buying clothes ahead of time, before loosing the weight

Anyone ever do this? Last Sept-Nov I lost 15lbs and by the time I was ready for new shorts & bathing suit the winter clothes were brought out. Trying now to loose another 20lbs. Should I buy bathing suit & shorts ahead of time to give me incentive? How much smaller would you go if you wanted to loose 20lbs? 1size, 2sizes? Just get something thats snug for now?
 
I have to admit that I did this today. I bought 3 pair of capri pants one size smaller than I now wear. Hopefully this will give me added incentive to stay true to my diet. I even hope that next summer these pants will be too big.

Sure ! WHy not do that?? It does give you some incentive and you could probably get a real deal. When is your next trip and how much weight do you have to lose? Right now I wear a 22- I am looking for clothes in a size 16-18 to wear in January. I think that's very realistic. I think it depends on the person and how they shrink- and the amount of weight they have to lose, but I have a friend that lost over 100 lbs. once- she said about every 20 lbs she lost a size- so, basing on her info- I should be in that size around Jan. At least that's my goal. BUT I think if you have less to lose- sizes probably drop every 10 lbs or so- wouldn't you say that? oit's been so long since I've been ina smaller size I couldn't tell you!! But it won't be that way for long!
 
I have started doing that recently. I only recently started buying clothes smaller because my clothes were way way too big (wore them big even before I started losing weight- so losing made them freakishly huge on me LOL) but.... I also bought a dress recently that is not exactly my size- yet. Very tight and not how I would wear it at this point. But it was either that- or the size that does fit me now and then having it be too big soon- so I bought the smaller size and I'm using that as incentive. :)

I wouldn't buy a lot though- unless you were buying your goal size. Because you'd be surprised sometimes how fast you will end up unable to wear those (too big). As great as losing weight is- it's a bummer to buy new clothes and then a few weeks/month later everything is too big again. LOL
 

I made the mistake of replacing clothes as I went along; I think I only wore the size 12 pants twice before they were too big!

Fortunately, I had saved a couple of boxes of "need to lose 10 pounds" summer clothes...the earlier boxes were really "need to lose 20 pounds" ...so I had some things to wear. I've already passed through those sizes, however, so almost 100% of my clothes are new or altered.
