Has anyone made a purchase on craigslist using ebay transaction? I was looking at a camper and they person emailed me back saying they would like an urgent transaction finalized through ebay. This is the second ad that has requested this so I am very suspicious it is a scam. Anyone?

The thing I wanted to mention is that if the purchase is through Ebay and you have issues you can always file a complaint with Ebay. Where as if you buy straight from CL its buy beware.

If they want it "urgent" makes it sound like a scam to me. We had nothing but scams which is why I no longer look on Craigslist or list.

We had the same situation with a car on Craig's list did some checking and it was a scam. Remember the old saying "if it's to good to be true it probably is"

I agree Urgent = scam. If they really wanted it urgently they would meet you and exchange the item for cash.

The camper should have a title, you arrive inspect then exchange the title (after verifying it is clean ie no bank lien holder on it) for cash.

Be very wary of transactions on Craigslist. It is rampant with scams, but we've also bought & sold on there with success. We listed a high quality dining table & had 2 responses almost immediately, which surprised me because the price we were asking. The first response was a buyer who called & wanted to purchase without coming to see the item & pay using Paypal on an account we would open. It seemed very wrong to us & others we asked, so we discontinued our communication with that person. The next one was similar to the first. We eventually sold to someone with cash in hand.

Both ads I have replied to seem like scams. One is being shipped over seas in the army so she need to sell it by March. The other claims she is a flight attendant and won't be home but needs to sell it by March. Both have offered to have an ebay transaction contingent upon inspection. They both claimed they will pay the shipping fees. If that isn't a scam I don't know what is! I feel bad for the people that fell for that:confused:

Unfortunately, I feel Craigslist has a lot of scams.
I know these are only 2 examples but...
I saw the used car scams (I just spent 2 months looking for a used car for ds and I saw the same "too good to be true" ads, just the car and email address was different but the emails all had the same provider...)
I have a coworker who was set to "rent" a condo because the "owner" was "in Africa on a mission" and she had to rent her condo out ASAP.

I don't think it was like this in the beginning, but it's sad these day. :sad2:

WARNING! ... WARNING! ... DANGER WILL ROBINSON!
1) Boy, does it.
2) Anyone in that big of a hurry will probably not be around.
3) Be around long enough for you to get your goods, that is.

Scam... why would that want to go through Ebay and pay unnecessary fees? They are using a stolen account and probably want a "deposit" through Paypal.

The rules of buying and selling on craigslist are very simple. The first person to show up in person with cash gets to buy it. Anything else is a scam. Don't accept ebay transactions (fake e-bay site by the way), don't accept money orders or paypal, and don't agree to ship anything or allow somebody else to come pick it up other than the buyer. Very hard to get scammed on craigslist if you follow that rule.
