemed we got a few perks, but I'm assuming they offer them to everyone.

Hey nikkistevej,

I literally just got off the phone with DVC and both myself and my daughter are proud new owners of SSR, 200 points. The thought that I no longer have to worry about the price of the hotels going up and being able to afford staying at Disney is now over for us.

We love staying at the deluxes and their prices are getting to be a bit too much. With the villas, we can even save more money by making our meals if we choose (not me, I"m on VACATION!!).

Thanks everyone, I am going to get my DH to read this thread. We just got a box at home full of contracts, a free DVC bag, and all kinds of info about DVC- I know what we will be doing tonight!!
