Buying at VWL?

We are currently looking at buying at wilderness lodge. We have a big family and want 500 points. My question is, we are currently making an offer on a package, so when will we close and be able to book a trip? We want to go in October but I'm afraid not much will be available by the time we can book. Also, may 2017 we want to take a large group and will need a 2 bedroom villa, and 2 studios. Will we be able to get this reservation at the 7 month booking window? I am concerned about how much the home resort matters. We want to be able to stay at bay lake tower often too. How soon does 2 bedrooms at BLT book? I have read many threads about this but I wanted to get some input. Let me know your experiences, current DVC members.

If all goes smoothly you are looking at 3-4 months before you would be closed and be set up in the system. October is a very very popular time for DVC and at best you might get SSR. Next best will be looking to pick up a reservation from a cancellation or piecing together nights at different resorts. At worst, it's a popular time and you may not be able to use your membership for that stay. If you are flexible in the dates and size of villas you can have better luck in finding something. For the stay next May you would still be in the home priority booking time when you close and will likely be able to book at VWL. Getting in to BLT will likely be very possible then too as May is not as busy as the last 3 months of the year.

That's a lot of rooms and BCV is unique in that there are different types of 2BRs. I wouldn't say impossible but it's not a booking I'd expect to get.

For the October trip you'll likely just have to wait and see if there's availability. If you still want to go you could book a cash backup that you could cancel if you do find availability.

If you care about where you stay then you should buy there.
VWL is currently under construction, DVC is adding a new VWL separate from the existing VWL, with new contracts.
Buying a couple of smaller contracts is usually better than one large one. Later if you want to sell some of your VWL and buy BLT you can.

could you buy 250 at BLT and 250 at WLV and bank and borrow alternate years at each resort? BCV would be hard to get at 7 months especially for that many rooms.
