I know sales are slow but does anybody know what’s going on with point rentals??? People are renting for $17 a point?? I haven’t rented that low in 5 years!

dvcrentalstore.com says members wanting to rent points is greater than demand from renters. so they have some listings with reduced pay out to members to "stimulate demand". They have a PVB next January for $14/pt. Who in their right mind would rent PVB 11 months in advance for that? I could see lower prices for in close rentals but they have many out in 7-11 month range. Something does not add up.

It seems we’re in for a bit of a reset. I just saw BLT points go for $13.
Maybe. But I've seen points go for $10 and $12 a couple years ago when someone had to use or lose Holding Points. All depends on the circumstances.

I still do not understand that if they have more members renting than requests for renting, then why are there open requests to rent points. They have lists of open requests which they have not filled and at present time they are all essentially outside the 7 month window. One needs the home resort to book. Most are BCV but they have PVB , GFV RIV, AKV for a discounted price outside 7 months. So the requests that they cannot fill, lowering the pay out to members will result in more members claiming the request?????

Not renting with these prices offered by dvcrental. I have rented 11 times on their site. A couple of weeks ago, I started noticing that anything in the 7 month range was reduced, and then it got lower, and lower. Went from 16 to 14, then 13, then 12. Then I noticed these offeringes started popping up on BLT, Riveria, VGF during premium bookings. I emailed to question why, but I haven't seen a reply yet. (opps! I see a voicemail. I'll call back tomorrow.)

Sadly, I started shopping for a new 3rd party. I really liked their friendly and professional service.

Besides "the market" could it be similar to the Airbnb issue where too many owners are buying just to rent their points for profit.? (not enough renters to use all the points)

I contacted them through chat and as told as above. Essentially more rental points available than renters. I'm not sure I believe that entirely. I noticed that there are 3 AKV listings offered discounted price that could have easily been filled by my AKV points that have been listed with them for several months. Apparently they do not want to pay the contracted price on the AKV points. If you go to the guests side , they are saying slashed prices to $22 for 7-11 months but have also slashed owners prices to $14-$12 if look at prices on the claim this list. From my experience they are not filling reservation that could be filled with available points, so that they can try to get owners to claim the reservation at discounted price and they still make their normal amount.

I see what you mentioned. It does state that "we've" slashed pricing for a limited time. When offering 6,4,3, and 2 dollar-a-point reductions, it seems that it was the renters that got slashed just as you stated. DVC Pros still offers the same 17 - 20 a point for renters, but I don't know anything about them yet. Hopefully, I can rent my extra points so I can pay my dues. That's all I try to do, get my 2-3 dvc stays per year and then rent to pay for the dues. It's the only way I can keep my vacation gifts to my family.

As with some people worried about the economy flooding the resale market, there could very likely be a large number of people who, while not ready to sell, are still wary of spending the associated non-lodging costs of a vacation right now, and are flooding the rental market with points they've decided to rent out. It makes sense.

Strange, because this is the opposite of renter demand, which is "last minute" because they don't plan as far out, because they are normal people.

I haven't actually done it, but I would be willing to rent as an owner on Facebook, using a non-reversible payment method. With pricing going crazy right now, I booked a spec rental for the holidays planning to do that. I think a lot of owners are going to be renting points out for the first time soon, with all the choices Disney is making lately.

To me it is not that rental prices may be lower due to more available points than renters but the way it is being handled by dvcrentalstore.com. Why not let the members that had points available on their site know that the price was being lowered? For me that means that the points I have listed on the site are not going to be matched to any request. Proved by the fact that 3 listings were being posted on the claim list at discounted price, that could have been filled by my points. The payout being reduced to $14 for premium and $12 for none premium and inside 7 months seem to have slashed renters payout but not theirs.
I have looked at the list to claim again this morning and all the AKV , PVB in 7-11 months listed for discounted price are not showing now. They are all gone overnight. Did someone happen to claim them all or something else happen?

At 17 dollars a point I will bank my points and do a huge rental or huge vacation the next years. I have always wanted to try a grand Villa .

I don’t need to fire sale anything.

That being said, you will always see people that have missed a banking window, had to cancel a trip, or what ever, and the are just trying to cover their dues. 10 or 12 dollars per point.
