How much is Disney charging for points at OKW? Do they charge closing fees? We're thinking of adding 25-50 points to our OKW (DH loved it our first trip down).
Currently $89 per point. No closing costs. 25 points is minimum add-on. 50 points is minimum if financing. You may need to go on a waitlist for your use year.
I just did two small add-ons with Disney. Contracts that small are rare and after closing costs can easily end up at or above $89 per point. I would call Timeshare Store and ask them what they think and to let you know when a small contract comes in. When I discussed what I wanted with them we both decided Disney direct was the best route.
So we did the waitlist. We got the exact number of points we wanted at OKW and BCV. Not a long wait (1 mth for OKW and 6 days for BCV) and I put the whole purchase on my Disney VISA!
I am also wondering how long 25-50 points would take to add on at OKW through Disney. Can a few people post how long it took them for a small contract to come through? Also, does it usually take longer at BWV?
Our use year is March. We only bought 100 points resale to start (DH thought that would be more than enough ). Now after our first trip he liked it so much he would like a few more points. I knew this would happen - but you can't tell them anything.
A use year is the month of the year when you get your annual allotment of points. It is important primarily for banking and borrowing deadlines. The general rule is to have a use year month just before the time of year when you most often travel to WDW. That way if you need to change plans you have considerable flexibility.
25-50 points can easily satisyfy someone. I needed just 32 points to have enough for two weeks in a one bedroom at OKW during the time of year we travel to OKW, so that is what I purchased. My original OKW contract was a resale so you get what is there. The add-on allowed me to increase add-on to the size contract I wanted.
Even by itself 55 points is sufficient for a one bedroom at BCV, VWL or BWV in Adventure season for an every other year five weeknight stay. You bank the points in the off year and have the 110 total points required.
You could tell both you are interested and see which one comes up first. You'll have to give Disney a deposit if you want to get on their list, but you can get it back if you change your mind.
FWIW, if you aren't in a hurry, I'd go with Disney - once they have something to sell you, the process is simpler. As already mentioned, since you want a small number of points, I doubt there will be much (if any) savings due to the closing costs. Depending on your use year, you might een be able For me, the resale process sounds like a bit of a hassle - I'd want to see quite a price difference to make it worth my while. JMHO. YMMV.
