Buying DVC from an individual

Hi,
I am looking into to getting a DVC membership? Just returned from Disneyland last week and met with a represenative. Where Disney does not have any real incentives to buy at saratoga right now I was looking into the resale market. In speaking with the represenative he informed me about the new policy with resales but than told me that if you buy it from an individual and not a broker that you would have all the same benefits as the original member.

I hope this makes sense. If this is the case where would one even begin to look for a membership that is not through a broker?

If you buy a resale from either an individual or a broker, you do not get full tradeout benefits. You only get full benefits if you buy direct from Disney.

That can't be accurate - a resale is a resale is a resale...

That is what I thought. This guy also told me that if I bought saratoga through a resaler that I could not use my points at any of the WDW resorts. I was only allowed to use them at world point locations.

I called DVC and they told me that was incorrect and that I was able to use them at WDW resorts that are associated with the DVC.

When I called him back and told him this he was still telling me that I would not be able to.

You can use them at any of the DVC resorts. You cannot use them at non-DVC WDW resorts if you buy resale. So you could not use them at Grand Floridian, Port Orleans, etc. You could not use the points for a Disney Cruise. If you really want to buy SSR, I would go resale, it's less than half the price.

Sounds like a simple miscommunication to me.

If you buy resale, it makes no difference whether you buy through a broker or directly from an individual. You still have to submit the deal for ROFR review, and the benefits either way will be the same.

If you do buy through an individual, I'd use one of the Orlando closing companies who are very familiar with DVC. We've used Nancy Kirsch at Magic Vacation Title twice recently and she's excellent.
