I'm a local and only have 50 SSR points for 1 night studio stays as an "extra thing to do". I don't plan on having annual passes every year because of $$, but I find the resorts more enjoyable than theme parks. It's an easy way to get my theming fix. However, I'm honestly looking more forward to my St Thomas trip booked with my Wyndham and Marriott ownership (5 nights at the Margaritaville and 7 nights at Frenchman's cove) than I ever could feel with DVC. The theming is cute and conveniently next to me, but it pales in comparison to the real thing. Would I go on a 3+ hour flight to stay at the Poly when I could go to Ko Olina or Maui for the real thing?....NO!
I recently bought my DVC ownership and I'm honestly disappointed for how little you get for how much you pay. There website and member services are horrible compared to their competitors. I've never once had to wait more than 5 mins for Marriott or Wyndham. Also, their websites actually work. Both my Marriott and Wyndham ownership were under $2k all in and my DVC was $8k and it's not a "get what you pay for" type of deal. The Marriott resorts that I gain access to with my deed are much more enjoyable for me as an adult than any DVC resort. I only bought for the convenience of driving for 1 hour and being at a Poly or African themed resort, then drivng an hour home a day later.
