Buying 2 contracts..? Home resort?

That last line there - which did you mean? BLT? I'm not in love with the decor/pool, but the walking to MK would be amazing & the plan would be to try for other resorts as we can. Can you book your home resort at 11m, and then at 7m try for something else & switch the res to that?

At a minimum purchase a resort that you won't mind staying at. So, if you believe you would like to move around as availability allows but you would be happy staying at SSR if you couldn't move then that could be a good place to buy because it has a lower buy in cost and lower dues. But if you'd hate to stay at SSR then you would likely have a better DVC experience if you looked at the next option for buy in/dues where you'd be happy to stay if you could change. For people that have always stay at one particular resort and won't be happy if they can't stay there then getting that one particular resort will be pretty important although if their favorite resort is always available at 7 months then buying the least expensive can still be a good choice.

I do think we'd like to avoid OKW & SSR bc we have no interest in staying at either of those mainly because of location. I also would prefer to avoid the 2042 exp resorts -- was considering VWL but with the early exp + I think I read that dues will prob go up there due to the renovations? Vgf is too pricey for us. So that leaves me mainly eyeing blt and akv. So the general consensus is to go w BLT, right?

Yes, BLT will have a higher intrinsic value than AKV, SSR, OKW and any of the other 2042 resorts. IMO extremely few new buyers know enough about their long term desires to know what home resort is best. For most that are new to DVC they are going to try different resorts and then figure out how they'll use DVC. For some that means they'll end up wanting a resort they need to own at and will have to add on or sell and rebuy. One of the mistakes I think many make is in trying to overthink the home resort and often overspending to get what they think is the best option or running away from a resort they don't think they'll like. I con't to think that SSR resale is the best choice for most new buyers and that it's FAR better to underbuy than overbuy in terms of number of points (assuming 150 or more) and home resort avoiding the most expensive options for an emotional purchase. There are many reports of SSR owners never staying there.

I understand. It makes sense that our preferences will likely change & that I'm most likely overthinking the home resort thing! Very very helpful, thanks!
