Is there any advantage in buying directly from Disney? I am thinking about buying and would probably be using it every year during Easter. We love the Boardwalk. We will need a 1BR. It looks like The Timeshare Store have a big inventory of resale points. Are there any other place to buy from? Thanks.

We bought first from Disney, then a resale. There is no difference. Disney treats every owner the same.

We bought through the Timeshare store, but if you do a search for "DVC resales" you'll find other resellers or individuals. Also check out the classified ads at tug2.net, redweek.com (you'll have to pay a small membership fee to search), or myresortnetwork.com.

The advantage of buying through Disney is not having to go thru ROFR. But you're paying $92 a point for all resorts except SSR. You also do not pay closing. But depending on the number of points and the price, it's probably cheaper to go resale.

We bought resale through the Timeshare Store in 2003. And got a nice contract with banked points. They were very good to work with.

Some advantages of buying direct:
1. Ease of financing (Disney will finance the purchase for you)
2. Quick (Virtually no wait, in the system within a couple of days)
3. DVC pays closing costs
4. MN fees are pro-rated so you wouldn't have to pay a full year
5. Can pay by credit card!
6. There may be promotional deals that can make purchasing direct as cheap, or cheaper, than buying via resale.

Disadvantage of direct:
1. Might pay more per point.

Advantages of buying via resale:
1. Can get a smaller number of points
2. Can save some money per point
3. Contracts are negotiable (might be able to get seller to pay fees or closing)
4. Can buy at sold-out resorts that might not be available thru DVC direct (ex. BCV)
5. You might be able to find a contract that is fully loaded with all previous UY banked points, all current year points available, and all future year points coming.

Disadvantages of resale:
1. Must pass Disney's right of first refusal (ROFR)
2. Can take 6-8 weeks
3. You have to acquire your own financing (may or may not be better than DVC's)
4. You might find contracts that are stripped (no points until the next UY).
5. You might have to wait until the "right" contract comes up
