Buy where you love or buy more points?

Okay...I was under the impression buying direct I could only buy AK and BLT. Is that not true or when you talk about buying more at OKW are you talking about buying them resale? With the extended date at OKW does that mean DVC is selling more OKW? I agree that with their low point values it makes it a good alternative as a place where your 11 month window helps you get the grand villa.

Not true. You can buy any DVC resort direct from Disney on your initial purchase but you may be waitlisted a bit for those points on the earlier DVC resorts waiting for the points to be accumulated for your purchase ( OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV, HHI, VB, probably SSR as well ). Minimum point purchase required by Disney will apply on a direct purchase through them. You have to usually directly ASK the guide & may even need to firmly insist that you want to purchase one of these resorts but they are most definitely available to directly purchase from Disney for your first purchase.

You are probably better off shopping the resale market for one of the earlier DVC resorts however for a more attractive price than what Disney offers.

And you'd be able to purchase into DVC for less points than what Disney would require you to purchase on initial buy-in directly through them.

Once you are a DVC member you can do add-on contract(s) either directly through purchase with Disney; again at any DVC resort or via the resale market for any DVC resort.

Disney is only selling EXTENDED OKW contracts (2057 expiration) however on resale market both extended and unextended (2042 expiration) contracts may be available.

Good luck.

Oh Happy Day! I think I have finally made up my mind. I have to wait until Jan when DH takes the tour, but I think what we'll do is buy BCV resale first for 150 points and then do a 160 pt BLT add-on afterwards. Currently, there is no price difference for add-ons vs new members, but that may change (hopefully).

This will give me two great properties with excellent location to fine dining (DH loves to eat well) and walking distance to some of the parks. It will also give me enough points to go down at least twice a year, and sometimes three times if I don't stay in a 1bdrm villa all the time.

Now if only January would come. DH won't think of doing it without the tour and we live too far away from Disneyland that we can't really drive all the way down there just to look at the models.

Sounds like a plan; good for you :thumbsup2

You will surely find the perfect BCV resale for you & DH :goodvibes .

Also, just in case you weren't aware, if you are going to shop for the resale by using resale broker/agency you can call them and tell them what your are looking for
( resort, Use Year month, number of points, etc ) and often they will call you in order to give you first crack at a contract before they even put it out on their DVC listing. BCV tends to be popular on the resale market so you may want to inquire about doing this with the agencies/brokers you are considering.

Yes, I was thinking about doing that once I get DH through the tour. So my time line is late January do the tour, early February contact the two big Disney timeshare companies and see what they come up with. With any luck we should be through ROFR and closing by May and I can make my first booking for July taking whatever I can get, since it will be so late (luckily I just need a studio).

I can hardly wait!!!
