So DH and I really want to buy into DVC. We love staying deluxe and are hoping to do annual trips, so it seems like it's great for us. We've done a lot of research and I just can't decide, so I thought someone might want to help.

We will mainly want to stay at BCV so we thought we'd buy there, but then I hate to buy a contract with fewer years.

What do you guys think? Buy where you stay or the longer contract?

Thanks!!

How about splitting it? Search first for a small'ish BCV contract to use for your Oct visits (your anniversary and Food & Wine). Oct is a popular time for that resort and you will appreciate having "home resort advantage." Go for "added years" from another resort in your (eventual) add-ons.

You will not be able to stay at BCV every October unless you own there or have great luck. Its a very popular spot due to Food and Wine and a LOT of Epcot Resort owners (BWV and BCV) own specifically to book between October 1 and January 2. So are the extra 15 years worth risking not staying where you want to stay?

The conventional wisdom is "don't buy where you wouldn't be happy to stay."

If you wouldn't be happy staying at somewhere other than BCV, you should buy BCV. If you'd be perfectly happy to stay at, say, SSR, but would prefer BCV, then maybe SSR would be fine.

IMHO the length of contract tends to be over emphasized when it comes to the valuation of a timeshare purchase. While it does have value, it also provides you with an out from paying dues in perpetuity.
Yes, you will miss some years for taking your grandkids to the villas. However, you will not miss paying dues when it is time for retirement.
I say buy BCV and enjoy it for the next 30+ years at which time you can decide if you want to continue and purchase another resort. Also, you never know what opportunity Disney may extend to current owners in the future.

I am considering buying at both BCV (resale) and BLT (through Disney). For us the difference in years (2042 for BCV and 2060 for BLT) is not important to us since in 34 years we'll be in our 80s and in 50 years we'll probably be dead:laughing: . We don't have any children so we would probably leave the contract to my niece and nephews unless we sold it first.

If you are not commited to planning earlier to 7 months, it doesn't matter where you own. If you are a planner go with where you want to stay.

If you want to take an annual trip and stay in BCV, and you know you can plan within the home resort priority booking time, that's where I would buy.

Given the stated specifics, I would buy BCV. That's doubly true if you want a 2 BR/2Q room. Certainly if you are planning on buying more points than you'll use now for BCV, you could buy two resorts with less BCV points as noted above. If so, you might want to buy SSR resale then do an add on with BCV depending on the numbers involved. It's likely BCV will be able to be extended later. Still, if you bought somewhere else and planned ahead using the Wait LIst, you should be able to do OK for a good portion of your trips assuming you're not hitting the busiest DVC times like Dec, Presidents week and Easter.

Thanks everyone! I think we'll do BCV, now to find a contract and decide on the number of points!! YEAH!
